ਜਿਚਰੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੰਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਈ ਕਿ ਕਰੇਗੁ ਅਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ jichar vich dam hai tichar na chetee ki kareg agai jaae | As long as there is breath in the body, he does not remember the Lord; what will he do in the world hereafter? - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਚੇਤੰਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ giaanee hoe su chetan hoe agiaanee andh kamaae | One who remembers the Lord is a spiritual teacher; the ignorant one acts blindly. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਥੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਅਗੈ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak ethai kamaavai so milai agai paae jaae |1| O Nanak, whatever one does in this world, determines what he shall receive in the world hereafter. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਧੁਰਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ dhur khasamai kaa hukam peaa vin satigur chetiaa na jaae | From the very beginning, it has been the Will of the Lord Master, that He cannot be remembered without the True Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ satigur miliai antar rav rahiaa sadaa rahiaa liv laae | Meeting the True Guru, he realizes that the Lord is permeating and pervading deep within him; he remains forever absorbed in the Lord’s Love. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦਮਿ ਦਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਮਾਲਦਾ ਦੰਮੁ ਨ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ dam dam sadaa samaaladaa dam na birathaa jaae | With each and every breath, he constantly remembers the Lord in meditation; not a single breath passes in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ janam maran kaa bhau geaa jeevan padavee paae | His fears of birth and death depart, and he obtains the honored state of eternal life. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਮਰਤਬਾ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak ihu maratabaa tis no dee jis no kirapaa kare rajaae |2| O Nanak, He bestows this rank upon that mortal, upon whom He showers His Mercy. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾਂ ਬੀਨਿਆ ਆਪੇ ਪਰਧਾਨਾਂ ॥ aape daanaan beeniaa aape paradhaanaan | He Himself is all-wise and all-knowing; He Himself is supreme. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਲਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨਾਂ ॥ aape roop dikhaaladaa aape laae dhiaanaan | He Himself reveals His form, and He Himself enjoins us to His meditation. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਮੋਨੀ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਕਥੈ ਗਿਆਨਾਂ ॥ aape monee varatadaa aape kathai giaanaan | He Himself poses as a silent sage, and He Himself speaks spiritual wisdom. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਉੜਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਸਭਨਾ ਹੀ ਭਾਨਾ ॥ kaurraa kisai na lagee sabhanaa hee bhaanaa | He does not seem bitter to anyone; He is pleasing to all. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਬਰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀਐ ਸਦ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੧੯॥ ausatat baran na sakeeai sad sad kurabaanaa |19| His Praises cannot be described; forever and ever, I am a sacrifice to Him. ||19|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਲੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਅਉਤਾਰੁ ॥ kalee andar naanakaa jinaan daa aautaar | In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, O Nanak, the demons have taken birth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪੁਤੁ ਜਿਨੂਰਾ ਧੀਅ ਜਿੰਨੂਰੀ ਜੋਰੂ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ put jinooraa dheea jinooree joroo jinaa daa sikadaar |1| The son is a demon, and the daughter is a demon; the wife is the chief of the demons. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਮੂਲੇ ਭੂਲੇ ਅਖੁਟੀ ਜਾਂਹੀ ॥ hindoo moole bhoole akhuttee jaanhee | The Hindus have forgotten the Primal Lord; they are going the wrong way. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਨਾਰਦਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਿ ਪੂਜ ਕਰਾਂਹੀ ॥ naarad kahiaa si pooj karaanhee | As Naarad instructed them, they are worshipping idols. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅੰਧੇ ਗੁੰਗੇ ਅੰਧ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥ andhe gunge andh andhaar | They are blind and mute, the blindest of the blind. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਾਥਰੁ ਲੇ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥ paathar le poojeh mugadh gavaar | The ignorant fools pick up stones and worship them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਓਹਿ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਡੁਬੇ ਤੁਮ ਕਹਾ ਤਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ ohi jaa aap ddube tum kahaa taranahaar |2| But when those stones themselves sink, who will carry you across? ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਹੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥ sabh kihu terai vas hai too sachaa saahu | Everything is in Your power; You are the True King. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਭਗਤ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਏਕ ਕੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥ bhagat rate rang ek kai pooraa vesaahu | The devotees are imbued with the Love of the One Lord; they have perfect faith in Him. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਜਿ ਰਜਿ ਜਨ ਖਾਹੁ ॥ amrit bhojan naam har raj raj jan khaahu | The Name of the Lord is the ambrosial food; His humble servants eat their fill. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਭਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਾਈਅਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਲਾਹੁ ॥ sabh padaarath paaeean simaran sach laahu | All treasures are obtained - meditative remembrance on the Lord is the true profit. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਹੁ ॥੨੦॥ sant piaare paarabraham naanak har agam agaahu |20| The Saints are very dear to the Supreme Lord God, O Nanak; the Lord is unapproachable and unfathomable. ||20|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਆਵਦਾ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਇ ॥ sabh kichh hukame aavadaa sabh kichh hukame jaae | Everything comes by the Lord’s Will, and everything goes by the Lord’s Will. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਆਪਹੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ je ko moorakh aapahu jaanai andhaa andh kamaae | If some fool believes that he is the creator, he is blind, and acts in blindness. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਕੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak hukam ko guramukh bujhai jis no kirapaa kare rajaae |1| O Nanak, the Gurmukh understands the Hukam of the Lord’s Command; the Lord showers His Mercy upon him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ so jogee jugat so paae jis no guramukh naam paraapat hoe | He alone is a Yogi, and he alone finds the Way, who, as Gurmukh, obtains the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਿਸੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਕੀ ਨਗਰੀ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਸੈ ਭੇਖੀ ਜੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ tis jogee kee nagaree sabh ko vasai bhekhee jog na hoe | In the body-village of that Yogi are all blessings; this Yoga is not obtained by outward show. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ naanak aisaa viralaa ko jogee jis ghatt paragatt hoe |2| O Nanak, such a Yogi is very rare; the Lord is manifest in his heart. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥ aape jant upaaeian aape aadhaar | He Himself created the creatures, and He Himself supports them. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਭਾਲੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ॥ aape sookham bhaaleeai aape paasaar | He Himself is seen to be subtle, and He Himself is obvious. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਆਪਿ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਡ ਪਰਵਾਰੁ ॥ aap ikaatee hoe rahai aape vadd paravaar | He Himself remains a solitary recluse, and He Himself has a huge family. - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤਾ ਰੇਨਾਰੁ ॥ naanak mangai daan har santaa renaar | Nanak asks for the gift of the dust of the feet of the Saints of the Lord. - Guru Ramdas Ji
