ਰਾਜਨ ਕਿਉ ਸੋਇਆ ਤੂ ਨੀਦ ਭਰੇ ਜਾਗਤ ਕਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ raajan kiau soeaa too need bhare jaagat kat naahee raam | O king, why are you sleeping? Why don’t you wake up to reality? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੁ ਰੁਦਨੁ ਕੇਤੇ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ਰਾਮ ॥ maaeaa jhootth rudan kete bilalaahee raam | It is useless to cry and whine about Maya, but so many cry out and bewail. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਲਲਾਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ॥ bilalaeh kete mahaa mohan bin naam har ke sukh nahee | So many cry out for Maya, the great enticer, but without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਉਪਾਵ ਥਾਕੇ ਜਹ ਭਾਵਤ ਤਹ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ sehas siaanap upaav thaake jeh bhaavat teh jaahee | Thousands of clever tricks and efforts will not succeed. One goes wherever the Lord wills him to go. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬਤ੍ਰ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਆਹੀ ॥ aad ante madh pooran sarabatr ghatt ghatt aahee | In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, He is all-pervading everywhere; He is in each and every heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਵੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮੁ ਸੇ ਪਤਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੨॥ binavant naanak jin saadhasangam se pat setee ghar jaahee |2| Prays Nanak, those who join the Saadh Sangat go to the house of the Lord with honor. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਰਪਤਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਗ੍ਰਹਿਓ ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ narapat jaan grahio sevak siaane raam | O king of mortals, know that your palaces and wise servants shall be of no use in the end. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਪਰ ਵੀਛੁੜਣਾ ਮੋਹੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ sarapar veechhurranaa mohe pachhutaane raam | You shall certainly have to separate yourself from them, and their attachment shall make you feel regret. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਕਹਾ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ harichandauree dekh bhoolaa kahaa asathit paaeeai | Beholding the phantom city, you have gone astray; how can you now find stability? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਆਨ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ ॥ bin naam har ke aan rachanaa ahilaa janam gavaaeeai | Absorbed in things other than the Name of the Lord, this human life is wasted in vain. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਹ ਕਾਂਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਗਿਆਨੇ ॥ hau hau karat na trisan boojhai neh kaam pooran giaane | Indulging in egotistical actions, your thirst is not quenched. Your desires are not fulfilled, and you do not attain spiritual wisdom. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕੇਤਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੇ ॥੩॥ binavant naanak bin naam har ke ketiaa pachhutaane |3| Prays Nanak, without the Name of the Lord, so many have departed with regret. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਾਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੋ ਅਪਨਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ dhaar anugraho apanaa kar leenaa raam | Showering His blessings, the Lord has made me His own. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭੁਜਾ ਗਹਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੀਓ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ਦੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ bhujaa geh kaadt leeo saadhoo sang deenaa raam | Grasping me by the arm, He has pulled me out of the mud, and He has blessed me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਸਗਲ ਕਲਮਲ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥ saadhasangam har araadhe sagal kalamal dukh jale | Worshipping the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, all my sins and sufferings are burnt away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਦਾਨ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਸੇ ਚਲੇ ॥ mahaa dharam sudaan kiriaa sang terai se chale | This is the greatest religion, and the best act of charity; this alone shall go along with you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਸਨਾ ਅਰਾਧੈ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਭੀਨਾ ॥ rasanaa araadhai ek suaamee har naam man tan bheenaa | My tongue chants in adoration the Name of the One Lord and Master; my mind and body are drenched in the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਬੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥ naanak jis no har milaae so sarab gun parabeenaa |4|6|9| O Nanak, whoever the Lord unites with Himself, is filled with all virtues. ||4||6||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਹੋਰ ਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਭਾਲਿ ॥ gur sevaa te sukh paaeeai hor thai sukh na bhaal | Serving the Guru, peace is obtained; do not search for peace anywhere else. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਭੇਦੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਵਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ gur kai sabad man bhedeeai sadaa vasai har naal | The soul is pierced by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. The Lord dwells ever with the soul. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ naanak naam tinaa kau milai jin har vekhai nadar nihaal |1| O Nanak, they alone obtain the Naam, the Name of the Lord, who are blessed by the Lord with His Glance of Grace. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਖਜਾਨਾ ਬਖਸ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੈ ਸੋ ਖਰਚੈ ਖਾਇ ॥ sifat khajaanaa bakhas hai jis bakhasai so kharachai khaae | The treasure of the Lord’s Praise is such a blessed gift; he alone obtains it to spend, unto whom the Lord bestows it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਸਭ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ satigur bin hath na aavee sabh thake karam kamaae | Without the True Guru, it does not come to hand; all have grown weary of performing religious rituals. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਧਨਹੀਣੁ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਭੁਖਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥ naanak manamukh jagat dhanaheen hai agai bhukhaa ki khaae |2| O Nanak, the self-willed manmukhs of the world lack this wealth; when they are hungry in the next world, what will they have to eat there? ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਸਭਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੁਧੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ sabh teree too sabhas daa sabh tudh upaaeaa | All are Yours, and You belong to all. You created all. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੂ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਤੂ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ sabhanaa vich too varatadaa too sabhanee dhiaaeaa | You are pervading within all - all meditate on You. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਤੂ ਭਗਤਿ ਥਾਇ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ tis dee too bhagat thaae paaeihi jo tudh man bhaaeaa | You accept the devotional worship of those who are pleasing to Your Mind. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਥੀਐ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥ jo har prabh bhaavai so theeai sabh karan teraa karaaeaa | Whatever pleases the Lord God happens; all act as You cause them to act. - Guru Ramdas Ji
ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ salaahihu har sabhanaa te vaddaa jo sant janaan kee paij rakhadaa aaeaa |1| Praise the Lord, the greatest of all; He preserves the honor of the Saints. ||1|| - Guru Ramdas Ji

ਨਾਮੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ naame kaaraj sidh hai sahaje hoe su hoe | Through the Name, his affairs are brought to perfection; whatever happens is by His Will. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਅਚਲੁ ਹੈ ਚਲਾਇ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ guramat mat achal hai chalaae na sakai koe | Under Guru’s Instruction, his mind is held steady; no one can make him waver. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ bhagataa kaa har angeekaar kare kaaraj suhaavaa hoe | The Lord makes His devotee His own, and his affairs are adjusted. - Guru Amardas Ji
