ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਤੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ manamukh mugadh har naam na chetai birathaa janam gavaaeaa | The foolish self-willed manmukh does not remember the Lord’s Name; he wastes away his life in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ satigur bhette taa naau paae haumai mohu chukaaeaa |3| But when he meets the True Guru, then he obtains the Name; he sheds egotism and emotional attachment. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ har jan saache saach kamaaveh gur kai sabad veechaaree | The Lord’s humble servants are True - they practice Truth, and reflect upon the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੁ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ aape mel le prabh saachai saach rakhiaa ur dhaaree | The True Lord God unites them with Himself, and they keep the True Lord enshrined in their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਏਹਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥ naanak naavahu gat mat paaee ehaa raas hamaaree |4|1| O Nanak, through the Name, I have obtained salvation and understanding; this alone is my wealth. ||4||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਨਾਉ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ bhagat khajaanaa bhagatan kau deea naau har dhan sach soe | The True Lord has blessed His devotees with the treasure of devotional worship, and the wealth of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਖੁਟੁ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਕਦੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ akhutt naam dhan kade nikhuttai naahee kinai na keemat hoe | The wealth of the Naam, shall never be exhausted; no one can estimate its worth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮ ਧਨਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ naam dhan mukh ujale hoe har paaeaa sach soe |1| With the wealth of the Naam, their faces are radiant, and they attain the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ man mere gurasabadee har paaeaa jaae | O my mind, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the Lord is found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁਲਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bin sabadai jag bhuladaa firadaa daragah milai sajaae | rahaau | Without the Shabad, the world wanders around, and receives its punishment in the Court of the Lord. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਵਸਹਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ eis dehee andar panch chor vaseh kaam krodh lobh mohu ahankaaraa | Within this body dwell the five thieves: sexual desire, anger, greed, emotional attachment and egotism. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੂਟਹਿ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੁਣੈ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥ amrit lootteh manamukh nahee boojheh koe na sunai pookaaraa | They plunder the Nectar, but the self-willed manmukh does not realize it; no one hears his complaint. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਧਾ ਜਗਤੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ andhaa jagat andh varataaraa baajh guroo gubaaraa |2| The world is blind, and its dealings are blind as well; without the Guru, there is only pitch darkness. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੇ ਕਿਹੁ ਚਲੈ ਨ ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ haumai meraa kar kar vigute kihu chalai na chaladiaa naal | Indulging in egotism and possessiveness, they are ruined; when they depart, nothing goes along with them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥ guramukh hovai su naam dhiaavai sadaa har naam samaal | But one who becomes Gurmukh meditates on the Naam, and ever contemplates the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੩॥ sachee baanee har gun gaavai nadaree nadar nihaal |3| Through the True Word of Gurbani, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; blessed with the Lord’s Glance of Grace, he is enraptured. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹਾ ॥ satigur giaan sadaa ghatt chaanan amar sir baadisaahaa | The spiritual wisdom of the True Guru is a steady light within the heart. The Lord’s decree is over the heads of even kings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹਾ ॥ anadin bhagat kareh din raatee raam naam sach laahaa | Night and day, the Lord’s devotees worship Him; night and day, they gather in the true profit of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ naanak raam naam nisataaraa sabad rate har paahaa |4|2| O Nanak, through the Lord’s Name, one is emancipated; attuned to the Shabad, he finds the Lord. ||4||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ daasan daas hovai taa har paae vichahu aap gavaaee | If one becomes the slave of the Lord’s slaves, then he finds the Lord, and eradicates ego from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥ bhagataa kaa kaaraj har anand hai anadin har gun gaaee | The Lord of bliss is his object of devotion; night and day, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ sabad rate sadaa ik rangee har siau rahe samaaee |1| Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, the Lord’s devotees remain ever as one, absorbed in the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥ har jeeo saachee nadar tumaaree | O Dear Lord, Your Glance of Grace is True. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਣਿਆ ਦਾਸਾ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਪੈਜ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aapaniaa daasaa no kripaa kar piaare raakhahu paij hamaaree | rahaau | Show mercy to Your slave, O Beloved Lord, and preserve my honor. ||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥ sabad salaahee sadaa hau jeevaa guramatee bhau bhaagaa | Continually praising the Word of the Shabad, I live; under Guru’s Instruction, my fear has been dispelled. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਤਿ ਸੁਆਲਿਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ meraa prabh saachaa at suaaliau gur seviaa chit laagaa | My True Lord God is so beautiful! Serving the Guru, my consciousness is focused on Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥੨॥ saachaa sabad sachee sach baanee so jan anadin jaagaa |2| One who chants the True Word of the Shabad, and the Truest of the True, the Word of His Bani, remains wakeful, day and night. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਹਾ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ mahaa ganbheer sadaa sukhadaataa tis kaa ant na paaeaa | He is so very deep and profound, the Giver of eternal peace; no one can find His limit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਨੀ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ poore gur kee sevaa keenee achint har man vasaaeaa | Serving the Perfect Guru, one becomes carefree, enshrining the Lord within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ man tan niramal sadaa sukh antar vichahu bharam chukaaeaa |3| The mind and body become immaculately pure, and a lasting peace fills the heart; doubt is eradicated from within. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸਦਾ ਪੰਥੁ ਵਿਖੜਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ har kaa maarag sadaa panth vikharraa ko paae gur veechaaraa | The Way of the Lord is always such a difficult path; only a few find it, contemplating the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਜੇ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥ har kai rang raataa sabade maataa haumai taje vikaaraa | Imbued with the Lord’s Love, and intoxicated with the Shabad, he renounces ego and corruption. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥ naanak naam rataa ik rangee sabad savaaranahaaraa |4|3| O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, and the Love of the One Lord, he is embellished with the Word of the Shabad. ||4||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
