ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ bikh maaeaa chit mohiaa bhaaee chaturaaee pat khoe | The poisonous Maya has enticed the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny; through clever tricks, one loses his honor. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਚਿਤ ਮਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਮੋਇ ॥੨॥ chit meh tthaakur sach vasai bhaaee je gur giaan samoe |2| The True Lord and Master abides in the consciousness, O Siblings of Destiny, if the Guru’s spiritual wisdom permeates it. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਰੂੜੌ ਰੂੜੌ ਆਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਰੂੜੌ ਲਾਲ ਚਲੂਲੁ ॥ roorrau roorrau aakheeai bhaaee roorrau laal chalool | Beautiful, beautiful, the Lord is called, O Siblings of Destiny; beautiful, like the deep crimson color of the poppy. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਅਭੂਲੁ ॥੩॥ je man har siau bairaageeai bhaaee dar ghar saach abhool |3| If man loves the Lord with detachment, O Siblings of Destiny, he is judged to be true and infallible in the Lord’s court and home. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਾਤਾਲੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਤੂ ਭਾਈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਣ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ paataalee aakaas too bhaaee ghar ghar too gun giaan | You are pervading the realms of the underworld and the heavenly skies; Your wisdom and glories are in each and every heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਚੂਕਾ ਮਨਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ॥੪॥ gur miliai sukh paaeaa bhaaee chookaa manahu gumaan |4| Meeting with the Guru, one finds peace, O Siblings of Destiny, and pride is dispelled from the mind. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਲਿ ਮਲਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਾਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਭੀ ਮੈਲਾ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ jal mal kaaeaa maajeeai bhaaee bhee mailaa tan hoe | Scrubbing with water, the body can be cleaned, O Siblings of Destiny, but the body becomes dirty again. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗਿਆਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸਿ ਨਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ giaan mahaa ras naaeeai bhaaee man tan niramal hoe |5| Bathing in the supreme essence of spiritual wisdom, O Siblings of Destiny, the mind and body become pure. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵਾ ਪੂਜੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਆ ਦੇਹਿ ॥ devee devaa poojeeai bhaaee kiaa maagau kiaa dehi | Why worship gods and goddesses, O Siblings of Destiny? What can we ask of them? What can they give us? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਾਹਣੁ ਨੀਰਿ ਪਖਾਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਬੂਡਹਿ ਤੇਹਿ ॥੬॥ paahan neer pakhaaleeai bhaaee jal meh booddeh tehi |6| The stone gods are washed with water, O Siblings of Destiny, but they just sink in the water. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਜਗੁ ਬੂਡੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥ gur bin alakh na lakheeai bhaaee jag booddai pat khoe | Without the Guru, the unseen Lord cannot be seen, O Siblings of Destiny; the world is drowning, having lost its honor. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹਾਥਿ ਵਡਾਈਆ ਭਾਈ ਜੈ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੈ ਦੇਇ ॥੭॥ mere tthaakur haath vaddaaeea bhaaee jai bhaavai tai dee |7| Greatness is in the hands of my Lord and Master, O Siblings of Destiny; as He is pleased, He gives. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਈਅਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਮੀਠੁਲੀ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਇ ॥ beear bolai meetthulee bhaaee saach kahai pir bhaae | That soul-bride, who talks sweetly and speaks the Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬਿਰਹੈ ਬੇਧੀ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੀ ਭਾਈ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੮॥ birahai bedhee sach vasee bhaaee adhik rahee har naae |8| Pierced by His Love, she abides in Truth, O Siblings of Destiny, deeply imbued with the Lord’s Name. ||8|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥ sabh ko aakhai aapanaa bhaaee gur te bujhai sujaan | Everyone calls God his own, O Siblings of Destiny, but the all-knowing Lord is known only through the Guru. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜੋ ਬੀਧੇ ਸੇ ਊਬਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੯॥ jo beedhe se aoobare bhaaee sabad sachaa neesaan |9| Those who are pierced by His Love are saved, O Siblings of Destiny; they bear the Insignia of the True Word of the Shabad. ||9|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਈਧਨੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਕੇਲੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਰੰਚਕ ਪਾਇ ॥ eedhan adhik sakeleeai bhaaee paavak ranchak paae | A large pile of firewood, O Siblings of Destiny, will burn if a small fire is applied. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੪॥ khin pal naam ridai vasai bhaaee naanak milan subhaae |10|4| In the same way, if the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells in the heart for a moment, even for an instant, O Siblings of Destiny, then one meets the Lord with ease, O Nanak. ||10||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਭਗਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਰਖਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਧੁਰਿ ਤੂ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥ bhagataa dee sadaa too rakhadaa har jeeo dhur too rakhadaa aaeaa | You always preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Dear Lord; You have protected them from the very beginning of time. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦ ਜਨ ਤੁਧੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲਏ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥ prahilaad jan tudh raakh le har jeeo haranaakhas maar pachaaeaa | You protected Your servant Prahlaad, O Dear Lord, and annihilated Harnaakhash. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ guramukhaa no parateet hai har jeeo manamukh bharam bhulaaeaa |1| The Gurmukhs place their faith in the Dear Lord, but the self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਏਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ har jee eeh teree vaddiaaee | O Dear Lord, this is Your Glory. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੁ ਤੂ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bhagataa kee paij rakh too suaamee bhagat teree saranaaee | rahaau | You preserve the honor of Your devotees, O Lord Master; Your devotees seek Your Sanctuary. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤਾ ਨੋ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਨੇੜੈ ਜਾਈ ॥ bhagataa no jam johi na saakai kaal na nerrai jaaee | The Messenger of Death cannot touch Your devotees; death cannot even approach them. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕੇਵਲ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ keval raam naam man vasiaa naame hee mukat paaee | The Name of the Lord alone abides in their minds; through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they find liberation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਸਭ ਭਗਤਾ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ ridh sidh sabh bhagataa charanee laagee gur kai sehaj subhaaee |2| Wealth and all the spiritual powers of the Siddhis fall at the feet of the Lord’s devotees; they obtain peace and poise from the Guru. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ manamukhaa no parateet na aavee antar lobh suaau | The self-willed manmukhs have no faith; they are filled with greed and self-interest. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭੇਦਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਉ ॥ guramukh hiradai sabad na bhedio har naam na laagaa bhaau | They are not Gurmukh - they do not understand the Word of the Shabad in their hearts; they do not love the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕੂੜ ਕਪਟ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫੀਕਾ ਅਲਾਉ ॥੩॥ koorr kapatt paaj leh jaasee manamukh feekaa alaau |3| Their masks of falsehood and hypocrisy shall fall off; the self-willed manmukhs speak with insipid words. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਹੂ ਤੂ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ bhagataa vich aap varatadaa prabh jee bhagatee hoo too jaataa | You are pervading through Your devotees, O Dear God; through Your devotees, You are known. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ॥ maaeaa moh sabh lok hai teree too eko purakh bidhaataa | All the people are enticed by Maya; they are Yours, Lord - You alone are the Architect of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
