ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ janam janam ke kilabikh dukh kaatte aape mel milaaee | rahaau | The sins and sorrows of countless lifetimes are eradicated; the Lord Himself unites them in His Union. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਭਾਈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਸੈਂਸਾਰਾ ॥ eihu kuttanb sabh jeea ke bandhan bhaaee bharam bhulaa sainsaaraa | All of these relatives are like chains upon the soul, O Siblings of Destiny; the world is deluded by doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਟੂਟਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥ bin gur bandhan ttootteh naahee guramukh mokh duaaraa | Without the Guru, the chains cannot be broken; the Gurmukhs find the door of salvation. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ karam kareh gurasabad na pachhaaneh mar janameh vaaro vaaraa |2| One who performs rituals without realizing the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, shall die and be reborn, again and again. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਗੁ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਾਈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੇਰਾ ॥ hau meraa jag palach rahiaa bhaaee koe na kis hee keraa | The world is entangled in egotism and possessiveness, O Siblings of Destiny, but no one belongs to anyone else. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥ guramukh mehal paaein gun gaavan nij ghar hoe baseraa | The Gurmukhs attain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, singing the Glories of the Lord; they dwell in the home of their own inner being. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਐਥੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ aithai boojhai su aap pachhaanai har prabh hai tis keraa |3| One who understands here, realizes himself; the Lord God belongs to him. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ satiguroo sadaa deaal hai bhaaee vin bhaagaa kiaa paaeeai | The True Guru is forever merciful, O Siblings of Destiny; without good destiny, what can anyone obtain? - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਜੇਹਾ ਭਾਉ ਤੇਹਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ek nadar kar vekhai sabh aoopar jehaa bhaau tehaa fal paaeeai | He looks alike upon all with His Glance of Grace, but people receive the fruits of their rewards according to their love for the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੬॥ naanak naam vasai man antar vichahu aap gavaaeeai |4|6| O Nanak, when the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind, then self-conceit is eradicated from within. ||4||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਚੌਤੁਕੇ ॥ soratth mahalaa 3 chauatuke | Sorat’h, Third Mehl, Chau-Thukay: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਚੀ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ sachee bhagat satigur te hovai sachee hiradai baanee | True devotional worship is obtained only through the True Guru, when the True Word of His Bani is in the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ satigur seve sadaa sukh paae haumai sabad samaanee | Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained; egotism is obliterated through the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਹੋਰ ਭੂਲੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥ bin gur saache bhagat na hovee hor bhoolee firai eaanee | Without the Guru, there is no true devotion; otherwise, people wander around, deluded by ignorance. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਡੂਬਿ ਮੁਏ ਵਿਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ manamukh fireh sadaa dukh paaveh ddoob mue vin paanee |1| The self-willed manmukhs wander around, suffering in constant pain; they drown and die, even without water. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ bhaaee re sadaa rahahu saranaaee | O Siblings of Destiny, remain forever in the Lord’s Sanctuary, under His Protection. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਣੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਪਤਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੋ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aapanee nadar kare pat raakhai har naamo de vaddiaaee | rahaau | Bestowing His Glance of Grace, He preserves our honor, and blesses us with the glory of the Lord’s Name. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ poore gur te aap pachhaataa sabad sachai veechaaraa | Through the Perfect Guru, one comes to understand himself, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਦ ਵਸਿਆ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ hiradai jagajeevan sad vasiaa taj kaam krodh ahankaaraa | The Lord, the Life of the world, ever abides in his heart, and he renounces sexual desire, anger and egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ sadaa hajoor raviaa sabh tthaaee hiradai naam apaaraa | The Lord is ever-present, permeating and pervading all places; the Name of the Infinite Lord is enshrined within the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀ ਨਾਉ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੨॥ jug jug baanee sabad pachhaanee naau meetthaa maneh piaaraa |2| Throughout the ages, through the Word of His Bani, His Shabad is realized, and the Name becomes so sweet and beloved to the mind. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਗਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ satigur sev jin naam pachhaataa safal janam jag aaeaa | Serving the Guru, one realizes the Naam, the Name of the Lord; fruitful is his life, and his coming into the world. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣੀ ਅਘਾਇਆ ॥ har ras chaakh sadaa man tripatiaa gun gaavai gunee aghaaeaa | Tasting the sublime elixir of the Lord, his mind is satisfied and satiated forever; singing the Glories of the Glorious Lord, he is fulfilled and satisfied. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਇਆ ॥ kamal pragaas sadaa rang raataa anahad sabad vajaaeaa | The lotus of his heart blossoms forth, he is ever imbued with the Lord’s Love, and the unstruck melody of the Shabad resounds within him. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ tan man niramal niramal baanee sache sach samaaeaa |3| His body and mind become immaculately pure; his speech becomes immaculate as well, and he merges in the Truest of the True. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ raam naam kee gat koe na boojhai guramat ridai samaaee | No one knows the state of the Lord’s Name; through the Guru’s Teachings, it comes to abide in the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਮਗੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਈ ॥ guramukh hovai su mag pachhaanai har ras rasan rasaaee | One who becomes Gurmukh, understands the Path; his tongue savors the sublime essence of the Lord’s Nectar. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ jap tap sanjam sabh gur te hovai hiradai naam vasaaee | Meditation, austere self-discipline and self-restraint are all obtained from the Guru; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide within the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੭॥ naanak naam samaaleh se jan sohan dar saachai pat paaee |4|7| O Nanak, those humble beings who praise the Naam are beautiful; they are honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||4||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਭਾਈ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਬੂਝ ਪਾਇ ॥ satigur miliai ulattee bhee bhaaee jeevat marai taa boojh paae | Meeting the True Guru, one turns away from the world, O Siblings of Destiny; when he remains dead while yet alive, he obtains true understanding. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੋ ਸਿਖੁ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੧॥ so guroo so sikh hai bhaaee jis jotee jot milaae |1| He alone is the Guru, and he alone is a Sikh, O Siblings of Destiny, whose light merges in the Light. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ man re har har setee liv laae | O my mind, be lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਥਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ man har jap meetthaa laagai bhaaee guramukh paae har thaae | rahaau | Chanting the Name of the Lord, it seems so sweet to the mind, O Siblings of Destiny; the Gurmukhs obtain a place in the Court of the Lord. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
