ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ har har charan ridai ur dhaare | I have enshrined the Lord’s Feet within my heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਫਲ ਹਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ simar suaamee satigur apunaa kaaraj safal hamaare |1| rahaau | Contemplating my Lord and Master, my True Guru, all my affairs have been resolved. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ pun daan poojaa paramesur har keerat tat beechaare | The merits of giving donations to charity and devotional worship come from the Kirtan of the Praises of the Transcendent Lord; this is the true essence of wisdom. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਅਤੁਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ gun gaavat atul sukh paaeaa tthaakur agam apaare |1| Singing the Praises of the unapproachable, infinite Lord and Master, I have found immeasurable peace. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮਿ ਅਪਨੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਬਾਹੁਰਿ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ jo jan paarabraham apane keene tin kaa baahur kachh na beechaare | The Supreme Lord God does not consider the merits and demerits of those humble beings whom He makes His own. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੰਠ ਮਝਾਰੇ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੩੦॥ naam ratan sun jap jap jeevaa har naanak kantth majhaare |2|11|30| Hearing, chanting and meditating on the jewel of the Naam, I live; Nanak wears the Lord as his necklace. ||2||11||30|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਹਉ ਕਹਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਧਮਾਈ ॥ khau kahaa apanee adhamaaee | What can I say about my base nature? - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਉਰਝਿਓ ਕਨਕ ਕਾਮਨੀ ਕੇ ਰਸ ਨਹ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aurajhio kanak kaamanee ke ras neh keerat prabh gaaee |1| rahaau | I am entangled in the love of gold and women, and I have not sung the Kirtan of God’s Praises. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਜਗ ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਚੁ ਜਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚ ਉਪਜਾਈ ॥ jag jhootthe kau saach jaan kai taa siau ruch upajaaee | I judge the false world to be true, and I have fallen in love with it. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਨਹੀ ਕਬਹੂ ਹੋਤ ਜੁ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ deen bandh simario nahee kabahoo hot ju sang sahaaee |1| I have never contemplated the friend of the poor, who shall be my companion and helper in the end. ||1|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈ ਨਿਸ ਦਿਨਿ ਛੁਟੀ ਨ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਕਾਈ ॥ magan rahio maaeaa mai nis din chhuttee na man kee kaaee | I remain intoxicated by Maya, night and day, and the filth of my mind will not depart. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਕਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਬ ਨਾਹਿ ਅਨਤ ਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥੩੧॥ keh naanak ab naeh anat gat bin har kee saranaaee |2|1|31| Says Nanak, now, without the Lord’s Sanctuary, I cannot find salvation in any other way. ||2||1||31|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

ਕੋਈ ਬੋਲੈ ਨਿਰਵਾ ਕੋਈ ਬੋਲੈ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ koee bolai niravaa koee bolai door | Some say that He is near, and others say that He is far away. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਜਲ ਕੀ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਚਰੈ ਖਜੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ jal kee maachhulee charai khajoor |1| We might just as well say that the fish climbs out of the water, up the tree. ||1|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਕਾਂਇ ਰੇ ਬਕਬਾਦੁ ਲਾਇਓ ॥ kaane re bakabaad laaeo | Why do you speak such nonsense? - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਛਪਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jin har paaeo tineh chhapaaeo |1| rahaau | One who has found the Lord, keeps quiet about it. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਬੇਦੁ ਬਖਾਨੈ ॥ panddit hoe kai bed bakhaanai | Those who become Pandits, religious scholars, recite the Vedas, - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਰਾਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੨॥੧॥ moorakh naamadeo raameh jaanai |2|1| but foolish Naam Dayv knows only the Lord. ||2||1|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਕਉਨ ਕੋ ਕਲੰਕੁ ਰਹਿਓ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਤ ਹੀ ॥ kaun ko kalank rahio raam naam let hee | Whose blemishes remain, when one chants the Lord’s Name? - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵਿਤ ਭਏ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਤ ਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ patit pavit bhe raam kehat hee |1| rahaau | Sinners become pure, chanting the Lord’s Name. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਤਗਿਆ ਆਈ ॥ raam sang naamadev jan kau pratagiaa aaee | With the Lord, servant Naam Dayv has come to have faith. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾੲਂੀ ॥੧॥ ekaadasee brat rahai kaahe kau teerath jaaenee |1| I have stopped fasting on the eleventh day of each month; why should I bother to go on pilgrimages to sacred shrines? ||1|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਭਨਤਿ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਭਏ ॥ bhanat naamadeo sukrit sumat bhe | Prays Naam Dayv, I have become a man of good deeds and good thoughts. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿ ਕੋ ਕੋ ਨ ਬੈਕੁੰਠਿ ਗਏ ॥੨॥੨॥ guramat raam keh ko ko na baikuntth ge |2|2| Chanting the Lord’s Name, under Guru’s Instructions, who has not gone to heaven? ||2||2|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਤੀਨਿ ਛੰਦੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਛੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ teen chhande khel aachhai |1| rahaau | Here is a verse with a three-fold play on words. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਕੁੰਭਾਰ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਹਾਂਡੀ ਆਛੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਸਾਂਡੀ ਗੋ ॥ kunbhaar ke ghar haanddee aachhai raajaa ke ghar saanddee go | In the potter’s home there are pots, and in the king’s home there are camels. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਬਾਮਨ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਰਾਂਡੀ ਆਛੈ ਰਾਂਡੀ ਸਾਂਡੀ ਹਾਂਡੀ ਗੋ ॥੧॥ baaman ke ghar raanddee aachhai raanddee saanddee haanddee go |1| In the Brahmin’s home there are widows. So here they are: haandee, saandee, raandee. ||1|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਬਾਣੀਏ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਹੀਂਗੁ ਆਛੈ ਭੈਸਰ ਮਾਥੈ ਸੀਂਗੁ ਗੋ ॥ baanee ke ghar heeng aachhai bhaisar maathai seeng go | In the home of the grocer there is asafoetida; on the forehead of the buffalo there are horns. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਦੇਵਲ ਮਧੇ ਲੀਗੁ ਆਛੈ ਲੀਗੁ ਸੀਗੁ ਹੀਗੁ ਗੋ ॥੨॥ deval madhe leeg aachhai leeg seeg heeg go |2| In the temple of Shiva there are lingams. So here they are: heeng, seeng, leeng. ||2|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਤੇਲੀ ਕੈ ਘਰ ਤੇਲੁ ਆਛੈ ਜੰਗਲ ਮਧੇ ਬੇਲ ਗੋ ॥ telee kai ghar tel aachhai jangal madhe bel go | In the house of the oil-presser there is oil; in the forest there are vines. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਮਾਲੀ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਕੇਲ ਆਛੈ ਕੇਲ ਬੇਲ ਤੇਲ ਗੋ ॥੩॥ maalee ke ghar kel aachhai kel bel tel go |3| In the gardener’s home there are bananas. So here they are: tayl, bayl, kayl. ||3|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਸੰਤਾਂ ਮਧੇ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਆਛੈ ਗੋਕਲ ਮਧੇ ਸਿਆਮ ਗੋ ॥ santaan madhe gobind aachhai gokal madhe siaam go | The Lord of the Universe, Govind, is within His Saints; Krishna, Shyaam, is in Gokal. - Bhagat Namdev Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਮਧੇ ਰਾਮੁ ਆਛੈ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਆਮ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੋ ॥੪॥੩॥ naame madhe raam aachhai raam siaam gobind go |4|3| The Lord, Raam, is in Naam Dayv. So here they are: Raam, Shyaam, Govind. ||4||3|| - Bhagat Namdev Ji
