ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ anadin sahasaa kade na chookai bin sabadai dukh paae | Night and day, his doubts never stop; without the Word of the Shabad, he suffers in pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਨਿਤ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਏ ॥ kaam krodh lobh antar sabalaa nit dhandhaa karat vihaae | Sexual desire, anger and greed are so powerful within him; he passes his life constantly entangled in worldly affairs. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚਰਣ ਕਰ ਦੇਖਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਥਕੇ ਦਿਹ ਮੁਕੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਏ ॥ charan kar dekhat sun thake dih muke nerrai aae | His feet, hands, eyes and ears are exhausted; his days are numbered, and his death is immanent. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਮੀਠਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ sachaa naam na lago meetthaa jit naam nav nidh paae | The True Name does not seem sweet to him - the Name by which the nine treasures are obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਮਰੈ ਫੁਨਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਤਾਂ ਮੋਖੰਤਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ jeevat marai marai fun jeevai taan mokhantar paae | But if he remains dead while yet alive, then by so dying, he truly lives; thus, he attains liberation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਏ ॥ dhur karam na paaeo paraanee vin karamaa kiaa paae | But if he is not blessed with such pre-ordained karma, then without this karma, what can he obtain? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂ ਮੂੜੇ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur kaa sabad samaal too moorre gat mat sabade paae | Meditate in remembrance on the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, you fool; through the Shabad, you shall obtain salvation and wisdom. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਦ ਹੀ ਪਾਏ ਜਾਂ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੨॥ naanak satigur tad hee paae jaan vichahu aap gavaae |2| O Nanak, he alone finds the True Guru, who eliminates self-conceit from within. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਦੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਉ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਗਲੈ ਦਾ ਲੋੜੀਐ ॥ jis dai chit vasiaa meraa suaamee tis no kiau andesaa kisai galai daa lorreeai | One whose consciousness is filled with my Lord Master - why should he feel anxious about anything? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭਨਾ ਗਲਾ ਕਾ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਧਿਆਇਦਿਆ ਕਿਵ ਨਿਮਖ ਘੜੀ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੋੜੀਐ ॥ har sukhadaataa sabhanaa galaa kaa tis no dhiaaeidiaa kiv nimakh gharree muhu morreeai | The Lord is the Giver of Peace, the Lord of all things; why would we turn our faces away from His meditation, even for a moment, or an instant? - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਤ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਮੁਹੁ ਜੋੜੀਐ ॥ jin har dhiaaeaa tis no sarab kaliaan hoe nit sant janaa kee sangat jaae baheeai muhu jorreeai | One who meditates on the Lord obtains all pleasures and comforts; let us go each and every day, to sit in the Saints’ Society. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭਿ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਰੋਗ ਗਏ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੀਐ ॥ sabh dukh bhukh rog ge har sevak ke sabh jan ke bandhan torreeai | All the pain, hunger, and disease of the Lord’s servant are eradicated; the bonds of the humble beings are torn away. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਮੁਹਿ ਡਿਠੈ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਐ ॥੪॥ har kirapaa te hoaa har bhagat har bhagat janaa kai muhi dditthai jagat tariaa sabh lorreeai |4| By the Lord’s Grace, one becomes the Lord’s devotee; beholding the face of the Lord’s humble devotee, the whole world is saved and carried across. ||4|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਸਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਉ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ saa rasanaa jal jaau jin har kaa suaau na paaeaa | Let that tongue, which has not tasted the Name of the Lord, be burnt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ naanak rasanaa sabad rasaae jin har har man vasaaeaa |1| O Nanak, one whose mind is filled with the Name of the Lord, Har, Har - his tongue savors the Word of the Shabad. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਾ ਰਸਨਾ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ saa rasanaa jal jaau jin har kaa naau visaariaa | Let that tongue, which has forgotten the Name of the Lord, be burnt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥੨॥ naanak guramukh rasanaa har japai har kai naae piaariaa |2| O Nanak, the tongue of the Gurmukh chants the Lord’s Name, and loves the Name of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ har aape tthaakur sevak bhagat har aape kare karaae | The Lord Himself is the Master, the servant and the devotee; the Lord Himself is the Cause of causes. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ har aape vekhai vigasai aape jit bhaavai tith laae | The Lord Himself beholds, and He Himself rejoices. As He wills, so does He enjoin us. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਨਾ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ har ikanaa maarag paae aape har ikanaa ujharr paae | The Lord places some on the Path, and the Lord leads others into the wilderness. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੁ ਤਪਾਵਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਚਲਤ ਸਬਾਏ ॥ har sachaa saahib sach tapaavas kar vekhai chalat sabaae | The Lord is the True Master; True is His justice. He arranges and beholds all His plays. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਕਹੈ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥੫॥ gur parasaad kahai jan naanak har sache ke gun gaae |5| By Guru’s Grace, servant Nanak speaks and sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. ||5|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਣਸੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਵੇਸੁ ॥ daravesee ko jaanasee viralaa ko daraves | How rare is the dervish, the Saintly renunciate, who understands renunciation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਧਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਧਿਗੁ ਵੇਸੁ ॥ je ghar ghar handtai mangadaa dhig jeevan dhig ves | Cursed is the life, and cursed are the clothes, of one who wanders around, begging from door to door. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਉ ॥ je aasaa andesaa taj rahai guramukh bhikhiaa naau | But, if he abandons hope and anxiety, and as Gurmukh receives the Name as his charity, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥੧॥ tis ke charan pakhaaleeeh naanak hau balihaarai jaau |1| then Nanak washes his feet, and is a sacrifice to him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਫਲੁ ਦੁਇ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਆਹਿ ॥ naanak taravar ek fal due pankheroo aaeh | O Nanak, the tree has one fruit, but two birds are perched upon it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਦੀਸਹੀ ਨਾ ਪਰ ਪੰਖੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥ aavat jaat na deesahee naa par pankhee taeh | They are not seen coming or going; these birds have no wings. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥ bahu rangee ras bhogiaa sabad rahai nirabaan | One enjoys so many pleasures, while the other, through the Word of the Shabad, remains in Nirvaanaa. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਫਲਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥੨॥ har ras fal raate naanakaa karam sachaa neesaan |2| Imbued with the subtle essence of the fruit of the Lord’s Name, O Nanak, the soul bears the True Insignia of God’s Grace. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਰਾਹਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਪੀਸਾਵੈ ॥ aape dharatee aape hai raahak aap jamaae peesaavai | He Himself is the field, and He Himself is the farmer. He Himself grows and grinds the corn. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਪਕਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਦੇਇ ਪਰੋਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਖਾਵੈ ॥ aap pakaavai aap bhaandde dee parosai aape hee beh khaavai | He Himself cooks it, He Himself puts the food in the dishes, and He Himself sits down to eat. - Guru Ramdas Ji
