ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥ priau sehaj subhaaee chhodd na jaaee man laagaa rang majeetthaa | My Beloved shall not leave me to go anywhere - this is His natural way; my mind is imbued with the lasting color of the Lord’s Love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਧੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਮੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ har naanak bedhe charan kamal kichh aan na meetthaa |1| The Lotus Feet of the Lord have pierced Nanak’s mind, and now, nothing else seems sweet to him. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਲਿ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ jiau raatee jal maachhulee tiau raam ras maate raam raaje | Just like the fish which revels in water, I am intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, my Lord King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਜੀਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਭਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ gur poorai upadesiaa jeevan gat bhaate raam raaje | The Perfect Guru has instructed me, and blessed me with salvation in my life; I love the Lord, my King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਵਨ ਗਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਆਪਿ ਲੀਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਏ ॥ jeevan gat suaamee antarajaamee aap lee larr laae | The Lord Master, the Searcher of hearts, blesses me with salvation in my life; He Himself attaches me to His Love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਪਦਾਰਥੋ ਪਰਗਟੋ ਪੂਰਨੋ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਕਤਹੂ ਜਾਏ ॥ har ratan padaaratho paragatto poorano chhodd na katahoo jaae | The Lord is the treasure of jewels, the perfect manifestation; He shall not forsake us to go anywhere else. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਘਰੁ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਦਾਤੇ ॥ prabh sughar saroop sujaan suaamee taa kee mittai na daate | God, the Lord Master, is so accomplished, beauteous, and all-knowing; His gifts are never exhausted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੨॥ jal sang raatee maachhulee naanak har maate |2| As the fish is enraptured by the water, so is Nanak intoxicated by the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ chaatrik jaachai boond jiau har praan adhaaraa raam raaje | As the song-bird yearns for the rain-drop, the Lord, the Lord my King, is the Support of my breath of life. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਲੁ ਖਜੀਨਾ ਸੁਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਮੀਤ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ maal khajeenaa sut bhraat meet sabhahoon te piaaraa raam raaje | My Lord King is more beloved than all wealth, treasure, children, siblings and friends. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਰਾ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥ sabhahoon te piaaraa purakh niraaraa taa kee gat nahee jaaneeai | The absolute Lord, the Primal Being, is more beloved than all; His condition cannot be known. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਾਣੀਐ ॥ har saas giraas na bisarai kabahoon gurasabadee rang maaneeai | I shall never forget the Lord, for an instant, for a single breath; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, I enjoy His Love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੋ ਸੰਤ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨੋ ਜਪਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦੁਖ ਡਾਰਾ ॥ prabh purakh jagajeevano sant ras peevano jap bharam moh dukh ddaaraa | The Primal Lord God is the Life of the Universe; His Saints drink in the Lord’s sublime essence. Meditating on Him, doubts, attachments and pains are shaken off. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਾਚੈ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥੩॥ chaatrik jaachai boond jiau naanak har piaaraa |3| As the song-bird yearns for the rain-drop, so does Nanak love the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲੇ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਨੋਰਥੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ mile naraaein aapane maanoratho pooraa raam raaje | Meeting the Lord, my Lord King, my desires are fulfilled. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਢਾਠੀ ਭੀਤਿ ਭਰੰਮ ਕੀ ਭੇਟਤ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੂਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥ dtaatthee bheet bharam kee bhettat gur sooraa raam raaje | The walls of doubt have been torn down, meeting the Brave Guru, O Lord King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਏ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਾਏ ਸਭ ਨਿਧਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ pooran gur paae purab likhaae sabh nidh deen deaalaa | The Perfect Guru is obtained by perfect pre-ordained destiny; God is the Giver of all treasures - He is merciful to the meek. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥ aad madh ant prabh soee sundar gur gopaalaa | In the beginning, in the middle, and in the end, is God, the most beautiful Guru, the Sustainer of the World. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਾ ॥ sookh sehaj aanand ghanere patit paavan saadhoo dhooraa | The dust of the feet of the Holy purifies sinners, and brings great joy, bliss and ecstasy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨਰਾਇਣ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਾਨੋਰਥੋੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥ har mile naraaein naanakaa maanorathuo pooraa |4|1|3| The Lord, the Infinite Lord, has met with Nanak, and his desires are fulfilled. ||4||1||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਈ ਜਪਾਤ ॥ jaa kau bhe kripaal prabh har har seee japaat | Those beings, unto whom the Lord God shows His Mercy, meditate on the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਤਿਨੑ ਰਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਭੇਟਤ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਤ ॥੧॥ naanak preet lagee tina raam siau bhettat saadh sangaat |1| O Nanak, they embrace love for the Lord, meeting the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਲ ਦੁਧ ਨਿਆਈ ਰੀਤਿ ਅਬ ਦੁਧ ਆਚ ਨਹੀ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੇ ॥ jal dudh niaaee reet ab dudh aach nahee man aisee preet hare | Just like water, which loves milk so much that it will not let it burn - O my mind, so love the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਬ ਉਰਝਿਓ ਅਲਿ ਕਮਲੇਹ ਬਾਸਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰੈ ॥ ab urajhio al kamaleh baasan maeh magan ik khin bhee naeh ttarai | The bumble bee becomes enticed by the lotus, intoxicated by its fragrance, and does not leave it, even for a moment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਟਰੀਐ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੀਐ ਸੀਗਾਰ ਹਭਿ ਰਸ ਅਰਪੀਐ ॥ khin naeh ttareeai preet hareeai seegaar habh ras arapeeai | Do not let up your love for the Lord, even for an instant; dedicate all your decorations and pleasures to Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਦੂਖੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ਭਣੀਐ ਤਹ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਡਰਪੀਐ ॥ jeh dookh suneeai jam panth bhaneeai teh saadhasang na ddarapeeai | Where painful cries are heard, and the Way of Death is shown, there, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall not be afraid. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣੀਐ ਸਗਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਦੁਖ ਹਰੇ ॥ kar keerat govind guneeai sagal praachhat dukh hare | Sing the Kirtan, the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and all sins and sorrows shall depart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਛੰਤ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਐਸੀ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ kahu naanak chhant govind har ke man har siau nehu karehu aisee man preet hare |1| Says Nanak, chant the Hymns of the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, O mind, and enshrine love for the Lord; love the Lord this way in your mind. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੈਸੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭੀ ਨਾ ਧੀਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਰੇਹੁ ॥ jaisee machhulee neer ik khin bhee naa dheere man aisaa nehu karehu | As the fish loves the water, and is not content even for an instant outside it, O my mind, love the Lord in this way. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
