ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ॥੪॥੫॥ naanak kau gur pooraa bhettio sagale dookh binaase |4|5| Nanak has met with the Perfect Guru; all his sorrows have been dispelled. ||4||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸੁਖੀਏ ਕਉ ਪੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਰੋਗੀ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਭ ਰੋਗੀ ॥ sukhee kau pekhai sabh sukheea rogee kai bhaanai sabh rogee | To the happy person, everyone seems happy; to the sick person, everyone seems sick. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਣ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪਨ ਹਾਥਿ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ॥੧॥ karan karaavanahaar suaamee aapan haath sanjogee |1| The Lord and Master acts, and causes us to act; union is in His Hands. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਤਾ ॥ man mere jin apunaa bharam gavaataa | O my mind, no one appears to be mistaken, to one who has dispelled his own doubts; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ tis kai bhaanai koe na bhoolaa jin sagalo braham pachhaataa | rahaau | He realizes that everyone is God. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਗਲੀ ਠਾਂਢੀ ॥ sant sang jaa kaa man seetal ohu jaanai sagalee tthaandtee | One whose mind is comforted in the Society of the Saints, believes that all are joyful. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਆਪਿਤ ਓਹੁ ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੀ ॥੨॥ haumai rog jaa kaa man biaapit ohu janam marai bilalaatee |2| One whose mind is afflicted by the disease of egotism, cries out in birth and death. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਪੜਿਆ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਰਬ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ giaan anjan jaa kee netree parriaa taa kau sarab pragaasaa | Everything is clear to one whose eyes are blessed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਅੰਧੇਰੈ ਸੂਝਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਭਰਮਾਤਾ ॥੩॥ agiaan andherai soojhas naahee bahurr bahurr bharamaataa |3| In the darkness of spiritual ignorance, he sees nothing at all; he wanders around in reincarnation, over and over again. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਇਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਮਾਗੈ ॥ sun benantee suaamee apune naanak ihu sukh maagai | Hear my prayer, O Lord and Master; Nanak begs for this happiness: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਾਧੂ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਤਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੪॥੬॥ jeh keeratan teraa saadhoo gaaveh teh meraa man laagai |4|6| whereever Your Holy Saints sing the Kirtan of Your Praises, let my mind be attached to that place. ||4||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਤਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ॥ tan santan kaa dhan santan kaa man santan kaa keea | My body belongs to the Saints, my wealth belongs to the Saints, and my mind belongs to the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਰਬ ਕੁਸਲ ਤਬ ਥੀਆ ॥੧॥ sant prasaad har naam dhiaaeaa sarab kusal tab theea |1| By the Grace of the Saints, I meditate on the Lord’s Name, and then, all comforts come to me. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਬੀਆ ॥ santan bin avar na daataa beea | Without the Saints, there are no other givers. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੈ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਗਰਾਮੀ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jo jo saran parai saadhoo kee so paaragaraamee keea | rahaau | Whoever takes to the Sanctuary of the Holy Saints, is carried across. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਰਸਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ kott paraadh mitteh jan sevaa har keeratan ras gaaeeai | Millions of sins are erased by serving the humble Saints, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord with love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਜਨ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ eehaa sukh aagai mukh aoojal jan kaa sang vaddabhaagee paaeeai |2| One finds peace in this world, and one’s face is radiant in the next world, by associating with the humble Saints, through great good fortune. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਏਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਗੁਣ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ rasanaa ek anek gun pooran jan kee ketak upamaa kaheeai | I have only one tongue, and the Lord’s humble servant is filled with countless virtues; how can I sing his praises? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਸਦ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਲਹੀਐ ॥੩॥ agam agochar sad abinaasee saran santan kee laheeai |3| The inaccessible, unapproachable and eternally unchanging Lord is obtained in the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਨੀਚ ਅਨਾਥ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਓਟ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਆਹੀ ॥ niragun neech anaath aparaadhee ott santan kee aahee | I am worthless, lowly, without friends or support, and full of sins; I long for the Shelter of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੂਡਤ ਮੋਹ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਿਬਾਹੀ ॥੪॥੭॥ booddat moh grih andh koop meh naanak lehu nibaahee |4|7| I am drowning in the deep, dark pit of household attachments - please save me, Lord! ||4||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਤੂ ਕਰਤੇ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤੈਂ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਈ ॥ jaa kai hiradai vasiaa too karate taa kee tain aas pujaaee | O Creator Lord, You fulfill the desires of those, within whose heart You abide. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਤੂ ਵਿਸਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਰਣ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ daas apune kau too visareh naahee charan dhoor man bhaaee |1| Your slaves do not forget You; the dust of Your feet is pleasing to their minds. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੇਰੀ ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ teree akath kathaa kathan na jaaee | Your Unspoken Speech cannot be spoken. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gun nidhaan sukhadaate suaamee sabh te aooch baddaaee | rahaau | O treasure of excellence, Giver of peace, Lord and Master, Your greatness is the highest of all. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਸੋ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜੈਸੀ ਤੁਮ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ so so karam karat hai praanee jaisee tum likh paaee | The mortal does those deeds, and those alone, which You ordained by destiny. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀਨੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥੨॥ sevak kau tum sevaa deenee darasan dekh aghaaee |2| Your servant, whom You bless with Your service, is satisfied and fulfilled, beholding the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ sarab nirantar tumeh samaane jaa kau tudh aap bujhaaee | You are contained in all, but he alone realizes this, whom You bless with understanding. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ॥੩॥ gur parasaad mittio agiaanaa pragatt bhe sabh tthaaee |3| By Guru’s Grace, his spiritual ignorance is dispelled, and he is respected everywhere. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਈ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥ soee giaanee soee dhiaanee soee purakh subhaaee | He alone is spiritually enlightened, he alone is a meditator, and he alone is a man of good nature. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥ kahu naanak jis bhe deaalaa taa kau man te bisar na jaaee |4|8| Says Nanak, one unto whom the Lord becomes Merciful, does not forget the Lord from his mind. ||4||8|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੀ ਕਬ ਊਚੇ ਕਬ ਨੀਚੇ ॥ sagal samagree mohi viaapee kab aooche kab neeche | The whole creation is engrossed in emotional attachment; sometimes, one is high, and at other times, low. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਤਨਾ ਓੜਕਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੇ ॥੧॥ sudh na hoeeai kaahoo jatanaa orrak ko na pahooche |1| No one can be purified by any rituals or devices; they cannot reach their goal. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
