ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ vaddahans mahalaa 3 | Wadahans, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ maaeaa mohu gubaar hai gur bin giaan na hoee | Emotional attachment to Maya is darkness; without the Guru, there is no wisdom. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਲਗੇ ਤਿਨ ਬੁਝਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਰਜ ਵਿਗੋਈ ॥੧॥ sabad lage tin bujhiaa doojai paraj vigoee |1| Those who are attached to the Word of the Shabad understand; duality has ruined the people. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ man mere guramat karanee saar | O my mind, under Guru’s Instruction, do good deeds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਰਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sadaa sadaa har prabh raveh taa paaveh mokh duaar |1| rahaau | Dwell forever and ever upon the Lord God, and you shall find the gate of salvation. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਣਾ ਕਾ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ gunaa kaa nidhaan ek hai aape dee taa ko paae | The Lord alone is the treasure of virtue; He Himself gives, and then one receives. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਵਿਛੁੜੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥ bin naavai sabh vichhurree gur kai sabad milaae |2| Without the Name, all are separated from the Lord; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one meets the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਘਟਿ ਗਏ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਥਿ ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥ meree meree karade ghatt ge tinaa hath kihu na aaeaa | Acting in ego, they lose, and nothing comes into their hands. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ satagur miliai sach mile sach naam samaaeaa |3| Meeting the True Guru, they find Truth, and merge into the True Name. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਗਾਏ ॥ aasaa manasaa ehu sareer hai antar jot jagaae | Hope and desire abide in this body, but the Lord’s Light shines within as well. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਬੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥ naanak manamukh bandh hai guramukh mukat karaae |4|3| O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs remain in bondage; the Gurmukhs are liberated. ||4||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਉਜਲਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ sohaaganee sadaa mukh ujalaa gur kai sehaj subhaae | The faces of the happy soul-brides are radiant forever; through the Guru, they are peacefully poised. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੧॥ sadaa pir raaveh aapanaa vichahu aap gavaae |1| They enjoy their Husband Lord constantly, eradicating their ego from within. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ mere man too har har naam dhiaae | O my mind, meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satagur mo kau har deea bujhaae |1| rahaau | The True Guru has led me to understand the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਖਰੀਆ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ dohaaganee khareea bilalaadeea tinaa mehal na paae | The abandoned brides cry out in their suffering; they do not attain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕਰੂਪੀ ਦੂਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ doojai bhaae karoopee dookh paaveh aagai jaae |2| In the love of duality, they appear so ugly; they suffer in pain as they go to the world beyond. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਨਿਤ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇ ॥ gunavantee nit gun ravai hiradai naam vasaae | The virtuous soul-bride constantly chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord; she enshrines the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within her heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਉਗਣਵੰਤੀ ਕਾਮਣੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥੩॥ aauganavantee kaamanee dukh laagai bilalaae |3| The unvirtuous woman suffers, and cries out in pain. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਭਤਾਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ sabhanaa kaa bhataar ek hai suaamee kahanaa kichhoo na jaae | The One Lord and Master is the Husband Lord of all; His Praises cannot be expressed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਕ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਇਅਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੪॥੪॥ naanak aape vek keetian naame leian laae |4|4| O Nanak, He has separated some from Himself, while others are to His Name. ||4||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗਾ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸਾਦੁ ਆਇਆ ॥ amrit naam sad meetthaa laagaa gurasabadee saad aaeaa | The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam is always sweet to me; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I come to taste it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ sachee baanee sehaj samaanee har jeeo man vasaaeaa |1| Through the True Word of the Guru’s Bani, I am merged in peace and poise; the Dear Lord is enshrined in the mind. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥ har kar kirapaa sataguroo milaaeaa | The Lord, showing His Mercy, has caused me to meet the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ poorai satagur har naam dhiaaeaa |1| rahaau | Through the Perfect True Guru, I meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਬੇਦ ਬਾਣੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥ brahamai bed baanee paragaasee maaeaa moh pasaaraa | Through Brahma, the hymns of the Vedas were revealed, but the love of Maya spread. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਹਾਦੇਉ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਵਰਤੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ mahaadeo giaanee varatai ghar aapanai taamas bahut ahankaaraa |2| The wise one, Shiva, remains absorbed in himself, but he is engrossed in dark passions and excessive egotism. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਿਸਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ਰੂਧਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ kisan sadaa avataaree roodhaa kit lag tarai sansaaraa | Vishnu is always busy reincarnating himself - who will save the world? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ guramukh giaan rate jug antar chookai moh gubaaraa |3| The Gurmukhs are imbued with spiritual wisdom in this age; they are rid of the darkness of emotional attachment. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ satagur sevaa te nisataaraa guramukh tarai sansaaraa | Serving the True Guru, one is emancipated; the Gurmukh crosses over the world-ocean. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੪॥ saachai naae rate bairaagee paaein mokh duaaraa |4| The detached renunciates are imbued with the True Name; they attain the gate of salvation. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਾ ॥ eko sach varatai sabh antar sabhanaa kare pratipaalaa | The One True Lord is pervading and permeating everywhere; He cherishes everyone. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਦੀਵਾਨੁ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥੫॥੫॥ naanak ikas bin mai avar na jaanaa sabhanaa deevaan deaalaa |5|5| O Nanak, without the One Lord, I do not know any other; He is the Merciful Master of all. ||5||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
