ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੋ ॥੩॥ naanak sabad milai bhau bhanjan har raavai masatak bhaago |3| O Nanak, through the Shabad, one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of fear, and by the destiny written on her forehead, she enjoys Him. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਖੇਤੀ ਵਣਜੁ ਸਭੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ khetee vanaj sabh hukam hai hukame man vaddiaaee raam | All farming and trading is by Hukam of His Will; surrendering to the Lord’s Will, glorious greatness is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ guramatee hukam boojheeai hukame mel milaaee raam | Under Guru’s Instruction, one comes to understand the Lord’s Will, and by His Will, he is united in His Union. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ hukam milaaee sehaj samaaee gur kaa sabad apaaraa | By His Will, one merges and easily blends with Him. The Shabads of the Guru are incomparable. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ sachee vaddiaaee gur te paaee sach savaaranahaaraa | Through the Guru, true greatness is obtained, and one is embellished with Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਉ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ bhau bhanjan paaeaa aap gavaaeaa guramukh mel milaaee | He finds the Destroyer of fear, and eradicates his self-conceit; as Gurmukh, he is united in His Union. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੨॥ kahu naanak naam niranjan agam agochar hukame rahiaa samaaee |4|2| Says Nanak, the Name of the immaculate, inaccessible, unfathomable Commander is permeating and pervading everywhere. ||4||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ vaddahans mahalaa 3 | Wadahans, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਜੀਉ ॥ man meriaa too sadaa sach samaal jeeo | O my mind, contemplate the True Lord forever. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਣੈ ਘਰਿ ਤੂ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਜੀਉ ॥ aapanai ghar too sukh vaseh pohi na sakai jamakaal jeeo | Dwell in peace in the home of your own self, and the Messenger of Death shall not touch you. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਲੁ ਜਾਲੁ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ kaal jaal jam johi na saakai saachai sabad liv laae | The noose of the Messenger of Death shall not touch you, when you embrace love for the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹਾਏ ॥ sadaa sach rataa man niramal aavan jaan rahaae | Ever imbued with the True Lord, the mind becomes immaculate, and its coming and going is ended. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਿ ਵਿਗੁਤੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ doojai bhaae bharam vigutee manamukh mohee jamakaal | The love of duality and doubt have ruined the self-willed manmukh, who is lured away by the Messenger of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ kahai naanak sun man mere too sadaa sach samaal |1| Says Nanak, listen, O my mind: contemplate the True Lord forever. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ man meriaa antar terai nidhaan hai baahar vasat na bhaal | O my mind, the treasure is within you; do not search for it on the outside. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭੁੰਚਿ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥ jo bhaavai so bhunch too guramukh nadar nihaal | Eat only that which is pleasing to the Lord, and as Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥ guramukh nadar nihaal man mere antar har naam sakhaaee | As Gurmukh, receive the blessing of His Glance of Grace, O my mind; the Name of the Lord, your help and support, is within you. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਈ ॥ manamukh andhule giaan vihoone doojai bhaae khuaaee | The self-willed manmukhs are blind, and devoid of wisdom; they are ruined by the love of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਛੂਟੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਬਾਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥ bin naavai ko chhoottai naahee sabh baadhee jamakaal | Without the Name, no one is emancipated. All are bound by the Messenger of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥੨॥ naanak antar terai nidhaan hai too baahar vasat na bhaal |2| O Nanak, the treasure is within you; do not search for it on the outside. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਇਕਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਗੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥ man meriaa janam padaarath paae kai ik sach lage vaapaaraa | O my mind, obtaining the blessing of this human birth, some are engaged in the trade of Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ satigur sevan aapanaa antar sabad apaaraa | They serve their True Guru, and the Infinite Word of the Shabad resounds within them. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ antar sabad apaaraa har naam piaaraa naame nau nidh paaee | Within them is the Infinite Shabad, and the Beloved Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Naam, the nine treasures are obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਆਪੇ ਦੂਖਿ ਸੰਤਾਪੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ manamukh maaeaa moh viaape dookh santaape doojai pat gavaaee | The self-willed manmukhs are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya; they suffer in pain, and through duality, they lose their honor. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ॥ haumai maar sach sabad samaane sach rate adhikaaee | But those who conquer their ego, and merge in the True Shabad, are totally imbued with Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥ naanak maanas janam dulanbh hai satigur boojh bujhaaee |3| O Nanak, it is so difficult to obtain this human life; the True Guru imparts this understanding. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ man mere satigur sevan aapanaa se jan vaddabhaagee raam | O my mind, those who serve their True Guru are the most fortunate beings. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ jo man maareh aapanaa se purakh bairaagee raam | Those who conquer their minds are beings of renunciation and detachment. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੇ ਜਨ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥ se jan bairaagee sach liv laagee aapanaa aap pachhaaniaa | They are beings of renunciation and detachment, who lovingly focus their consciousness on the True Lord; they realize and understand their own selves. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਅਤਿ ਗੂੜੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥ mat nihachal at goorree guramukh sahaje naam vakhaaniaa | Their intellect is steady, deep and profound; as Gurmukh, they naturally chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਕ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥ eik kaaman hitakaaree maaeaa mohi piaaree manamukh soe rahe abhaage | Some are lovers of beautiful young women; emotional attachment to Maya is very dear to them. The unfortunate self-willed manmukhs remain asleep. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੇ ॥੪॥੩॥ naanak sahaje seveh gur apanaa se poore vaddabhaage |4|3| O Nanak, those who intuitively serve their Guru, have perfect destiny. ||4||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਲਾਹਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ laahaa laabh har bhagat hai gun meh gunee samaaee raam | The profit of profits is the devotional worship of the Lord; one’s virtues merge into the virtues of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
