ਹਉ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਧੰਧੈ ਧਾਵਣੀਆ ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਵਿਧਣਕਾਰੇ ॥ hau muttharree dhandhai dhaavaneea pir chhoddiarree vidhanakaare | I too have been defrauded, chasing after worldly entanglements; my Husband Lord has forsaken me - I practice the evil deeds of a wife without a spouse. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਮਹੇਲੀਆ ਰੂੜੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ ghar ghar kant maheleea roorrai het piaare | In each and every home, are the brides of the Husband Lord; they gaze upon their Handsome Lord with love and affection. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹਉ ਰਹਸਿਅੜੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਭਤਾਰੇ ॥੭॥ mai pir sach saalaahanaa hau rahasiarree naam bhataare |7| I sing the Praises of my True Husband Lord, and through the Naam, the Name of my Husband Lord, I blossom forth. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਵੇਸੁ ਪਲਟਿਆ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਸਚੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥ gur miliai ves palattiaa saa dhan sach seegaaro | Meeting with the Guru, the soul-bride’s dress is transformed, and she is adorned with Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੋ ॥ aavahu milahu saheleeho simarahu sirajanahaaro | Come and meet with me, O brides of the Lord; let’s meditate in remembrance on the Creator Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਈਅਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੋੁਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੋ ॥ beear naam suohaaganee sach savaaranahaaro | Through the Naam, the soul-bride becomes the Lord’s favorite; she is adorned with Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਾਵਹੁ ਗੀਤੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਹੜਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੮॥੩॥ gaavahu geet na biraharraa naanak braham beechaaro |8|3| Do not sing the songs of separation, O Nanak; reflect upon God. ||8||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਜਾਣੋਵਾ ॥ jin jag siraj samaaeaa so saahib kudarat jaanovaa | The One who creates and dissolves the world - that Lord and Master alone knows His creative power. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਭਾਲੀਐ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੋਵਾ ॥ sacharraa door na bhaaleeai ghatt ghatt sabad pachhaanovaa | Do not search for the True Lord far away; recognize the Word of the Shabad in each and every heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਹੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹ ਰਚਨਾ ਰਾਚੀ ॥ sach sabad pachhaanahu door na jaanahu jin eeh rachanaa raachee | Recognize the Shabad, and do not think that the Lord is far away; He created this creation. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਤਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਿੜ ਕਾਚੀ ॥ naam dhiaae taa sukh paae bin naavai pirr kaachee | Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, one obtains peace; without the Naam, he plays a losing game. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਥਾਪੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਵਖਾਣੋ ॥ jin thaapee bidh jaanai soee kiaa ko kahai vakhaano | The One who established the Universe, He alone knows the Way; what can anyone say? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਥਾਪਿ ਵਤਾਇਆ ਜਾਲੋੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੋ ॥੧॥ jin jag thaap vataaeaa jaaluo so saahib paravaano |1| The One who established the world cast the net of Maya over it; accept Him as your Lord and Master. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਾਬਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਠਿ ਚਲਣਾ ਅਧ ਪੰਧੈ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ baabaa aaeaa hai utth chalanaa adh pandhai hai sansaarovaa | O Baba, he has come, and now he must get up and depart; this world is only a way-station. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਚੜੈ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ sir sir sacharrai likhiaa dukh sukh purab veechaarovaa | Upon each and every head, the True Lord writes their destiny of pain and pleasure, according to their past actions. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੀਆ ਜੇਹਾ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲੇ ॥ dukh sukh deea jehaa keea so nibahai jeea naale | He bestows pain and pleasure, according to the deeds done; the record of these deeds stays with the soul. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰ ਨ ਭਾਲੇ ॥ jehe karam karaae karataa doojee kaar na bhaale | He does those deeds which the Creator Lord causes him to do; he attempts no other actions. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਬਾਧੀ ਕਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਛਡਾਵਣਹਾਰੋ ॥ aap niraalam dhandhai baadhee kar hukam chhaddaavanahaaro | The Lord Himself is detached, while the world is entangled in conflict; by His Command, He emancipates it. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਜੁ ਕਲਿ ਕਰਦਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰੋ ॥੨॥ aj kal karadiaa kaal biaapai doojai bhaae vikaaro |2| He may put this off today, but tomorrow he is seized by death; in love with duality, he practices corruption. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਮ ਮਾਰਗ ਪੰਥੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਉਝੜੁ ਅੰਧ ਗੁਬਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ jam maarag panth na sujhee ujharr andh gubaarovaa | The path of death is dark and dismal; the way cannot be seen. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਲੇਫ ਤੁਲਾਈਆ ਨਾ ਭੋਜਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੋਵਾ ॥ naa jal lef tulaaeea naa bhojan parakaarovaa | There is no water, no quilt or mattress, and no food there. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭੋਜਨ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥ bhojan bhaau na tthandtaa paanee naa kaaparr seegaaro | He receives no food there, no honor or water, no clothes or decorations. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਲਿ ਸੰਗਲੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਊਭੌ ਨਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਘਰ ਬਾਰੋ ॥ gal sangal sir maare aoobhau naa deesai ghar baaro | The chain is put around his neck, and the Messenger of Death standing over his head strikes him; he cannot see the door of his home. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਬ ਕੇ ਰਾਹੇ ਜੰਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੋ ॥ eib ke raahe jaman naahee pachhutaane sir bhaaro | The seeds planted on this path do not sprout; bearing the weight of his sins upon his head, he regrets and repents. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੩॥ bin saache ko belee naahee saachaa ehu beechaaro |3| Without the True Lord, no one is his friend; reflect upon this as true. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਾਬਾ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਰਵਹਿ ਸੁ ਜਾਣੀਅਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇਵਾ ॥ baabaa roveh raveh su jaaneeeh mil rovai gun saarevaa | O Baba, they alone are known to truly weep and wail, who meet together and weep, chanting the Praises of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰੋਵੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੁਠੜੀ ਧੰਧੜਾ ਰੋਵਣਹਾਰੇਵਾ ॥ rovai maaeaa muttharree dhandharraa rovanahaarevaa | Defrauded by Maya and worldly affairs, the weepers weep. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧੰਧਾ ਰੋਵੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੋ ॥ dhandhaa rovai mail na dhovai supanantar sansaaro | They weep for the sake of worldly affairs, and they do not wash off their own filth; the world is merely a dream. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਜੀਗਰੁ ਭਰਮੈ ਭੂਲੈ ਝੂਠਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੋ ॥ jiau baajeegar bharamai bhoolai jhootth mutthee ahankaaro | Like the juggler, deceiving by his tricks, one is deluded by egotism, falsehood and illusion. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ aape maarag paavanahaaraa aape karam kamaae | The Lord Himself reveals the Path; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥ naam rate gur poorai raakhe naanak sehaj subhaae |4|4| Those who are imbued with the Naam, are protected by the Perfect Guru, O Nanak; they merge in celestial bliss. ||4||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਚਾ ਘਰੁ ਸਚੜੈ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਖਰਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੋਵਾ ॥ sachaa ghar sacharrai seveeai sach kharaa sachiaarovaa | One’s true home is obtained by serving the True Lord; real Truth is obtained by being truthful. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕੂੜਿ ਲਬਿ ਜਾਂ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਸੀ ਅਗੈ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਠਾਓ ॥ koorr lab jaan thaae na paasee agai lahai na tthaao | By falsehood and greed, no place of rest is found, and no place in the world hereafter is obtained. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਉ ਨ ਬੈਸਹੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਓ ॥ antar aau na baisahu kaheeai jiau sunyai ghar kaao | No one invites him to come in and sit down. He is like a crow in a deserted home. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਡਾ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਜਗੁ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ jaman maran vaddaa vechhorraa binasai jag sabaae | Trapped by birth and death, he is separated from the Lord for such a long time; the whole world is wasting away. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲਬਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਖੜਾ ਰੂਆਏ ॥੧॥ lab dhandhai maaeaa jagat bhulaaeaa kaal kharraa rooaae |1| Greed, worldly entanglements and Maya deceive the world. Death hovers over its head, and causes it to weep. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
