ਗਲਿ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖਿੰਚੈ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਹਾ ॥ gal jevarree aape paaeidaa piaaraa jiau prabh khinchai tiau jaahaa | The Beloved Himself puts the chains around their necks; as God pulls them, must they go. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਗਰਬੈ ਸੋ ਪਚਸੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੬॥ jo garabai so pachasee piaare jap naanak bhagat samaahaa |4|6| Whoever harbors pride shall be destroyed, O Beloved; meditating on the Lord, Nanak is absorbed in devotional worship. ||4||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ anik janam vichhurre dukh paaeaa manamukh karam karai ahankaaree | Separated from the Lord for countless lifetimes, the self-willed manmukh suffers in pain, engaged in acts of egotism. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਾਧੂ ਪਰਸਤ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ saadhoo parasat hee prabh paaeaa gobid saran tumaaree |1| Beholding the Holy Saint, I found God; O Lord of the Universe, I seek Your Sanctuary. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੋਬਿਦ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥ gobid preet lagee at piaaree | The Love of God is very dear to me. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਬ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jab satasang bhe saadhoo jan hiradai miliaa saant muraaree | rahaau | When I joined the Sat Sangat, the Company of the Holy People, the Lord, the embodiment of peace, came into my heart. ||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤੂ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਗਵਾਰੀ ॥ too hiradai gupat vaseh din raatee teraa bhaau na bujheh gavaaree | You dwell, hidden, within my heart day and night, Lord; but the poor fools do not understand Your Love. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ satigur purakh miliaa prabh pragattiaa gun gaavai gun veechaaree |2| Meeting with the Almighty True Guru, God was revealed to me; I sing His Glorious Praises, and reflect upon His Glories. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਤਿ ਆਈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥ guramukh pragaas bheaa saat aaee duramat budh nivaaree | As Gurmukh, I have become enlightened; peace has come, and evil-mindedness has been dispelled from my mind. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ aatam braham cheen sukh paaeaa satasangat purakh tumaaree |3| Understanding the relationship of the individual soul with God, I have found peace, in Your Sat Sangat, Your True Congregation, O Lord. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪੁਰਖੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ purakhai purakh miliaa gur paaeaa jin kau kirapaa bhee tumaaree | Those who are blessed by Your Kind Mercy, meet the Almighty Lord, and find the Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੭॥ naanak atul sehaj sukh paaeaa anadin jaagat rahai banavaaree |4|7| Nanak has found the immeasurable, celestial peace; night and day, he remains awake to the Lord, the Master of the Forest of the Universe. ||4||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ har siau preet antar man bedhiaa har bin rehan na jaaee | The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ jiau machhulee bin neerai binasai tiau naamai bin mar jaaee |1| Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord’s Name. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ ॥ mere prabh kirapaa jal devahu har naaee | O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ hau antar naam mangaa din raatee naame hee saant paaee | rahaau | I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. ||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ jiau chaatrik jal bin bilalaavai bin jal piaas na jaaee | The song-bird cries out for lack of water - without water, its thirst cannot be quenched. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ guramukh jal paavai sukh sahaje hariaa bhaae subhaaee |2| The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ manamukh bhookhe deh dis ddoleh bin naavai dukh paaee | The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥ janam marai fir jonee aavai darageh milai sajaaee |3| They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ kripaa kareh taa har gun gaavah har ras antar paaee | But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord’s elixir. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥ naanak deen deaal bhe hai trisanaa sabad bujhaaee |4|8| The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. ||4||8|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਧੀ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ achar charai taa sidh hoee sidhee te budh paaee | If one eats the uneatable, then he becomes a Siddha, a being of perfect spirituality; through this perfection, he obtains wisdom. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਸਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ prem ke sar laage tan bheetar taa bhram kaattiaa jaaee |1| When the arrow of the Lord’s Love pierces his body, then his doubt is eradicated. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ mere gobid apune jan kau dehi vaddiaaee | O my Lord of the Universe, please bless Your humble servant with glory. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ guramat raam naam paragaasahu sadaa rahahu saranaaee | rahaau | Under Guru’s Instructions, enlighten me with the Lord’s Name, that I may dwell forever in Your Sanctuary. ||Pause|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਜਾਣਾ ॥ eihu sansaar sabh aavan jaanaa man moorakh chet ajaanaa | This whole world is engrossed in coming and going; O my foolish and ignorant mind, be mindful of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੨॥ har jeeo kripaa karahu gur melahu taa har naam samaanaa |2| O Dear Lord, please, take pity upon me, and unite me with the Guru, that I may merge in the Lord’s Name. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਥੁ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ jis kee vath soee prabh jaanai jis no dee su paae | Only one who has it knows God; he alone has it, to whom God has given it - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ॥੩॥ vasat anoop at agam agochar gur pooraa alakh lakhaae |3|
- so very beautiful, unapproachable and unfathomable. Through the Perfect Guru, the unknowable is known. ||3|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਚਾਖੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ ॥ jin ih chaakhee soee jaanai goonge kee mitthiaaee | Only one who tastes it knows it, like the mute, who tastes the sweet candy, but cannot speak of it. - Guru Ramdas Ji
