ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ dhanaasaree mahalaa 5 | Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਉਖੀ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਦੇਖਣ ਦੇਈ ਅਪਨਾ ਬਿਰਦੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥ aaukhee gharree na dekhan deee apanaa birad samaale | He does not let His devotees see the difficult times; this is His innate nature. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਾਥ ਦੇਇ ਰਾਖੈ ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥੧॥ haath dee raakhai apane kau saas saas pratipaale |1| Giving His hand, He protects His devotee; with each and every breath, He cherishes him. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੀਤੁ ॥ prabh siau laag rahio meraa cheet | My consciousness remains attached to God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਧੰਨੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aad ant prabh sadaa sahaaee dhan hamaaraa meet | rahaau | In the beginning, and in the end, God is always my helper and companion; blessed is my friend. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਬਿਲਾਸ ਭਏ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੇ ਅਚਰਜ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ man bilaas bhe saahib ke acharaj dekh baddaaee | My mind is delighted, gazing upon the marvellous, glorious greatness of the Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਆਨਦ ਕਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਾਈ ॥੨॥੧੫॥੪੬॥ har simar simar aanad kar naanak prabh pooran paij rakhaaee |2|15|46| Remembering, remembering the Lord in meditation, Nanak is in ecstasy; God, in His perfection, has protected and preserved his honor. ||2||15||46|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋਈ ਗਨਹੁ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥ jis kau bisarai praanapat daataa soee ganahu abhaagaa | One who forgets the Lord of life, the Great Giver - know that he is most unfortunate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਗਿਓ ਅਮਿਅ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਪਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ charan kamal jaa kaa man raagio amia sarovar paagaa |1| One whose mind is in love with the Lord’s lotus feet, obtains the pool of ambrosial nectar. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਜਾਗਾ ॥ teraa jan raam naam rang jaagaa | Your humble servant awakes in the Love of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਲਸੁ ਛੀਜਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aalas chheej geaa sabh tan te preetam siau man laagaa | rahaau | All laziness has departed from his body, and his mind is attached to the Beloved Lord. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਪੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਗਾ ॥ jeh jeh pekhau teh naaraaein sagal ghattaa meh taagaa | Wherever I look, the Lord is there; He is the string, upon which all hearts are strung. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਉਦਕੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਸਭਿ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਾ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੪੭॥ naam udak peevat jan naanak tiaage sabh anuraagaa |2|16|47| Drinking in the water of the Naam, servant Nanak has renounced all other loves. ||2||16||47|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਲੀ ਕਾਲ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਲਜਾ ਰਾਖੀ ਰਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kalee kaal mahaa bikhiaa meh lajaa raakhee raam |1| rahaau | In the utterly poisonous Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord preserves and protects his honor. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਮ ॥ simar simar suaamee prabh apunaa nikatt na aavai jaam | Remembering, remembering God, his Lord and Master in meditation, the Messenger of Death does not approach him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਧਾਮ ॥੧॥ mukat baikuntth saadh kee sangat jan paaeo har kaa dhaam |1| Liberation and heaven are found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; his humble servant finds the home of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਥਾਤੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਸੂਖ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ charan kamal har jan kee thaatee kott sookh bisraam | The Lord’s lotus feet are the treasure of His humble servant; in them, he finds millions of pleasures and comforts. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ਦਮੋਦਰ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਦਿਨ ਰੈਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ॥੨॥੧੭॥੪੮॥ gobind damodar simrau din rain naanak sad kurabaan |2|17|48| He remembers the Lord God in meditation, day and night; Nanak is forever a sacrifice to him. ||2||17||48|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਉ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sagal manorath pooran hoveh simrau tumaraa naam |1| rahaau | May all my desires be fulfilled, meditating on, and remembering Your Name, O Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਨ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਾਸਹਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਪਾਵਉ ॥ charan tumaare hiradai vaaseh santan kaa sang paavau | May Your feet abide within my heart, and may I find the Society of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਗ ਅਗਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ sog agan meh man na viaapai aatth pehar gun gaavau |1| May my mind not be afflicted by the fire of sorrow; may I sing Your Glorious Praises, twenty-four hours a day. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਵਸਤਿ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਮਧੵੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਪਣ ॥ svasat bivasathaa har kee sevaa madhayant prabh jaapan | May I serve the Lord in my childhood and youth, and meditate on God in my middle and old age. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਗਾ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਜਨਮ ਨ ਛਾਪਣ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੪੯॥ naanak rang lagaa paramesar baahurr janam na chhaapan |2|18|49| O Nanak, one who is imbued with the Love of the Transcendent Lord, is not reincarnated again to die. ||2||18||49|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਾਂਗਉ ਰਾਮ ਤੇ ਸਭਿ ਥੋਕ ॥ maangau raam te sabh thok | I beg only from the Lord for all things. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਜਾਚਤ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਮੋਖ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ maanukh kau jaachat sram paaeeai prabh kai simaran mokh |1| rahaau | I would hesitate to beg from other people. Remembering God in meditation, liberation is obtained. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘੋਖੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਘੋਖ ॥ ghokhe mun jan sinmrit puraanaan bed pukaareh ghokh | I have studied with the silent sages, and carefully read the Simritees, the Puraanas and the Vedas; they all proclaim that, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਦੋਵੈ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਲੋਕ ॥੧॥ kripaa sindh sev sach paaeeai dovai suhele lok |1| by serving the Lord, the ocean of mercy, Truth is obtained, and both this world and the next are embellished. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਅਚਾਰ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਫੋਕ ॥ aan achaar biauhaar hai jete bin har simaran fok | All other rituals and customs are useless, without remembering the Lord in meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਕਾਟੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੋਕ ॥੨॥੧੯॥੫੦॥ naanak janam maran bhai kaatte mil saadhoo binase sok |2|19|50| O Nanak, the fear of birth and death has been removed; meeting the Holy Saint, sorrow is dispelled. ||2||19||50|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਹਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mahaa santokh hovai gur bachanee prabh siau laagai pooran dhiaan |1| rahaau | Great peace and contentment come through the Guru’s Word, and one’s meditation is perfectly focused upon God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
