ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੩॥ vaddabhaagee gur paaeaa bhaaee har har naam dhiaae |3| By great good fortune, I found the Guru, O Siblings of Destiny, and I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੋਇ ॥ sach sadaa hai niramalaa bhaaee niramal saache soe | The Truth is forever pure, O Siblings of Destiny; those who are true are pure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ nadar kare jis aapanee bhaaee tis paraapat hoe | When the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace, O Siblings of Destiny, then one obtains Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਕੋਇ ॥ kott madhe jan paaeeai bhaaee viralaa koee koe | Among millions, O Siblings of Destiny, hardly one humble servant of the Lord is found. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤਾ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥ naanak rataa sach naam bhaaee sun man tan niramal hoe |4|2| Nanak is imbued with the True Name, O Siblings of Destiny; hearing it, the mind and body become immaculately pure. ||4||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ ॥ soratth mahalaa 5 dutuke | Sorat’h, Fifth Mehl, Dho-Thukay: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਲਉ ਭਾਉ ਅਭਾਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਦੂਰਾਈ ॥ jau lau bhaau abhaau ihu maanai tau lau milan dooraaee | As long as this person believes in love and hate, it is difficult for him to meet the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ਤਉ ਲਉ ਬੀਚੁ ਬਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ aan aapanaa karat beechaaraa tau lau beech bikhaaee |1| As long as he discriminates between himself and others, he will distance himself from the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਧਵੇ ਐਸੀ ਦੇਹੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ maadhave aisee dehu bujhaaee | O Lord, grant me such understanding, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਉ ਸਾਧ ਗਹਉ ਓਟ ਚਰਨਾ ਨਹ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sevau saadh ghau ott charanaa neh bisarai muhat chasaaee | rahaau | that I might serve the Holy Saints, and seek the protection of their feet, and not forget them, for a moment, even an instant. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਮੁਗਧ ਅਚੇਤ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਤੁਮ ਐਸੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਆਈ ॥ re man mugadh achet chanchal chit tum aisee ridai na aaee | O foolish, thoughtless and fickle mind, such understanding did not come into your heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਾਨਪਤਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਆਨ ਤੂ ਰਚਿਆ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਸੰਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਈ ॥੨॥ praanapat tiaag aan too rachiaa urajhio sang bairaaee |2| Renouncing the Lord of Life, you have become engrossed in other things, and you are involved with your enemies. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਗੁ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਥਾਪੈ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ sog na biaapai aap na thaapai saadhasangat budh paaee | Sorrow does not afflict one who does not harbor self-conceit; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have attained this understanding. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾ ਬਕਨਾ ਇਉ ਜਾਨਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਵਨੁ ਝੁਲਾਈ ॥੩॥ saakat kaa bakanaa iau jaanau jaise pavan jhulaaee |3| Know that the babbling of the faithless cynic is like wind passing by. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਪਰਾਧ ਅਛਾਦਿਓ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ kott paraadh achhaadio ihu man kahanaa kachhoo na jaaee | This mind is inundated by millions of sins - what can I say? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਭੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਠਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥ jan naanak deen saran aaeo prabh sabh lekhaa rakhahu utthaaee |4|3| Nanak, Your humble servant has come to Your Sanctuary, God; please, erase all his accounts. ||4||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਲੋਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਨਬੰਧੇਹੀ ॥ putr kalatr lok grih banitaa maaeaa sanabandhehee | Children, spouses, men and women in one’s household, are all bound by Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਕੋ ਖਰਾ ਨ ਹੋਸੀ ਸਭ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਅਸਨੇਹੀ ॥੧॥ ant kee baar ko kharaa na hosee sabh mithiaa asanehee |1| At the very last moment, none of them shall stand by you; their love is totally false. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੇ ਨਰ ਕਾਹੇ ਪਪੋਰਹੁ ਦੇਹੀ ॥ re nar kaahe paporahu dehee | O man, why do you pamper your body so? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਡਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਧੂਮੁ ਬਾਦਰੋ ਇਕੁ ਭਾਜਹੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਨੇਹੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aoodd jaaeigo dhoom baadaro ik bhaajahu raam sanehee | rahaau | It shall disperse like a cloud of smoke; vibrate upon the One, the Beloved Lord. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੀਨਿ ਸੰਙਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਜਲ ਕੂਕਰ ਭਸਮੇਹੀ ॥ teen sangiaa kar dehee keenee jal kookar bhasamehee | There are three ways in which the body can be consumed - it can be thrown into water, given to the dogs, or cremated to ashes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੋਇ ਆਮਰੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਬੈਠਾ ਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਣ ਬਿਸਰੋਹੀ ॥੨॥ hoe aamaro grih meh baitthaa karan kaaran bisarohee |2| He considers himself to be immortal; he sits in his home, and forgets the Lord, the Cause of causes. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਣੀਏ ਸਾਜੇ ਕਾਚੈ ਤਾਗਿ ਪਰੋਹੀ ॥ anik bhaat kar manee saaje kaachai taag parohee | In various ways, the Lord has fashioned the beads, and strung them on a slender thread. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤੂਟਿ ਜਾਇਗੋ ਸੂਤੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤੋਹੀ ॥੩॥ toott jaaeigo soot baapure fir paachhai pachhutohee |3| The thread shall break, O wretched man, and then, you shall repent and regret. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਤੁਮ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨੇਹੀ ॥ jin tum siraje siraj savaare tis dhiaavahu din rainehee | He created you, and after creating you, He adorned you - meditate on Him day and night. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਓਟ ਗਹੇਹੀ ॥੪॥੪॥ jan naanak prabh kirapaa dhaaree mai satigur ott gahehee |4|4| God has showered His Mercy upon servant Nanak; I hold tight to the Support of the True Guru. ||4||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ gur pooraa bhettio vaddabhaagee maneh bheaa paragaasaa | I met the True Guru, by great good fortune, and my mind has been enlightened. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਹੁਚਨਹਾਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ koe na pahuchanahaaraa doojaa apune saahib kaa bharavaasaa |1| No one else can equal me, because I have the loving support of my Lord and Master. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ॥ apune satigur kai balihaarai | I am a sacrifice to my True Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਗੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aagai sukh paachhai sukh sahajaa ghar aanand hamaarai | rahaau | I am at peace in this world, and I shall be in celestial peace in the next; my home is filled with bliss. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ਸੋਈ ਖਸਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥ antarajaamee karanaihaaraa soee khasam hamaaraa | He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Creator, my Lord and Master. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਇਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ nirbhau bhe gur charanee laage ik raam naam aadhaaraa |2| I have become fearless, attached to the Guru’s feet; I take the Support of the Name of the One Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ safal darasan akaal moorat prabh hai bhee hovanahaaraa | Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; the Form of God is deathless; He is and shall always be. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੇ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥ kantth lagaae apune jan raakhe apunee preet piaaraa |3| He hugs His humble servants close, and protects and preserves them; their love for Him is sweet to Him. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਅਚਰਜ ਸੋਭਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਸੇ ॥ vaddee vaddiaaee acharaj sobhaa kaaraj aaeaa raase | Great is His glorious greatness, and wondrous is His magnificence; through Him, all affairs are resolved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
