ਮਗਰ ਪਾਛੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਏਹੁ ਪਦਮੁ ਅਲੋਅ ॥੨॥ magar paachhai kachh na soojhai ehu padam aloa |2| But they cannot even see what is behind them. What a strange lotus pose this is! ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖਤ੍ਰੀਆ ਤ ਧਰਮੁ ਛੋਡਿਆ ਮਲੇਛ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਗਹੀ ॥ khatreea ta dharam chhoddiaa malechh bhaakhiaa gahee | The K’shatriyas have abandoned their religion, and have adopted a foreign language. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਇਕ ਵਰਨ ਹੋਈ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ॥੩॥ srisatt sabh ik varan hoee dharam kee gat rahee |3| The whole world has been reduced to the same social status; the state of righteousness and Dharma has been lost. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਸਟ ਸਾਜ ਸਾਜਿ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸੋਧਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸੁ ॥ asatt saaj saaj puraan sodheh kareh bed abhiaas | They analyze eight chapters of (Panini’s) grammar and the Puraanas. They study the Vedas, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੬॥੮॥ bin naam har ke mukat naahee kahai naanak daas |4|1|6|8| but without the Lord’s Name, no one is liberated; so says Nanak, the Lord’s slave. ||4||1||6||8|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗਗਨ ਮੈ ਥਾਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਚੰਦੁ ਦੀਪਕ ਬਨੇ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਜਨਕ ਮੋਤੀ ॥ gagan mai thaal rav chand deepak bane taarikaa manddal janak motee | In the bowl of the sky, the sun and moon are the lamps; the stars in the constellations are the pearls. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧੂਪੁ ਮਲਆਨਲੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਚਵਰੋ ਕਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਨਰਾਇ ਫੂਲੰਤ ਜੋਤੀ ॥੧॥ dhoop malaanalo pavan chavaro kare sagal banaraae foolant jotee |1| The fragrance of sandalwood is the incense, the wind is the fan, and all the vegetation are flowers in offering to You, O Luminous Lord. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੈਸੀ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਆਰਤੀ ॥ kaisee aaratee hoe bhav khanddanaa teree aaratee | What a beautiful lamp-lit worship service this is! O Destroyer of fear, this is Your Aartee, Your worship service. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਨਹਤਾ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਜੰਤ ਭੇਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ anahataa sabad vaajant bheree |1| rahaau | The sound current of the Shabad is the sounding of the temple drums. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਨੈਨ ਨਨ ਨੈਨ ਹੈ ਤੋਹਿ ਕਉ ਸਹਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਨਨਾ ਏਕ ਤੋਹੀ ॥ sehas tav nain nan nain hai tohi kau sehas moorat nanaa ek tohee | Thousands are Your eyes, and yet You have no eyes. Thousands are Your forms, and yet You have not even one form. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਹਸ ਪਦ ਬਿਮਲ ਨਨ ਏਕ ਪਦ ਗੰਧ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਸ ਤਵ ਗੰਧ ਇਵ ਚਲਤ ਮੋਹੀ ॥੨॥ sehas pad bimal nan ek pad gandh bin sehas tav gandh iv chalat mohee |2| Thousands are Your lotus feet, and yet You have no feet. Without a nose, thousands are Your noses. I am enchanted with Your play! ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਹੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ sabh meh jot jot hai soe | The Divine Light is within everyone; You are that Light. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਚਾਨਣਿ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ tis kai chaanan sabh meh chaanan hoe | Yours is that Light which shines within everyone. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur saakhee jot paragatt hoe | By the Guru’s Teachings, this Divine Light is revealed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ jo tis bhaavai su aaratee hoe |3| That which pleases the Lord is the true worship service. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਕਰੰਦ ਲੋਭਿਤ ਮਨੋ ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਆਹੀ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥ har charan kamal makarand lobhit mano anadino mohi aahee piaasaa | My soul is enticed by the honey-sweet lotus feet of the Lord; night and day, I thirst for them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਰਿੰਗ ਕਉ ਹੋਇ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੭॥੯॥ kripaa jal dehi naanak saaring kau hoe jaa te terai naam vaasaa |4|1|7|9| Bless Nanak, the thirsty song-bird, with the water of Your Mercy, that he may come to dwell in Your Name. ||4||1||7||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eihu dhan akhutt na nikhuttai na jaae | This wealth is inexhaustible. It shall never be exhausted, and it shall never be lost. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥ poorai satigur deea dikhaae | The Perfect True Guru has revealed it to me. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ apune satigur kau sad bal jaaee | I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੧॥ gur kirapaa te har man vasaaee |1| By Guru’s Grace, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ se dhanavant har naam liv laae | They alone are wealthy, who lovingly attune themselves to the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur poorai har dhan paragaasiaa har kirapaa te vasai man aae | rahaau | The Perfect Guru has revealed to me the Lord’s treasure; by the Lord’s Grace, it has come to abide in my mind. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਵਗੁਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ avagun kaatt gun ridai samaae | He is rid of his demerits, and his heart is permeated with merit and virtue. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ poore gur kai sehaj subhaae | By Guru’s Grace, he naturally dwells in celestial peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ poore gur kee saachee baanee | True is the Word of the Perfect Guru’s Bani. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਖ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੨॥ sukh man antar sehaj samaanee |2| They bring peace to the mind, and celestial peace is absorbed within. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੁ ਅਚਰਜੁ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ek acharaj jan dekhahu bhaaee | O my humble Siblings of Destiny, behold this strange and wonderful thing: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ dubidhaa maar har man vasaaee | duality is overcome, and the Lord dwells within his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਕੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ naam amolak na paaeaa jaae | The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless; it cannot be taken. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥ gur parasaad vasai man aae |3| By Guru’s Grace, it comes to abide in the mind. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਸੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥ sabh meh vasai prabh eko soe | He is the One God, abiding within all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ guramatee ghatt paragatt hoe | Through the Guru’s Teachings, He is revealed in the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ sahaje jin prabh jaan pachhaaniaa | One who intuitively knows and realizes God, - Guru Amardas Ji
