ਆਵਣੁ ਤ ਜਾਣਾ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੇਦਨਿ ਸਿਰਜੀਆ ॥ aavan ta jaanaa tineh keea jin medan sirajeea | The One who fashioned the world causes them to come and go. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਕਨਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਫਿਰਦਿਆ ॥ eikanaa mel satigur mehal bulaae ik bharam bhoole firadiaa | Some meet the True Guru - the Lord invites them into the Mansion of His Presence; others wander around, deluded by doubt. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਤੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ ant teraa toonhai jaaneh toon sabh meh rahiaa samaae | You alone know Your limits; You are contained in all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਧਰਮ ਨਿਆਏ ॥੧॥ sach kahai naanak sunahu santahu har varatai dharam niaae |1| Nanak speaks the Truth: listen, Saints - the Lord dispenses even-handed justice. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਵਹੁ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ aavahu milahu saheleeho mere laal jeeo har har naam araadhe raam | Come and join me, O my beautiful dear beloveds; let’s worship the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸਾਧੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ kar sevahu pooraa satiguroo mere laal jeeo jam kaa maarag saadhe raam | Let’s serve the Perfect True Guru, O my dear beloveds, and clear away the Path of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਰਗੁ ਬਿਖੜਾ ਸਾਧਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ maarag bikharraa saadh guramukh har daragah sobhaa paaeeai | Having cleared the treacherous path, as Gurmukhs, we shall obtain honor in the Court of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਰੈਣਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈਐ ॥ jin kau bidhaatai dhurahu likhiaa tinaa rain din liv laaeeai | Those who have such pre-ordained destiny, lovingly focus their consciousness on the Lord, night and day. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਛੁਟਾ ਜਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਾਧੇ ॥ haumai mamataa mohu chhuttaa jaa sang miliaa saadhe | Self-conceit, egotism and emotional attachment are eradicated when one joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਹੋਆ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ॥੨॥ jan kahai naanak mukat hoaa har har naam araadhe |2| Says servant Nanak, one who contemplates the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is liberated. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੂਜੇਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ kar jorrihu sant ikatr hoe mere laal jeeo abinaasee purakh poojehaa raam | Let’s join hands, O Saints; let’s come together, O my dear beloveds, and worship the imperishable, Almighty Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਖੋਜੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪੇਹਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ bahu bidh poojaa khojeea mere laal jeeo ihu man tan sabh arapehaa raam | I sought Him through uncounted forms of adoration, O my dear beloveds; now, I dedicate my entire mind and body to the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਕੇਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਪੂਜ ਚੜਾਵਏ ॥ man tan dhan sabh prabhoo keraa kiaa ko pooj charraave | The mind, body and all wealth belong to God; so what can anyone offer to Him in worship? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵਏ ॥ jis hoe kripaal deaal suaamee so prabh ank samaave | He alone merges in the lap of God, unto whom the Merciful Lord Master becomes compassionate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਾਗੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹੋਇ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥ bhaag masatak hoe jis kai tis gur naal sanehaa | One who has such pre-ordained destiny written on his forehead, comes to bear love for the Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੂਜੇਹਾ ॥੩॥ jan kahai naanak mil saadhasangat har har naam poojehaa |3| Says servant Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, let’s worship the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਖੋਜਤ ਹਮ ਫਿਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਅੜਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ deh dis khojat ham fire mere laal jeeo har paaeiarraa ghar aae raam | I wandered around, searching in the ten directions, O my dear beloveds, but I came to find the Lord in the home of my own being. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਾਜਿਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥ har mandar har jeeo saajiaa mere laal jeeo har tis meh rahiaa samaae raam | The Dear Lord has fashioned the body as the temple of the Lord, O my dear beloveds; the Lord continues to dwell there. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬੇ ਸਮਾਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇਆ ॥ sarabe samaanaa aap suaamee guramukh paragatt hoeaa | The Lord and Master Himself is pervading everywhere; through the Guru, He is revealed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅਧੇਰਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਚੋਇਆ ॥ mittiaa adheraa dookh naatthaa amiau har ras choeaa | Darkness is dispelled, and pains are removed, when the sublime essence of the Lord’s Ambrosial Nectar trickles down. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹਾ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਏ ॥ jahaa dekhaa tahaa suaamee paarabraham sabh tthaae | Wherever I look, the Lord and Master is there. The Supreme Lord God is everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਅੜਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਏ ॥੪॥੧॥ jan kahai naanak satigur milaaeaa har paaeiarraa ghar aae |4|1| Says servant Nanak, meeting the True Guru, I have found the Lord, within the home of my own being. ||4||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨ ਮੋਹਨਾ ਘਟ ਸੋਹਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ at preetam man mohanaa ghatt sohanaa praan adhaaraa raam | He is dear to me; He fascinates my mind; He is the ornament of my heart, the support of the breath of life. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸੋਭਾ ਲਾਲ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਕੀ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ sundar sobhaa laal gopaal deaal kee apar apaaraa raam | The Glory of the Beloved, Merciful Lord of the Universe is beautiful; He is infinite and without limit. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਕੰਤ ਨਿਮਾਣੀਆ ॥ gopaal deaal gobind laalan milahu kant nimaaneea | O Compassionate Sustainer of the World, Beloved Lord of the Universe, please, join with Your humble soul-bride. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨੈਨ ਤਰਸਨ ਦਰਸ ਪਰਸਨ ਨਹ ਨੀਦ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ॥ nain tarasan daras parasan neh need rain vihaaneea | My eyes long for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan; the night passes, but I cannot sleep. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨ ਨਾਮ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਭਏ ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥ giaan anjan naam binjan bhe sagal seegaaraa | I have applied the healing ointment of spiritual wisdom to my eyes; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is my food. These are all my decorations. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਪਇਅੰਪੈ ਸੰਤ ਜੰਪੈ ਮੇਲਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ naanak peianpai sant janpai mel kant hamaaraa |1| Prays Nanak, let’s meditate on the Saint, that he may unite us with our Husband Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਖ ਉਲਾਹਨੇ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੈ ਰਾਮ ॥ laakh ulaahane mohi har jab lag neh milai raam | I endure thousands of reprimands, and still, my Lord has not met with me. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਉ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਨਹ ਚਲੈ ਰਾਮ ॥ milan kau krau upaav kichh hamaaraa neh chalai raam | I make the effort to meet with my Lord, but none of my efforts work. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਲ ਚਿਤ ਬਿਤ ਅਨਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧੀ ਨ ਧੀਜੀਐ ॥ chal chit bit anit pria bin kavan bidhee na dheejeeai | Unsteady is my consciousness, and unstable is my wealth; without my Lord, I cannot be consoled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
