ਗੁਰੁ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਚੂਕਾ ਭੇਖੁ ॥੭॥ gur ankas jin naam drirraaeaa bhaaee man vasiaa chookaa bhekh |7| One who implants the Naam within himself, through the Guru’s halter - O Siblings of Destiny, the Lord dwells in his mind, and he is free of hypocrisy. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਹਾਟੁ ਸਰਾਫ ਕੋ ਭਾਈ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥ eihu tan haatt saraaf ko bhaaee vakhar naam apaar | This body is the jeweller’s shop, O Siblings of Destiny; the incomparable Naam is the merchandise. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਇਹੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ eihu vakhar vaapaaree so drirrai bhaaee gur sabad kare veechaar | The merchant secures this merchandise, O Siblings of Destiny, by contemplating the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਧਨੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥ dhan vaapaaree naanakaa bhaaee mel kare vaapaar |8|2| Blessed is the merchant, O Nanak, who meets the Guru, and engages in this trade. ||8||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨੑ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਤਰੇ ॥ jinaee satigur seviaa piaare tina ke saath tare | Those who serve the True Guru, O Beloved, their companions are saved as well. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਤਿਨੑਾ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਹਰੇ ॥ tinaa tthaak na paaeeai piaare amrit rasan hare | No one blocks their way, O Beloved, and the Lord’s Ambrosial Nectar is on their tongue. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਬੂਡੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਭੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ boodde bhaare bhai binaa piaare taare nadar kare |1| Without the Fear of God, they are so heavy that they sink and drown, O Beloved; but the Lord, casting His Glance of Grace, carries them across. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਭੀ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥ bhee toohai saalaahanaa piaare bhee teree saalaah | I ever praise You, O Beloved, I ever sing Your Praises. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਵਿਣੁ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਭੈ ਡੁਬੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਇ ਕਹਾਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ vin bohith bhai ddubeeai piaare kandhee paae kahaah |1| rahaau | Without the boat, one is drowned in the sea of fear, O Beloved; how can I reach the distant shore? ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ saalaahee saalaahanaa piaare doojaa avar na koe | I praise the Praiseworthy Lord, O Beloved; there is no other one to praise. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ mere prabh saalaahan se bhale piaare sabad rate rang hoe | Those who praise my God are good, O Beloved; they are imbued with the Word of the Shabad, and His Love. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਸੁ ਲੈ ਤਤੁ ਵਿਲੋਇ ॥੨॥ tis kee sangat je milai piaare ras lai tat viloe |2| If I join them, O Beloved, I can churn the essence and so find joy. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਸਾਚ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ pat paravaanaa saach kaa piaare naam sachaa neesaan | The gateway to honor is Truth, O Beloved; it bears the Insignia of the True Name of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਆਇਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ aaeaa likh lai jaavanaa piaare hukamee hukam pachhaan | We come into the world, and we depart, with our destiny written and pre-ordained, O Beloved; realize the Command of the Commander. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੩॥ gur bin hukam na boojheeai piaare saache saachaa taan |3| Without the Guru, this Command is not understood, O Beloved; True is the Power of the True Lord. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਿੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਉਦਰ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥ hukamai andar ninmiaa piaare hukamai udar majhaar | By His Command, we are conceived, O Beloved, and by His Command, we grow in the womb. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਊਧਉ ਸਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਰਿ ॥ hukamai andar jamiaa piaare aoodhau sir kai bhaar | By His Command, we are born, O Beloved, head-first, and upside-down. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਚਲੈ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੪॥ guramukh daragah jaaneeai piaare chalai kaaraj saar |4| The Gurmukh is honored in the Court of the Lord, O Beloved; he departs after resolving his affairs. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਦੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ hukamai andar aaeaa piaare hukame jaado jaae | By His Command, one comes into the world, O Beloved, and by His Will, he goes. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਬੰਨਿੑ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ hukame bana chalaaeeai piaare manamukh lahai sajaae | By His Will, some are bound and gagged and driven away, O Beloved; the self-willed manmukhs suffer their punishment. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥ hukame sabad pachhaaneeai piaare daragah paidhaa jaae |5| By His Command, the Word of the Shabad, is realized, O Beloved, and one goes to the Court of the Lord robed in honor. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਗਣਤ ਗਣਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੋਇ ॥ hukame ganat ganaaeeai piaare hukame haumai doe | By His Command, some accounts are accounted for, O Beloved; by His Command, some suffer in egotism and duality. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵੈ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥ hukame bhavai bhavaaeeai piaare avagan mutthee roe | By His Command, one wanders in reincarnation, O Beloved; deceived by sins and demerits, he cries out in his suffering. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥ hukam siyaapai saah kaa piaare sach milai vaddiaaee hoe |6| If he comes to realize the Command of the Lord’s Will, O Beloved, then he is blessed with Truth and Honor. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥ aakhan aaukhaa aakheeai piaare kiau suneeai sach naau | It is so difficult to speak it, O Beloved; how can we speak, and hear, the True Name? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਨੑੀ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਉ ਤਿਨੑ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ jinaee so saalaahiaa piaare hau tina balihaarai jaau | I am a sacrifice to those who praise the Lord, O Beloved. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੭॥ naau milai santokheean piaare nadaree mel milaau |7| I have obtained the Name, and I am satisfied, O Beloved; by His Grace, I am united in His Union. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਸਵਾਣੀ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ kaaeaa kaagad je theeai piaare man masavaanee dhaar | If my body were to become the paper, O Beloved, and my mind the inkpot; - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਲਲਤਾ ਲੇਖਣਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਲਿਖਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ lalataa lekhan sach kee piaare har gun likhahu veechaar | and if my tongue became the pen, O Beloved, I would write, and contemplate, the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਧਨੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਲਿਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥ dhan lekhaaree naanakaa piaare saach likhai ur dhaar |8|3| Blessed is that scribe, O Nanak, who writes the True Name, and enshrines it within his heart. ||8||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਦੁਤੁਕੀ ॥ soratth mahalaa 1 pahilaa dutukee | Sorat’h, First Mehl, Dho-Thukay: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਤੂ ਗੁਣਦਾਤੌ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ too gunadaatau niramalo bhaaee niramal naa man hoe | You are the Giver of virtue, O Immaculate Lord, but my mind is not immaculate, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੇ ਭਾਈ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਣੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ham aparaadhee niragune bhaaee tujh hee te gun soe |1| I am a worthless sinner, O Siblings of Destiny; virtue is obtained from You alone, Lord. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ॥ mere preetamaa too karataa kar vekh | O my Beloved Creator Lord, You create, and You behold. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹਉ ਪਾਪੀ ਪਾਖੰਡੀਆ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau paapee paakhanddeea bhaaee man tan naam visekh | rahaau | I am a hypocritical sinner, O Siblings of Destiny. Bless my mind and body with Your Name, O Lord. ||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
