ਜਿਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਜਾਣੇ ॥੧੧॥ jinaa aape guramukh de vaddiaaee se jan sachee darageh jaane |11| That Gurmukh, whom You have blessed with greatness - that humble being is known in Your True Court. ||11|| - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਰਦਾਨਾ ੧ ॥ salok maradaanaa 1 | Salok, Mardaanaa: - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਲਿ ਕਲਵਾਲੀ ਕਾਮੁ ਮਦੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਪੀਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ kal kalavaalee kaam mad manooaa peevanahaar | The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the vessel, filled with the wine of sexual desire; the mind is the drunkard. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰੀ ਪੀਲਾਵਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ krodh kattoree mohi bharee peelaavaa ahankaar | Anger is the cup, filled with emotional attachment, and egotism is the server. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਜਲਸ ਕੂੜੇ ਲਬ ਕੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ majalas koorre lab kee pee pee hoe khuaar | Drinking too much in the company of falsehood and greed, one is ruined. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਰਣੀ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਸਤੁ ਗੁੜੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ karanee laahan sat gurr sach saraa kar saar | So let good deeds be your distillery, and Truth your molasses; in this way, make the most excellent wine of Truth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਮੰਡੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਲੁ ਘਿਉ ਸਰਮੁ ਮਾਸੁ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥ gun mandde kar seel ghiau saram maas aahaar | Make virtue your bread, good conduct the ghee, and modesty the meat to eat. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਖਾਧੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ guramukh paaeeai naanakaa khaadhai jaeh bikaar |1| As Gurmukh, these are obtained, O Nanak; partaking of them, one’s sins depart. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਕਾਇਆ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਦੁ ਮਜਲਸ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਧਾਤੁ ॥ kaaeaa laahan aap mad majalas trisanaa dhaat | The human body is the vat, self-conceit is the wine, and desire is the company of drinking buddies. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਸਾ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਕੂੜਿ ਭਰੀ ਪੀਲਾਏ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ॥ manasaa kattoree koorr bharee peelaae jamakaal | The cup of the mind’s longing is overflowing with falsehood, and the Messenger of Death is the cup-bearer. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਇਤੁ ਮਦਿ ਪੀਤੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਖਟੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥ eit mad peetai naanakaa bahute khatteeeh bikaar | Drinking in this wine, O Nanak, one takes on countless sins and corruptions. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁੜੁ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੰਡੇ ਭਉ ਮਾਸੁ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥ giaan gurr saalaah mandde bhau maas aahaar | So make spiritual wisdom your molasses, the Praise of God your bread, and the Fear of God the meat you eat. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ naanak ihu bhojan sach hai sach naam aadhaar |2| O Nanak, this is the true food; let the True Name be your only Support. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਂਯਾਂ ਲਾਹਣਿ ਆਪੁ ਮਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਾਰ ॥ kaanyaan laahan aap mad amrit tis kee dhaar | If the human body is the vat, and self-realization is the wine, then a stream of Ambrosial Nectar is produced. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲਾਪੁ ਹੋਇ ਲਿਵ ਕਟੋਰੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਰੀ ਪੀ ਪੀ ਕਟਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੩॥ satasangat siau melaap hoe liv kattoree amrit bharee pee pee katteh bikaar |3| Meeting with the Society of the Saints, the cup of the Lord’s Love is filled with this Ambrosial Nectar; drinking it in, one’s corruptions and sins are wiped away. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬਾ ਆਪੇ ਖਟ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ aape sur nar gan gandharabaa aape khatt darasan kee baanee | He Himself is the angelic being, the heavenly herald, and the celestial singer. He Himself is the one who explains the six schools of philosophy. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਵ ਸੰਕਰ ਮਹੇਸਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥ aape siv sankar mahesaa aape guramukh akath kahaanee | He Himself is Shiva, Shankara and Mahaysh; He Himself is the Gurmukh, who speaks the Unspoken Speech. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਭੋਗੀ ਆਪੇ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਬਾਣੀ ॥ aape jogee aape bhogee aape saniaasee firai bibaanee | He Himself is the Yogi, He Himself is the Sensual Enjoyer, and He Himself is the Sannyaasee, wandering through the wilderness. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੋਸਟਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਘੜੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸਿਆਣੀ ॥ aapai naal gosatt aap upadesai aape sugharr saroop siaanee | He discusses with Himself, and He teaches Himself; He Himself is discrete, graceful and wise. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਣਾ ਚੋਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਣੀ ॥੧੨॥ aapanaa choj kar vekhai aape aape sabhanaa jeea kaa hai jaanee |12| Staging His own play, He Himself watches it; He Himself is the Knower of all beings. ||12|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਏਹਾ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥ ehaa sandhiaa paravaan hai jit har prabh meraa chit aavai | That evening prayer alone is acceptable, which brings the Lord God to my consciousness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥ har siau preet aoopajai maaeaa mohu jalaavai | Love for the Lord wells up within me, and my attachment to Maya is burnt away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਰੈ ਮਨੂਆ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ gur parasaadee dubidhaa marai manooaa asathir sandhiaa kare veechaar | By Guru’s Grace, duality is conquered, and the mind becomes stable; I have made contemplative meditation my evening prayer. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਧਿਆ ਕਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖੀ ਜੀਉ ਨ ਟਿਕੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੧॥ naanak sandhiaa karai manamukhee jeeo na ttikai mar jamai hoe khuaar |1| O Nanak, the self-willed manmukh may recite his evening prayers, but his mind is not centered on it; through birth and death, he is ruined. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਕਰਤੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ priau priau karatee sabh jag firee meree piaas na jaae | I wandered over the whole world, crying out, “Love, O Love!”, but my thirst was not quenched. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਗਈ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਘਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥ naanak satigur miliai meree piaas gee pir paaeaa ghar aae |2| O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, my desires are satisfied; I found my Beloved, when I returned to my own home. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਤੰਤੁ ਪਰਮ ਤੰਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਦਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ aape tant param tant sabh aape aape tthaakur daas bheaa | He Himself is the supreme essence, He Himself is the essence of all. He Himself is the Lord and Master, and He Himself is the servant. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦਸ ਅਠ ਵਰਨ ਉਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਆਪਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਲਇਆ ॥ aape das atth varan upaaeian aap braham aap raaj leaa | He Himself created the people of the eighteen castes; God Himself acquired His domain. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰੇ ਦਇਆ ॥ aape maare aape chhoddai aape bakhase kare deaa | He Himself kills, and He Himself redeems; He Himself, in His Kindness, forgives us. He is infallible - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲੈ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਸਚੁ ਥਿਆ ॥ aap abhul na bhulai kab hee sabh sach tapaavas sach thiaa |
- He never errs; the justice of the True Lord is totally True. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਜਿਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥੧੩॥ aape jinaa bujhaae guramukh tin andarahu doojaa bharam geaa |13| Those whom the Lord Himself instructs as Gurmukh - duality and doubt depart from within them. ||13|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤੈ ਤਨਿ ਉਡੈ ਖੇਹ ॥ har naam na simareh saadhasang tai tan uddai kheh | That body, which does not remember the Lord’s Name in meditation in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, shall be reduced to dust. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਈ ਨਾਨਕ ਫਿਟੁ ਅਲੂਣੀ ਦੇਹ ॥੧॥ jin keetee tisai na jaanee naanak fitt aloonee deh |1| Cursed and insipid is that body, O Nanak, which does not know the One who created it. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
