ਜਿਹਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੀ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ jihavaa sachee sach ratee tan man sachaa hoe | True is the tongue which is imbued with Truth, and true are the mind and body. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਚੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਜਾਸਹਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੨॥ bin saache hor saalaahanaa jaaseh janam sabh khoe |2| By praising any other than the True Lord, one’s whole life is wasted. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਖੇਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਬੀਜਣਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥ sach khetee sach beejanaa saachaa vaapaaraa | Let Truth be the farm, Truth the seed, and Truth the merchandise you trade. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ anadin laahaa sach naam dhan bhagat bhare bhanddaaraa |3| Night and day, you shall earn the profit of the Lord’s Name; you shall have the treasure overflowing with the wealth of devotional worship. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਖਾਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਪੈਨਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਟੇਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ sach khaanaa sach painanaa sach ttek har naau | Let Truth be your food, and let Truth be your clothes; let your True Support be the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਉ ॥੪॥ jis no bakhase tis milai mahalee paae thaau |4| One who is so blessed by the Lord, obtains a seat in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਮੂਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਹਿ ॥ aaveh sache jaaveh sache fir joonee mool na paeh | In Truth we come, and in Truth we go, and then, we are not consigned to reincarnation again. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਹਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੫॥ guramukh dar saachai sachiaar heh saache maeh samaeh |5| The Gurmukhs are hailed as True in the True Court; they merge in the True Lord. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਨਾਇ ॥ antar sachaa man sachaa sachee sifat sanaae | Deep within they are True, and their minds are True; they sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਥਾਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੬॥ sachai thaan sach saalaahanaa satigur balihaarai jaau |6| In the true place, they praise the True Lord; I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਸਚੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ sach velaa moorat sach jit sache naal piaar | True is the time, and true is the moment, when one falls in love with the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਸਚੁ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਸਚਾ ਸਭੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ॥੭॥ sach vekhanaa sach bolanaa sachaa sabh aakaar |7| Then, he sees Truth, and speaks the Truth; he realizes the True Lord pervading the entire Universe. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ naanak sachai mele taa mile aape le milaae | O Nanak, one merges with the True Lord, when He merges with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੮॥੧॥ jiau bhaavai tiau rakhasee aape kare rajaae |8|1| As it pleases Him, He preserves us; He Himself ordains His Will. ||8||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨੂਆ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਦਾ ਓਹੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ manooaa deh dis dhaavadaa ohu kaise har gun gaavai | His mind wanders in the ten directions - how can he sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ eindree viaap rahee adhikaaee kaam krodh nit santaavai |1| The sensory organs are totally engrossed in sensuality; sexual desire and anger constantly afflict him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥ vaahu vaahu sahaje gun raveejai | Waaho! Waaho! Hail! Hail! Chant His Glorious Praises. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ raam naam is jug meh dulabh hai guramat har ras peejai |1| rahaau | The Lord’s Name is so difficult to obtain in this age; under Guru’s Instruction, drink in the subtle essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥ sabad cheen man niramal hovai taa har ke gun gaavai | Remembering the Word of the Shabad, the mind becomes immaculately pure, and then, one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ guramatee aapai aap pachhaanai taa nij ghar vaasaa paavai |2| Under Guru’s Instruction, one comes to understand his own self, and then, he comes to dwell in the home of his inner self. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥ e man mere sadaa rang raate sadaa har ke gun gaau | O my mind, be imbued forever with the Lord’s Love, and sing forever the Glorious Praises of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਉ ॥੩॥ har niramal sadaa sukhadaataa man chindiaa fal paau |3| The Immaculate Lord is forever the Giver of peace; from Him, one receives the fruits of his heart’s desires. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਸੇ ਊਤਮ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ ham neech se aootam bhe har kee saranaaee | I am lowly, but I have been exalted, entering the Sanctuary of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਾਥਰੁ ਡੁਬਦਾ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਆ ਸਾਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥ paathar ddubadaa kaadt leea saachee vaddiaaee |4| He has lifted up the sinking stone; True is His glorious greatness. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਖੁ ਸੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ ॥ bikh se amrit bhe guramat budh paaee | From poison, I have been transformed into Ambrosial Nectar; under Guru’s Instruction, I have obtained wisdom. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਕਹੁ ਪਰਮਲ ਭਏ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੫॥ akahu paramal bhe antar vaasanaa vasaaee |5| From bitter herbs, I have been transformed into sandalwood; this fragrance permeates me deep within. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਣਸ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੁਲੰਭੁ ਹੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਖਟਿਆ ਆਇ ॥ maanas janam dulanbh hai jag meh khattiaa aae | This human birth is so precious; one must earn the right to come into the world. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੬॥ poorai bhaag satigur milai har naam dhiaae |6| By perfect destiny, I met the True Guru, and I meditate on the Lord’s Name. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ manamukh bhoole bikh lage ahilaa janam gavaaeaa | The self-willed manmukhs are deluded; attached to corruption, they waste away their lives in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ har kaa naam sadaa sukh saagar saachaa sabad na bhaaeaa |7| The Name of the Lord is forever an ocean of peace, but the manmukhs do not love the Word of the Shabad. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੁਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ mukhahu har har sabh ko karai viralai hiradai vasaaeaa | Everyone can chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har with their mouths, but only a few enshrine it within their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਿਨੑ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੮॥੨॥ naanak jin kai hiradai vasiaa mokh mukat tina paaeaa |8|2| O Nanak, those who enshrine the Lord within their hearts, attain liberation and emancipation. ||8||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜਿ ਵਿਗਾੜਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਈਐ ॥ kaaeaa koorr vigaarr kaahe naaeeai | Why bother to wash the body, polluted by falsehood? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥ naataa so paravaan sach kamaaeeai | One’s cleansing bath is only approved, if he practices Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਬ ਸਾਚ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਮਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ jab saach andar hoe saachaa taam saachaa paaeeai | When there is Truth within the heart, then one becomes True, and obtains the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
