ਕੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਈਹਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ koee jaanai kavan eehaa jag meet | Does anyone know, who is our friend in this world? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jis hoe kripaal soee bidh boojhai taa kee niramal reet |1| rahaau | He alone understands this, whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy. Immaculate and unstained is his way of life. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ maat pitaa banitaa sut bandhap isatt meet ar bhaaee | Mother, father, spouse, children, relatives, lovers, friends and siblings meet, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ poorab janam ke mile sanjogee anteh ko na sahaaee |1| Having been associated in previous lives; but none of them will be your companion and support in the end. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮਾਲ ਕਨਿਕ ਲਾਲ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਰੰਜਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ mukat maal kanik laal heeraa man ranjan kee maaeaa | Pearl necklaces, gold, rubies and diamonds please the mind, but they are only Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਾ ਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ਅਵਧਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ haa haa karat bihaanee avadheh taa meh santokh na paaeaa |2| Possessing them, one passes his life in agony; he obtains no contentment from them. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਸਤਿ ਰਥ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਪਵਨ ਤੇਜ ਧਣੀ ਭੂਮਨ ਚਤੁਰਾਂਗਾ ॥ hasat rath asv pavan tej dhanee bhooman chaturaangaa | Elephants, chariots, horses as fast as the wind, wealth, land, and armies of four kinds - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲਿਓ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਛੂਐ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ਨਾਂਗਾ ॥੩॥ sang na chaalio in meh kachhooai aootth sidhaaeo naangaa |3|
- none of these will go with him; he must get up and depart, naked. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ har ke sant pria preetam prabh ke taa kai har har gaaeeai | The Lord’s Saints are the beloved lovers of God; sing of the Lord, Har, Har, with them. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧॥ naanak eehaa sukh aagai mukh aoojal sang santan kai paaeeai |4|1| O Nanak, in the Society of the Saints, you shall obtain peace in this world, and in the next world, your face shall be radiant and bright. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਬਿਸਮੁ ਭਈ ਮੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੁਨਤੇ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਸਹੀਅਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bisam bhee mai bahu bidh sunate kahahu suhaagan saheeo |1| rahaau | I am wonder-struck, hearing the many reports of Him; tell them to me, O my happy sister soul-brides. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋ ਕਹਤੋ ਸਭ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਕਹਤੋ ਸਭ ਮਹੀਅਉ ॥ ko kahato sabh baahar baahar ko kahato sabh maheeo | Some say that He is beyond the world - totally beyond it, while others say that He is totally within it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਰਨੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਚਿਹਨੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਸਾਤਿ ਬੁਝਹੀਅਉ ॥੧॥ baran na deesai chihan na lakheeai suhaagan saat bujhaheeo |1| His color cannot be seen, and His pattern cannot be discerned. O happy soul-brides, tell me the truth! ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਸੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਨਹੀ ਅਲਪਹੀਅਉ ॥ sarab nivaasee ghatt ghatt vaasee lep nahee alapaheeo | He is pervading everywhere, and He dwells in each and every heart; He is not stained - He is unstained. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹਤ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਗਾ ਸੰਤ ਰਸਨ ਕੋ ਬਸਹੀਅਉ ॥੨॥੧॥੨॥ naanak kehat sunahu re logaa sant rasan ko basaheeo |2|1|2| Says Nanak, listen, O people: He dwells upon the tongues of the Saints. ||2||1||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜੀਅ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਨੀਰਉ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ਨੀਰਉ ॥੧॥ jeea praan man tan sabh arpau neerau pekh prabh kau neerau |1| I dedicate my soul, my breath of life, my mind, body and everything to Him: I behold God near, very near. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਬਡ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਗਹੀਰਉ ਪੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੨॥ besumaar beant badd daataa maneh gaheerau pekh prabh kau |2| Beholding God, the inestimable, infinite and Great Giver, I cherish Him in my mind. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਉ ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਵਉ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਪੂਰਉ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੩॥ jo chaahau soee soee paavau aasaa manasaa poorau jap prabh kau |3| Whatever I wish for, I receive; my hopes and desires are fulfilled, meditating on God. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਦੂਖਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਝੂਰਉ ਬੁਝਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਉ ॥੪॥੨॥੩॥ gur prasaad naanak man vasiaa dookh na kabahoo jhoorau bujh prabh kau |4|2|3| By Guru’s Grace, God dwells in Nanak’s mind; he never suffers or grieves, having realized God. ||4||2||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨੀਕੇ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ghar ghar mangal gaavahu neeke ghatt ghatt tiseh baseraa |1| rahaau | In each and every home, sing the sublime songs of rejoicing; He abides in each and every heart. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਖਿ ਅਰਾਧਨੁ ਦੂਖਿ ਅਰਾਧਨੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰਾ ॥ sookh araadhan dookh araadhan bisarai na kaahoo beraa | In good times, worship and adore Him; in bad times, worship and adore Him; do not ever forget Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਰ ਉਜਾਰਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ naam japat kott soor ujaaraa binasai bharam andheraa |1| Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the light of millions of suns shines forth, and the darkness of doubt is dispelled. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਾਨਿ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਭਨੀ ਜਾਈ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਤੇਰਾ ॥ thaan thanantar sabhanee jaaee jo deesai so teraa | In all the spaces and interspaces, everywhere, whatever we see is Yours. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੨॥੩॥੪॥ santasang paavai jo naanak tis bahur na hoee hai feraa |2|3|4| One who finds the Society of the Saints, O Nanak, is not consigned to reincarnation again. ||2||3||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
