ਜੈਸੀ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬੂੰਦ ਚਵੈ ਬਰਸੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ਮੇਹੁ ॥ jaisee chaatrik piaas khin khin boond chavai baras suhaave mehu | Like the song-bird, thirsting for the rain-drops, chirping each and every moment to the beautiful rain clouds. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਅਤਿ ਲਾਈਐ ਚਿਤੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥ har preet kareejai ihu man deejai at laaeeai chit muraaree | So love the Lord, and give to Him this mind of yours; totally focus your consciousness on the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੀਜੈ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ maan na keejai saran pareejai darasan kau balihaaree | Do not take pride in yourself, but seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, and make yourself a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨੇ ਮਿਲੁ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੇ ਧਨ ਦੇਦੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਨੇਹਾ ॥ gur suprasane mil naah vichhune dhan dedee saach sanehaa | When the Guru is totally pleased, the separated soul-bride is re-united with her Husband Lord; she sends the message of her true love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਅਨੰਤ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਨੇਹਾ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥੨॥ kahu naanak chhant anant tthaakur ke har siau keejai nehaa man aisaa nehu karehu |2| Says Nanak, chant the Hymns of the Infinite Lord Master; O my mind, love Him and enshrine such love for Him. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰ ਸਨੇਹੁ ਚਿਤਵੈ ਆਸ ਘਣੀ ਕਦਿ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ॥ chakavee soor sanehu chitavai aas ghanee kad dineear dekheeai | The chakvi bird is in love with the sun, and thinks of it constantly; her greatest longing is to behold the dawn. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਕਿਲ ਅੰਬ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਚਵੈ ਸੁਹਾਵੀਆ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਕੀਜੀਐ ॥ kokil anb pareet chavai suhaaveea man har rang keejeeai | The cuckoo is in love with the mango tree, and sings so sweetly. O my mind, love the Lord in this way. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਇਕ ਰਾਤੀ ਕੇ ਹਭਿ ਪਾਹੁਣਿਆ ॥ har preet kareejai maan na keejai ik raatee ke habh paahuniaa | Love the Lord, and do not take pride in yourself; everyone is a guest for a single night. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇਓ ਮੋਹੁ ਰਚਾਇਓ ਨਾਗੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥ ab kiaa rang laaeo mohu rachaaeo naage aavan jaavaniaa | Now, why are you entangled in pleasures, and engrossed in emotional attachment? Naked we come, and naked we go. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਿਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਰਣੀ ਪੜੀਐ ਚਰਣੀ ਅਬ ਟੂਟਸਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਜੁ ਕਿਤੀਐ ॥ thir saadhoo saranee parreeai charanee ab ttoottas mohu ju kiteeai | Seek the eternal Sanctuary of the Holy and fall at their feet, and the attachments which you feel shall depart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਇ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਕਬ ਦਿਨੀਅਰੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ॥੩॥ kahu naanak chhant deaal purakh ke man har laae pareet kab dineear dekheeai |3| Says Nanak, chant the Hymns of the Merciful Lord God, and enshrine love for the Lord, O my mind; otherwise, how will you come to behold the dawn? ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਸਿ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਨਾਦ ਸੁਣਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਹੀਉ ਡਿਵੈ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥ nis kurank jaise naad sun sravanee heeo ddivai man aisee preet keejai | Like the deer in the night, who hears the sound of the bell and gives his heart - O my mind, love the Lord in this way. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੈਸੀ ਤਰੁਣਿ ਭਤਾਰ ਉਰਝੀ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਲ ਦੀਜੈ ॥ jaisee tarun bhataar urajhee pireh sivai ihu man laal deejai | Like the wife, who is bound by love to her husband, and serves her beloved - like this, give your heart to the Beloved Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਲਾਲਹਿ ਦੀਜੈ ਭੋਗ ਕਰੀਜੈ ਹਭਿ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੇ ॥ man laaleh deejai bhog kareejai habh khuseea rang maane | Give your heart to your Beloved Lord, and enjoy His bed, and enjoy all pleasure and bliss. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਿਰੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਅਤਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਿਰਾਣੇ ॥ pir apanaa paaeaa rang laal banaaeaa at milio mitr chiraane | I have obtained my Husband Lord, and I am dyed in the deep crimson color of His Love; after such a long time, I have met my Friend. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਸਾਖੀ ਤਾ ਡਿਠਮੁ ਆਖੀ ਪਿਰ ਜੇਹਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ॥ gur theea saakhee taa ddittham aakhee pir jehaa avar na deesai | When the Guru became my advocate, then I saw the Lord with my eyes. No one else looks like my Beloved Husband Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੋਹਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਗਹੀਜੈ ਐਸੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥ kahu naanak chhant deaal mohan ke man har charan gaheejai aisee man preet keejai |4|1|4| Says Nanak, chant the Hymns of the merciful and fascinating Lord, O mind. ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਫਿਰਤੀ ਖੋਜਤੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਅਵਗਾਹਿ ॥ ban ban firatee khojatee haaree bahu avagaeh | From forest to forest, I wandered searching; I am so tired of taking baths at sacred shrines of pilgrimage. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੇਟੇ ਸਾਧ ਜਬ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ naanak bhette saadh jab har paaeaa man maeh |1| O Nanak, when I met the Holy Saint, I found the Lord within my mind. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕੋਟਿ ਅਰਾਧਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਪ ਜਪੇ ॥ brahame kott araadheh giaanee jaap jape | millions of Brahmas meditate and adore Him; the spiritual teachers meditate and chant His Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਪ ਤਾਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੋਧਨ ਬੰਦਨਾ ॥ jap taap sanjam kiriaa poojaa anik sodhan bandanaa | Through chanting, deep meditation, strict and austere self-discipline, religious rituals, sincere worship, endless purifications and humble salutations, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਗਵਨੁ ਬਸੁਧਾ ਤੀਰਥਹ ਮਜਨੁ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ॥ kar gavan basudhaa teerathah majan milan kau niranjanaa | wandering all over the earth and bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, people seek to meet the Pure Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਨੁਖ ਬਨੁ ਤਿਨੁ ਪਸੂ ਪੰਖੀ ਸਗਲ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਅਰਾਧਤੇ ॥ maanukh ban tin pasoo pankhee sagal tujheh araadhate | Mortals, forests, blades of grass, animals and birds all meditate on You. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਇਆਲ ਲਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਗਤੇ ॥੧॥ deaal laal gobind naanak mil saadhasangat hoe gate |1| The Merciful Beloved Lord, the Lord of the Universe is found; O Nanak, joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, salvation is attained. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਚਾਹਹਿ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਦਇਆਰ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰੁਚ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ chaaheh tujheh deaar man tan ruch apaar | yearn for You, O Merciful Lord; their minds and bodies are filled with infinite longing. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗਮ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਗਲ ਪੂਰਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਨੀ ॥ apaar agam gobind tthaakur sagal poorak prabh dhanee | The Lord Master, the Lord of the Universe, is infinite and unapproachable; God is the all-pervading Lord of all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਰ ਸਿਧ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਜਖ ਕਿੰਨਰ ਗੁਣ ਭਨੀ ॥ sur sidh gan gandharab dhiaaveh jakh kinar gun bhanee | The angels,the Siddhas,the beings of spiritual perfection,the heavenly heralds and celestial singers meditate on You. The Yakhsha demons,the guards of the divine treasures,and the Kinnars, the dancers of the god of wealth chant Your Glorious Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਦੇਵਾ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰ ॥ kott indr anek devaa japat suaamee jai jai kaar | Millions of Indras and countless gods and super-human beings meditate on the Lord Master and celebrate His Praises. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥ ਦਇਆਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥ anaath naath deaal naanak saadhasangat mil udhaar |2| The Merciful Lord is the Master of the masterless, O Nanak; joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is saved. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
