ਆਪੇ ਜਲੁ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਛਿੰਗਾ ਆਪੇ ਚੁਲੀ ਭਰਾਵੈ ॥ aape jal aape de chhingaa aape chulee bharaavai | He Himself is the water, He Himself gives the tooth-pick, and He Himself offers the mouthwash. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਦਿ ਬਹਾਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥ aape sangat sad bahaalai aape vidaa karaavai | He Himself calls and seats the congregation, and He Himself bids them goodbye. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਵੈ ॥੬॥ jis no kirapaal hovai har aape tis no hukam manaavai |6| One whom the Lord Himself blesses with His Mercy - the Lord causes him to walk according to His Will. ||6|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥ karam dharam sabh bandhanaa paap pun sanabandh | Rituals and religions are all just entanglements; bad and good are bound up with them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਸੁ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਸੁ ਧੰਧੁ ॥ mamataa mohu su bandhanaa putr kalatr su dhandh | Those things done for the sake of children and spouse, in ego and attachment, are just more bonds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥ jeh dekhaa teh jevaree maaeaa kaa sanabandh | Wherever I look, there I see the noose of attachment to Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਵਰਤਣਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਅੰਧੁ ॥੧॥ naanak sache naam bin varatan varatai andh |1| O Nanak, without the True Name, the world is engrossed in blind entanglements. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਅੰਧੇ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਤਾ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥ andhe chaanan taa theeai jaa satigur milai rajaae | The blind receive the Divine Light, when they merge with the Will of the True Guru. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੈ ਸਚਿ ਵਸੈ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ bandhan torrai sach vasai agiaan adheraa jaae | They break their bonds, and dwell in Truth, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ॥ sabh kichh dekhai tisai kaa jin keea tan saaj | They see that everything belongs to the One who created and fashioned the body. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਕੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਲਾਜ ॥੨॥ naanak saran karataar kee karataa raakhai laaj |2| Nanak seeks the Sanctuary of the Creator - the Creator preserves his honor. ||2|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਜਦਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਥਾਟੁ ਕੀਆ ਬਹਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਤਦਹੁ ਪੁਛਿ ਨ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਬੀਆ ॥ jadahu aape thaatt keea beh karatai tadahu puchh na sevak beea | When the Creator, sitting all by Himself, created the Universe, he did not consult with any of His servants; - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਦਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੇਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੀਆ ॥ tadahu kiaa ko levai kiaa ko devai jaan avar na doojaa keea | so what can anyone take, and what can anyone give, when He did not create any other like Himself? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਫਿਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਤੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥ fir aape jagat upaaeaa karatai daan sabhanaa kau deea | Then, after fashioning the world, the Creator blessed all with His blessings. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵ ਬਣਾਈਅਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥ aape sev banaaeean guramukh aape amrit peea | He Himself instructs us in His service, and as Gurmukh, we drink in His Ambrosial Nectar. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੈ ਸੁ ਥੀਆ ॥੭॥ aap nirankaar aakaar hai aape aape karai su theea |7| He Himself is formless, and He Himself is formed; whatever He Himself does, comes to pass. ||7|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਦ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ guramukh prabh seveh sad saachaa anadin sehaj piaar | The Gurmukhs serve God forever; night and day, they are steeped in the Love of the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਅਰਧਿ ਉਰਧਿ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ sadaa anand gaaveh gun saache aradh uradh ur dhaar | They are in bliss forever, singing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; in this world and in the next, they keep Him clasped to their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥ antar preetam vasiaa dhur karam likhiaa karataar | Their Beloved dwells deep within; the Creator pre-ordained this destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਆਪੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ naanak aap milaaeian aape kirapaa dhaar |1| O Nanak, He blends them into Himself; He Himself showers His Mercy upon them. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਹਿਐ ਕਥਿਐ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥ kahiai kathiai na paaeeai anadin rahai sadaa gun gaae | By merely talking and speaking, He is not found. Night and day, sing His Glorious Praises continually. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਭਉਕਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥ vin karamai kinai na paaeo bhauk mue bilalaae | Without His Merciful Grace, no one finds Him; many have died barking and bewailing. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭਿਜੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ gur kai sabad man tan bhijai aap vasai man aae | When the mind and body are saturated with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the Lord Himself comes to dwell in his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak nadaree paaeeai aape le milaae |2| O Nanak, by His Grace, He is found; He unites us in His Union. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਵੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਆਪਿ ਕਥੈ ਆਪਿ ਭੀਜੈ ॥ aape ved puraan sabh saasat aap kathai aap bheejai | He Himself is the Vedas, the Puraanas and all the Shaastras; He Himself chants them, and He Himself is pleased. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਪੂਜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥ aape hee beh pooje karataa aap parapanch kareejai | He Himself sits down to worship, and He Himself creates the world. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਪਰਵਿਰਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੀਜੈ ॥ aap paravirat aap niraviratee aape akath katheejai | He Himself is a householder, and He Himself is a renunciate; He Himself utters the Unutterable. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਵਰਤੀਜੈ ॥ aape pun sabh aap karaae aap alipat varateejai | He Himself is all goodness, and He Himself causes us to act; He Himself remains detached. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥੮॥ aape sukh dukh devai karataa aape bakhas kareejai |8| He Himself grants pleasure and pain; the Creator Himself bestows His gifts. ||8|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸੇਖਾ ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਜੋਰੁ ਛਡਿ ਤੂ ਭਉ ਕਰਿ ਝਲੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ sekhaa andarahu jor chhadd too bhau kar jhal gavaae | O Shaykh, abandon your cruel nature; live in the Fear of God and give up your madness. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਰੇ ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਪਾਇ ॥ gur kai bhai kete nisatare bhai vich nirbhau paae | Through the Fear of the Guru, many have been saved; in this fear, find the Fearless Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ man katthor sabad bhed toon saant vasai man aae | Pierce your stone heart with the Word of the Shabad; let peace and tranquility come to abide in your mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਂਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਸਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਪਾਏ ਥਾਇ ॥ saantee vich kaar kamaavanee saa khasam paae thaae | If good deeds are done in this state of peace, they are approved by the Lord and Master. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪੁਛਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak kaam krodh kinai na paaeo puchhahu giaanee jaae |1| O Nanak, through sexual desire and anger, no one has ever found God - go, and ask any wise man. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
