ਅਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੋਰਿ ॥੨॥੫॥੯॥ abhai pad daan simaran suaamee ko prabh naanak bandhan chhor |2|5|9| Bless me with the gifts of the state of fearlessness, and meditative remembrance, Lord and Master; O Nanak, God is the Breaker of bonds. ||2||5||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੋ ਨੇਂਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kripaa sindh karunaa prabh dhaarahu har prem bhagat ko nenh |1| rahaau | O God, ocean of mercy, shower Your mercy on me, that I may yearn for loving devotional worship of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਸੂਖ ਚਕਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਹਤ ਅਨਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੇਂਹ ॥ anik sookh chakavee nahee chaahat anad pooran pekh denh | The chakvi duck does not desire many comforts, but it is filled with bliss upon seeing the dawn. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਉਪਾਵ ਨ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੀਨਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਮਰਨਾ ਤੇਂਹ ॥੧॥ aan upaav na jeevat meenaa bin jal maranaa tenh |1| The fish cannot survive any other way - without water, it dies. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਮ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣੀ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇਂਹ ॥ ham anaath naath har saranee apunee kripaa karenh | I am a helpless orphan - I seek Your Sanctuary, O My Lord and Master; please bless me with Your mercy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਰਾਧੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਕੇਂਹ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੦॥ charan kamal naanak aaraadhai tis bin aan na kenh |2|6|10| Nanak worships and adores the Lord’s lotus feet; without Him, there is no other at all. ||2||6||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੁਜਾਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kar kirapaa saadhoo sang bhette pooran purakh sujaan |1| rahaau | Bless me with Your mercy, and unite me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O perfect, all-knowing Lord God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਠਗਉਰੀ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਅਉ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ prem tthgauree jin kau paaee tin ras peeo bhaaree | Those, unto whom You give the intoxicating herb of Your Love, drink in the supreme sublime essence. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਵਨ ਹਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ taa kee keemat kehan na jaaee kudarat kavan hamaaree |1| I cannot describe their value; what power do I have? ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਲੜਿ ਦਾਸ ਜਨ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਉਧਰਨਹਾਰੇ ॥ laae le larr daas jan apune udhare udharanahaare | The Lord attaches His humble servants to the hem of His robe, and they swim across the world-ocean. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੧॥ prabh simar simar simar sukh paaeo naanak saran duaare |2|7|11| Meditating, meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, peace is obtained; Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of Your Door. ||2||7||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਉਧਰੁ ਦੇਹ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਚਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ audhar deh andh koop te laavahu apunee charanee |1| rahaau | Save me - lift my body up out of the deep, dark pit of the world, and attach me to Your feet. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ ॥ giaan dhiaan kichh karam na jaanaa naahin niramal karanee | I do not know anything about spiritual wisdom, meditation or karma, and my way of life is not clean and pure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੈ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਬਿਖਮ ਨਦੀ ਜਾਇ ਤਰਣੀ ॥੧॥ saadhasangat kai anchal laavahu bikham nadee jaae taranee |1| Please attach me to the hem of the robe of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; help me to cross over the terrible river. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਖ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਰਸ ਮੀਠੇ ਇਹ ਨਹੀ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਧਰਣੀ ॥ sukh sanpat maaeaa ras meetthe ih nahee man meh dharanee | Comforts, riches and the sweet pleasures of Maya - do not implant these within your mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਪਾਵਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗ ਆਭਰਣੀ ॥੨॥੮॥੧੨॥ har darasan tripat naanak daas paavat har naam rang aabharanee |2|8|12| Slave Nanak is satisfied and satiated by the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan; his only ornamentation is the love of the Lord’s Name. ||2||8||12|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਅਪਦਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਦਾਸ ਕੇ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ har jan kau apadaa nikatt na aavai pooran daas ke kaam |1| rahaau | Misfortune does not even approach the Lord’s humble servant; the works of His slave are perfectly fulfilled. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਧਾਮ ॥ kott bighan binaseh har sevaa nihachal govid dhaam | Millions of obstacles are removed, by serving the Lord, and one enters into the eternal dwelling of the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤ ਕਉ ਭਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਦਰੁ ਦੇਵਤ ਜਾਮ ॥੧॥ bhagavant bhagat kau bhau kichh naahee aadar devat jaam |1| The Lord’s devotee is very fortunate; he has absolutely no fear. Even the Messenger of Death pays homage to him. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਜਿ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਆਨ ਜੋ ਕਰਣੀ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਖਾਮ ॥ taj gopaal aan jo karanee soee soee binasat khaam | Forsaking the Lord of the world, he does other deeds, but these are temporary and transitory. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹ ਬਿਸਰਾਮ ॥੨॥੯॥੧੩॥ charan kamal hiradai gahu naanak sukh samooh bisaraam |2|9|13| Grasp the Lord’s lotus feet, and hold them in your heart, O Nanak; you shall obtain absolute peace and bliss. ||2||9||13|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਓ ਲਾਲਚ ਲਗਿ ਤਿਹ ਤਿਹ ਆਪੁ ਬੰਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jo jo karam keeo laalach lag tih tih aap bandhaaeo |1| rahaau | Whatever I do, while engaged in greed, only serves to bind me down. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਸਮਝ ਨ ਪਰੀ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਰਚਿਓ ਜਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਬਿਸਰਾਇਓ ॥ samajh na paree bikhai ras rachio jas har ko bisaraaeo | I have no understanding at all; I am engrossed in the pleasures of corruption, and I have forgotten the Praises of the Lord. - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਜਾਨਿਓ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਬਨੁ ਖੋਜਨ ਕਉ ਧਾਇਓ ॥੧॥ sang suaamee so jaanio naahin ban khojan kau dhaaeo |1| The Lord and Master is with me, but I do not know Him. Instead, I run into the forest, looking for Him. ||1|| - Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
