ਰਤਨੁ ਲੁਕਾਇਆ ਲੂਕੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਰਖੈ ਲੁਕਾਈ ॥੪॥ ratan lukaaeaa lookai naahee je ko rakhai lukaaee |4| The jewel is concealed, but it is not concealed, even though one may try to conceal it. ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਤੂ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ sabh kichh teraa too antarajaamee too sabhanaa kaa prabh soee | Everything is Yours, O Inner-knower, Searcher of hearts; You are the Lord God of all. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੫॥੯॥ jis no daat kareh so paae jan naanak avar na koee |5|9| He alone receives the gift, unto whom You give it; O servant Nanak, there is no one else. ||5||9|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਜਾਚੀ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਰਾਧੀ ਜਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਸੀ ॥ kis hau jaachee kis aaraadhee jaa sabh ko keetaa hosee | Who should I ask? Who should I worship? All were created by Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਵਡਾ ਵਡੇਰਾ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਖਾਕੂ ਰਲਸੀ ॥ jo jo deesai vaddaa vadderaa so so khaakoo ralasee | Whoever appears to be the greatest of the great, shall ultimately be mixed with the dust. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਭਵ ਖੰਡਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੇਸੀ ॥੧॥ nirbhau nirankaar bhav khanddan sabh sukh nav nidh desee |1| The Fearless, Formless Lord, the Destroyer of Fear bestows all comforts, and the nine treasures. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤੀ ਰਾਜਾ ॥ har jeeo teree daatee raajaa | O Dear Lord, Your gifts alone satisfy me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਣਸੁ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਮੁਹਤਾਜਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ maanas bapurraa kiaa saalaahee kiaa tis kaa muhataajaa | rahaau | Why should I praise the poor helpless man? Why should I feel subservient to him? ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਭੂਖ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ jin har dhiaaeaa sabh kichh tis kaa tis kee bhookh gavaaee | All things come to one who meditates on the Lord; the Lord satisfies his hunger. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਧਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੈ ਨਿਖੁਟਿ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਈ ॥ aisaa dhan deea sukhadaatai nikhutt na kab hee jaaee | The Lord, the Giver of peace, bestows such wealth, that it can never be exhausted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੨॥ anad bheaa sukh sehaj samaane satigur mel milaaee |2| I am in ecstasy, absorbed in celestial peace; the True Guru has united me in His Union. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ man naam jap naam aaraadh anadin naam vakhaanee | O mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord; worship the Naam, night and day, and recite the Naam. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਤਨ ਕਾ ਸਭ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਣਿ ਜਮਾਣੀ ॥ aupades sun saadh santan kaa sabh chookee kaan jamaanee | Listen to the Teachings of the Holy Saints, and all fear of death will be dispelled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੇ ਲਾਗੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥ jin kau kripaal hoaa prabh meraa se laage gur kee baanee |3| Those blessed by God’s Grace are attached to the Word of the Guru’s Bani. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣੁ ਕਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ keemat kaun karai prabh teree too sarab jeea deaalaa | Who can estimate Your worth, God? You are kind and compassionate to all beings. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਿਆ ਹਮ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥ sabh kichh keetaa teraa varatai kiaa ham baal gupaalaa | Everything which You do, prevails; I am just a poor child - what can I do? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਨੁ ਤੁਮਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਪਿਤਾ ਪੂਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥੪॥੧॥ raakh lehu naanak jan tumaraa jiau pitaa poot kirapaalaa |4|1| Protect and preserve Your servant Nanak; be kind to him, like a father to his son. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਧਾਰ ॥ gur govind salaaheeai bhaaee man tan hiradai dhaar | Praise the Guru, and the Lord of the Universe, O Siblings of Destiny; enshrine Him in your mind, body and heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਹਾ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰ ॥ saachaa saahib man vasai bhaaee ehaa karanee saar | Let the True Lord and Master abide in your mind, O Siblings of Destiny; this is the most excellent way of life. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਊਪਜੈ ਭਾਈ ਸੇ ਤਨ ਹੋਏ ਛਾਰ ॥ jit tan naam na aoopajai bhaaee se tan hoe chhaar | Those bodies, in which the Name of the Lord does not well up, O Siblings of Destiny - those bodies are reduced to ashes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਨ ਏਕੰਕਾਰ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ saadhasangat kau vaariaa bhaaee jin ekankaar adhaar |1| I am a sacrifice to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Siblings of Destiny; they take the Support of the One and Only Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋਈ ਸਚੁ ਅਰਾਧਣਾ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ soee sach araadhanaa bhaaee jis te sabh kichh hoe | So worship and adore that True Lord, O Siblings of Destiny; He alone does everything. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਜਾਣਾਇਆ ਭਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur poorai jaanaaeaa bhaaee tis bin avar na koe | rahaau | The Perfect Guru has taught me, O Siblings of Destiny, that without Him, there is no other at all. ||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਭਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਗਣੀ ॥ naam vihoone pach mue bhaaee ganat na jaae ganee | Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they putrefy and die, O Siblings of Destiny; their numbers cannot be counted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਸਚ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਧਣੀ ॥ vin sach soch na paaeeai bhaaee saachaa agam dhanee | Without Truth, purity cannot be achieved, O Siblings of Destiny; the Lord is true and unfathomable. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਭਾਈ ਝੂਠੀ ਦੁਨੀ ਮਣੀ ॥ aavan jaan na chukee bhaaee jhootthee dunee manee | Coming and going do not end, O Siblings of Destiny; pride in worldly valuables is false. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਉਧਾਰਦਾ ਭਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਵੈ ਏਕ ਕਣੀ ॥੨॥ guramukh kott udhaaradaa bhaaee de naavai ek kanee |2| The Gurmukh saves millions of people, O Siblings of Destiny, blessing them with even a particle of the Name. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਸੋਧਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ sinmrit saasat sodhiaa bhaaee vin satigur bharam na jaae | I have searched through the Simritees and the Shaastras, O Siblings of Destiny - without the True Guru, doubt does not depart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ anik karam kar thaakiaa bhaaee fir fir bandhan paae | They are so tired of performing their many deeds, O Siblings of Destiny, but they fall into bondage again and again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਸੋਧੀਆ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ chaare kunddaa sodheea bhaaee vin satigur naahee jaae | I have searched in the four directions, O Siblings of Destiny, but without the True Guru, there is no place at all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
