ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ pooran paarabraham paramesur mere man sadaa dhiaaeeai |1| O my mind, meditate forever on the Perfect, Supreme Lord God, the Transcendent Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥ simarahu har har naam paraanee | Meditate in remembrance on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O mortal. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਸੈ ਕਾਚੀ ਦੇਹ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ binasai kaachee deh agiaanee | rahaau | Your frail body shall perish, you ignorant fool. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਰੁ ਸੁਪਨ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਵਡਾਈ ॥ mrig trisanaa ar supan manorath taa kee kachh na vaddaaee | Illusions and dream-objects possess nothing of greatness. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਸਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ raam bhajan bin kaam na aavas sang na kaahoo jaaee |2| Without meditating on the Lord, nothing succeeds, and nothing will go along with you. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਇ ਅਵਰਦਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਕੀਨਾ ॥ hau hau karat bihaae avaradaa jeea ko kaam na keenaa | Acting in egotism and pride, his life passes away, and he does nothing for his soul. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਾਵਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਿਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੀਨਾ ॥੩॥ dhaavat dhaavat neh tripataasiaa raam naam nahee cheenaa |3| Wandering and wandering all around, he is never satisfied; he does not remember the Name of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਦ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੋ ਅਸੰਖ ਖਤੇ ਕਰਿ ਫੇਰੇ ॥ saad bikaar bikhai ras maato asankh khate kar fere | Intoxicated with the taste of corruption, cruel pleasures and countless sins, he is consigned to the cycle of reincarnation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਾਹਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਕਾਟਹੁ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੨੨॥ naanak kee prabh paeh binantee kaattahu avagun mere |4|11|22| Nanak offers his prayer to God, to eradicate his demerits. ||4||11||22|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥ gun gaavahu pooran abinaasee kaam krodh bikh jaare | Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ mahaa bikham agan ko saagar saadhoo sang udhaare |1| You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥ poorai gur mettio bharam andheraa | The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bhaj prem bhagat prabh neraa | rahaau | Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥ har har naam nidhaan ras peea man tan rahe aghaaee | Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥ jat kat poor rahio paramesar kat aavai kat jaaee |2| The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤ ਬੇਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥ jap tap sanjam giaan tat betaa jis man vasai guopaalaa | One whose mind is filled with the Lord, is a person of meditation, penance, self-restraint and spiritual wisdom, and a knower of reality. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲਾ ॥੩॥ naam ratan jin guramukh paaeaa taa kee pooran ghaalaa |3| The Gurmukh obtains the jewel of the Naam; his efforts come to perfect fruition. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥ kal kales mitte dukh sagale kaattee jam kee faasaa | All his struggles, sufferings and pains are dispelled, and the noose of death is cut away from him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥ kahu naanak prabh kirapaa dhaaree man tan bhe bigaasaa |4|12|23| Says Nanak, God has extended His Mercy, and so his mind and body blossom forth. ||4||12||23|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਣ ਕਰਾਵਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥ karan karaavanahaar prabh daataa paarabraham prabh suaamee | God is the Doer, the Cause of causes, the Great Giver; God is the Supreme Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੀਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥ sagale jeea kee deaalaa so prabh antarajaamee |1| The Merciful Lord created all beings; God is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥ meraa gur hoaa aap sahaaee | My Guru is Himself my friend and support. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸ ਅਚਰਜ ਭਈ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sookh sehaj aanand mangal ras acharaj bhee baddaaee | rahaau | I am in celestial peace, bliss, joy, pleasure and wondrous glory. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਏ ਭੈ ਨਾਸੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੇ ॥ gur kee saran pe bhai naase saachee daragah maane | Seeking the Sanctuary of the Guru, my fears have been dispelled, and I am accepted in the Court of the True Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਏ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਥਾਨੇ ॥੨॥ gun gaavat aaraadh naam har aae apunai thaane |2| Singing His Glorious Praises, and worshipping in adoration the Name of the Lord, I have reached my destination. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਭ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ jai jai kaar karai sabh usatat sangat saadh piaaree | Everyone applauds and congratulates me; the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is dear to me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ sad balihaar jaau prabh apune jin pooran paij savaaree |3| I am forever a sacrifice to my God, who has totally protected and preserved my honor. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਸਟਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ gosatt giaan naam sun udhare jin jin darasan paaeaa | They are saved, who receive the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; they listen to the spiritual dialogue of the Naam. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਅਨਦ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥ bheo kripaal naanak prabh apunaa anad setee ghar aaeaa |4|13|24| Nanak’s God has become Merciful to him; he has arrived home in ecstasy. ||4||13||24|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਲਾਥੇ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ prabh kee saran sagal bhai laathe dukh binase sukh paaeaa | In God’s Sanctuary, all fears depart, suffering disappears, and peace is obtained. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ deaal hoaa paarabraham suaamee pooraa satigur dhiaaeaa |1| When the Supreme Lord God and Master becomes merciful, we meditate on the Perfect True Guru. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ kar kirapaa prabh deen deaalaa gun gaavau rang raataa | rahaau | By Your Mercy, O God, Merciful to the meek, imbue me with Your Love, that I might sing Your Glorious Praises. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ satigur naam nidhaan drirraaeaa chintaa sagal binaasee | The True Guru has implanted the treasure of the Naam within me, and all my anxieties have been dispelled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
