ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੪॥ haumai maar manasaa maneh samaanee gur kai sabad pachhaataa |4| Overcoming my egotism and quieting the desires within my mind, I have come to realize the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਚਿੰਤ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ achint kam kareh prabh tin ke jin har kaa naam piaaraa | God automatically does the work of those who love the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ gur parasaad sadaa man vasiaa sabh kaaj savaaranahaaraa | By Guru’s Grace, he ever dwells in their minds, and He resolves all their affairs. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੀਸ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਵਿਗੁਚੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ॥੫॥ onaa kee rees kare su viguchai jin har prabh hai rakhavaaraa |5| Whoever challenges them is destroyed; they have the Lord God as their Savior. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਈ ॥ bin satigur seve kinai na paaeaa manamukh bhauk mue bilalaaee | Without serving the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; the self-willed manmukhs die crying out in pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ aaveh jaaveh tthaur na paaveh dukh meh dukh samaaee | They come and go, and find no place of rest; in pain and suffering, they perish. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥ guramukh hovai su amrit peevai sahaje saach samaaee |6| But one who becomes Gurmukh drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, and is easily absorbed in the True Name. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਜੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥ bin satigur seve janam na chhoddai je anek karam karai adhikaaee | Without serving the True Guru, one cannot escape reincarnation, even by performing numerous rituals. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵੇਦ ਪੜਹਿ ਤੈ ਵਾਦ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ ved parreh tai vaad vakhaaneh bin har pat gavaaee | Those who read the Vedas, and argue and debate without the Lord, lose their honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਭਜਿ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੭॥ sachaa satigur saachee jis baanee bhaj chhootteh gur saranaaee |7| True is the True Guru, and True is the Word of His Bani; in the Guru’s Sanctuary, one is saved. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ॥ jin har man vasiaa se dar saache dar saachai sachiaaraa | Those whose minds are filled with the Lord are judged as true in the Court of the Lord; they are hailed as true in the True Court. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਹੋਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ onaa dee sobhaa jug jug hoee koe na mettanahaaraa | Their praises echo throughout the ages, and no one can erase them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥ naanak tin kai sad balihaarai jin har raakhiaa ur dhaaraa |8|1| Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts. ||8||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਿਗੁਣਿਆ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਇ ॥ niguniaa no aape bakhas le bhaaee satigur kee sevaa laae | He Himself forgives the worthless, O Siblings of Destiny; He commits them to the service of the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਊਤਮ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ satigur kee sevaa aootam hai bhaaee raam naam chit laae |1| Service to the True Guru is sublime, O Siblings of Destiny; through it, one’s consciousness is attached to the Lord’s Name. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ har jeeo aape bakhas milaae | The Dear Lord forgives, and unites with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਣਹੀਣ ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਲਏ ਰਲਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gunaheen ham aparaadhee bhaaee poorai satigur le ralaae | rahaau | I am a sinner, totally without virtue, O Siblings of Destiny; the Perfect True Guru has blended me. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਉਣ ਕਉਣ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਬਖਸਿਅਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ kaun kaun aparaadhee bakhasian piaare saachai sabad veechaar | So many, so many sinners have been forgiven, O beloved one, by contemplating the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੇੜੈ ਚਾੜਿ ॥੨॥ bhaujal paar utaarian bhaaee satigur berrai chaarr |2| They got on board the boat of the True Guru, who carried them across the terrifying world-ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੂਰੈ ਤੇ ਕੰਚਨ ਭਏ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ manoorai te kanchan bhe bhaaee gur paaras mel milaae | I have been transformed from rusty iron into gold, O Siblings of Destiny, united in Union with the Guru, the Philosopher’s Stone. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ aap chhodd naau man vasiaa bhaaee jotee jot milaae |3| Eliminating my self-conceit, the Name has come to dwell within my mind, O Siblings of Destiny; my light has merged in the Light. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਭਾਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ hau vaaree hau vaaranai bhaaee satigur kau sad balihaarai jaau | I am a sacrifice, I am a sacrifice, O Siblings of Destiny, I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੪॥ naam nidhaan jin ditaa bhaaee guramat sehaj samaau |4| He has given me the treasure of the Naam; O Siblings of Destiny, through the Guru’s Teachings, I am absorbed in celestial bliss. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਪੂਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ gur bin sehaj na aoopajai bhaaee poochhahu giaaneea jaae | Without the Guru, celestial peace is not produced, O Siblings of Destiny; go and ask the spiritual teachers about this. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੫॥ satigur kee sevaa sadaa kar bhaaee vichahu aap gavaae |5| Serve the True Guru forever, O Siblings of Destiny, and eradicate self-conceit from within. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਉ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਭਉ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ guramatee bhau aoopajai bhaaee bhau karanee sach saar | Under Guru’s Instruction, the Fear of God is produced, O Siblings of Destiny; true and excellent are the deeds done in the Fear of God. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੬॥ prem padaarath paaeeai bhaaee sach naam aadhaar |6| Then, one is blessed with the treasure of the Lord’s Love, O Siblings of Destiny, and the Support of the True Name. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ jo satigur seveh aapanaa bhaaee tin kai hau laagau paae | I fall at the feet of those who serve their True Guru, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਕੁਲੁ ਭੀ ਲਈ ਬਖਸਾਇ ॥੭॥ janam savaaree aapanaa bhaaee kul bhee lee bakhasaae |7| I have fulfilled my life, O Siblings of Destiny, and my family has been saved as well. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ sach baanee sach sabad hai bhaaee gur kirapaa te hoe | The True Word of the Guru’s Bani, and the True Word of the Shabad, O Siblings of Destiny, are obtained only by Guru’s Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੨॥ naanak naam har man vasai bhaaee tis bighan na laagai koe |8|2| O Nanak, with the Name of the Lord abiding in one’s mind, no obstacles stand in one’s way, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
