ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ naanak guramukh ubare ji aap mele karataar |2| O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are saved; the Creator Lord unites them with Himself. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਦੇ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥ bhagat sachai dar sohade sachai sabad rahaae | The devotees look beauteous in the True Court of the Lord; they abide in the True Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਤਿਨ ਊਪਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਸਾਏ ॥ har kee preet tin aoopajee har prem kasaae | The Lord’s Love wells up in them; they are attracted by the Lord’s Love. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਿਆਏ ॥ har rang raheh sadaa rang raate rasanaa har ras piaae | They abide in the Lord’s Love, they remain imbued with the Lord’s Love forever, and with their tongues, they drink in the sublime essence of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਜਿਨੑੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ safal janam jinaee guramukh jaataa har jeeo ridai vasaae | Fruitful are the lives of those Gurmukhs who recognize the Lord and enshrine Him in their hearts. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਬਾਝੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਏ ॥੧੧॥ baajh guroo firai bilalaadee doojai bhaae khuaae |11| Without the Guru, they wander around crying out in misery; in the love of duality, they are ruined. ||11|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਖਟਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਉਤਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ kalijug meh naam nidhaan bhagatee khattiaa har utam pad paaeaa | In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the devotees earn the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; they obtain the supreme status of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ satigur sev har naam man vasaaeaa anadin naam dhiaaeaa | Serving the True Guru, they enshrine the Lord’s Name in their minds, and they meditate on the Naam, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਵਿਚੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਜਲਾਇਆ ॥ viche grih gur bachan udaasee haumai mohu jalaaeaa | Within the home of their own selves, they remain unattached, through the Guru’s Teachings; they burn away egotism and emotional attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਪਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਕੁਲ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਣੇਦੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ aap tariaa kul jagat taraaeaa dhan janedee maaeaa | They save themselves, and they save the whole world. Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੋਈ ਪਾਏ ਜਿਸੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ aisaa satigur soee paae jis dhur masatak har likh paaeaa | He alone finds such a True Guru, upon whose forehead the Lord inscribed such pre-ordained destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ jan naanak balihaaree gur aapane vittahu jin bhram bhulaa maarag paaeaa |1| Servant Nanak is a sacrifice to his Guru; when he was wandering in doubt, He placed him on the Path. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇਖਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੀਪਕਿ ਪਤੰਗ ਪਚਾਇਆ ॥ trai gun maaeaa vekh bhule jiau dekh deepak patang pachaaeaa | Beholding Maya with her three dispositions, he goes astray; he is like the moth, which sees the flame, and is consumed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਭੁਲਿ ਭੁਲਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਦਿਖਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਕਿਹੁ ਆਣਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥ panddit bhul bhul maaeaa vekheh dikhaa kinai kihu aan charraaeaa | The mistaken, deluded Pandits gaze upon Maya, and watch to see whether anyone has offered them something. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪੜਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਦਯਿ ਖੁਆਇਆ ॥ doojai bhaae parreh nit bikhiaa naavahu day khuaaeaa | In the love of duality, they read continually about sin, while the Lord has withheld His Name from them. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਭੁਲੇ ਓਨੑਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਬਹੁ ਗਰਬੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥ jogee jangam saniaasee bhule onaa ahankaar bahu garab vadhaaeaa | The Yogis, the wandering hermits and the Sannyaasees have gone astray; their egotism and arrogance have increased greatly. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਛਾਦਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਨ ਲੈਹੀ ਸਤ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਮਨਹਠਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ chhaadan bhojan na laihee sat bhikhiaa manahatth janam gavaaeaa | They do not accept the true donations of clothes and food, and their lives are ruined by their stubborn minds. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਤੜਿਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਮਧਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ etarriaa vichahu so jan samadhaa jin guramukh naam dhiaaeaa | Among these, he alone is a man of poise, who, as Gurmukh, meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ਜਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਭਿ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ jan naanak kis no aakh sunaaeeai jaa karade sabh karaaeaa |2| Unto whom should servant Nanak speak and complain? All act as the Lord causes them to act. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ paurree | Pauree: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ maaeaa mohu paret hai kaam krodh ahankaaraa | Emotional attachment to Maya, sexual desire, anger and egotism are demons. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਏਹ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਸਿਰਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਏਨੑਾ ਉਪਰਿ ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ ॥ eeh jam kee sirakaar hai enaa upar jam kaa ddandd karaaraa | Because of them, mortals are subject to death; above their heads hangs the heavy club of the Messenger of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਜਮ ਮਗਿ ਪਾਈਅਨਿੑ ਜਿਨੑ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ manamukh jam mag paaeeana jina doojaa bhaau piaaraa | The self-willed manmukhs, in love with duality, are led onto the path of Death. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਨਿ ਕੋ ਸੁਣੈ ਨ ਪੂਕਾਰਾ ॥ jam pur badhe maareean ko sunai na pookaaraa | In the City of Death, they are tied up and beaten, and no one hears their cries. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੧੨॥ jis no kripaa kare tis gur milai guramukh nisataaraa |12| One who is blessed by the Lord’s Grace meets the Guru; as Gurmukh, he is emancipated. ||12|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ salok mahalaa 3 | Salok, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਨੋ ਗਈ ਖਾਇ ॥ haumai mamataa mohanee manamukhaa no gee khaae | By egotism and pride, the self-willed manmukhs are enticed, and consumed. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜੋ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਵਿਆਪਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥ jo mohi doojai chit laaeide tinaa viaap rahee lapattaae | Those who center their consciousness on duality are caught in it, and remain stuck. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਰਜਾਲੀਐ ਤਾ ਏਹ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ gur kai sabad parajaaleeai taa eeh vichahu jaae | But when it is burnt away by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, only then does it depart from within. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਜਲਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ tan man hovai ujalaa naam vasai man aae | The body and mind become radiant and bright, and the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਮਾਰਣੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ naanak maaeaa kaa maaran har naam hai guramukh paaeaa jaae |1| O Nanak, the Lord’s Name is the antidote to Maya; the Gurmukh obtains it. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੇਤੜਿਆ ਜੁਗ ਭਰਮਿਆ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ eihu man ketarriaa jug bharamiaa thir rahai na aavai jaae | This mind has wandered through so many ages; it has not remained stable - it continues coming and going. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਹਰਿ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਭਰਮਾਇਅਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਉਪਾਇ ॥ har bhaanaa taa bharamaaeian kar parapanch khel upaae | When it is pleasing to the Lord’s Will, then He causes the soul to wander; He has set the world-drama in motion. - Guru Amardas Ji

ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ jaa har bakhase taa gur milai asathir rahai samaae | When the Lord forgives, then one meets the Guru, and becoming stable, he remains absorbed in the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
