ਕਰਿ ਮਜਨੋ ਸਪਤ ਸਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ kar majano sapat sare man niramal mere raam | Take your bath in the seven seas, O my mind, and become pure. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਲਿ ਨੑਾਏ ਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਏ ਪੰਚ ਮਿਲੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ niramal jal naae jaa prabh bhaae panch mile veechaare | One bathes in the water of purity when it is pleasing to God, and obtains the five virtues by reflective meditation. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਤਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ kaam karodh kapatt bikhiaa taj sach naam ur dhaare | Renouncing sexual desire, anger, deceit and corruption, he enshrines the True Name in his heart. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਲੋਭ ਲਹਰਿ ਲਬ ਥਾਕੇ ਪਾਏ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥ haumai lobh lehar lab thaake paae deen deaalaa | When the waves of ego, greed and avarice subside, he finds the Lord Master, Merciful to the meek. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਤੀਰਥੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਪਾਲਾ ॥੩॥ naanak gur samaan teerath nahee koee saache gur gopaalaa |3| O Nanak, there is no place of pilgrimage comparable to the Guru; the True Guru is the Lord of the world. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਬਨੁ ਬਨੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਰਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ hau ban bano dekh rahee trin dekh sabaaeaa raam | I have searched the jungles and forests, and looked upon all the fields. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੋ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਰਾਮ ॥ tribhavano tujheh keea sabh jagat sabaaeaa raam | You created the three worlds, the entire universe, everything. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੀਆ ਤੂੰ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ teraa sabh keea toon thir theea tudh samaan ko naahee | You created everything; You alone are permanent. Nothing is equal to You. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥ toon daataa sabh jaachik tere tudh bin kis saalaahee | You are the Giver - all are Your beggars; without You, who should we praise? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਣਮੰਗਿਆ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਦਾਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥ anamangiaa daan deejai daate teree bhagat bhare bhanddaaraa | You bestow Your gifts, even when we do not ask for them, O Great Giver; devotion to You is a treasure over-flowing. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥ raam naam bin mukat na hoee naanak kahai veechaaraa |4|2| Without the Lord’s Name, there is no liberation; so says Nanak, the meek. ||4||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ meraa mano meraa man raataa raam piaare raam | My mind, my mind is attuned to the Love of my Beloved Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੋ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੋ ਧਾਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ sach saahibo aad purakh aparanparo dhaare raam | The True Lord Master, the Primal Being, the Infinite One, is the Support of the earth. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੋ ॥ agam agochar apar apaaraa paarabraham paradhaano | He is unfathomable, unapproachable, infinite and incomparable. He is the Supreme Lord God, the Lord above all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਸਭੁ ਮਾਨੋ ॥ aad jugaadee hai bhee hosee avar jhootthaa sabh maano | He is the Lord, from the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore; know that all else is false. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ karam dharam kee saar na jaanai surat mukat kiau paaeeai | If one does not appreciate the value of good deeds and Dharmic faith, how can one obtain clarity of consciousness and liberation? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥ naanak guramukh sabad pachhaanai ahinis naam dhiaaeeai |1| O Nanak, the Gurmukh realizes the Word of the Shabad; night and day, he meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ meraa mano meraa man maaniaa naam sakhaaee raam | My mind, my mind has come to accept, that the Naam is our only Friend. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥ haumai mamataa maaeaa sang na jaaee raam | Egotism, worldly attachment, and the lures of Maya shall not go with you. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਤਾ ਪਿਤ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਰੇ ॥ maataa pit bhaaee sut chaturaaee sang na sanpai naare | Mother, father, famliy, children, cleverness, property and spouses - none of these shall go with you. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਚਰਣ ਤਲੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ॥ saaeir kee putree parahar tiaagee charan talai veechaare | I have renounced Maya, the daughter of the ocean; reflecting upon reality, I have trampled it under my feet. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਇਕੁ ਚਲਤੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਸੋਈ ॥ aad purakh ik chalat dikhaaeaa jeh dekhaa teh soee | The Primal Lord has revealed this wondrous show; wherever I look, there I see Him. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ naanak har kee bhagat na chhoddau sahaje hoe su hoee |2| O Nanak, I shall not forsake the Lord’s devotional worship; in the natural course, what shall be, shall be. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ meraa mano meraa man niramal saach samaale raam | My mind, my mind has become immaculately pure, contemplating the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੇ ਗੁਣ ਸੰਗਮ ਨਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥ avagan mett chale gun sangam naale raam | I have dispelled my vices, and now I walk in the company of the virtuous. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅਵਗਣ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੋ ॥ avagan parahar karanee saaree dar sachai sachiaaro | Discarding my vices, I do good deeds, and in the True Court, I am judged as true. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥ aavan jaavan tthaak rahaae guramukh tat veechaaro | My coming and going has come to an end; as Gurmukh, I reflect upon the nature of reality. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਮੀਤੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਸਖਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ saajan meet sujaan sakhaa toon sach milai vaddiaaee | O my Dear Friend, You are my all-knowing companion; grant me the glory of Your True Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥ naanak naam ratan paragaasiaa aisee guramat paaee |3| O Nanak, the jewel of the Naam has been revealed to me; such are the Teachings I have received from the Guru. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਅੰਜਨੋ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਰਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ sach anjano anjan saar niranjan raataa raam | I have carefully applied the healing ointment to my eyes, and I am attuned to the Immaculate Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ man tan rav rahiaa jagajeevano daataa raam | He is permeating my mind and body, the Life of the world, the Lord, the Great Giver. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ॥ jagajeevan daataa har man raataa sehaj milai melaaeaa | My mind is imbued with the Lord, the Great Giver, the Life of the world; I have merged and blended with Him, with intuitive ease. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਸਭਾ ਸੰਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ saadh sabhaa santaa kee sangat nadar prabhoo sukh paaeaa | In the Company of the Holy, and the Saints’ Society, by God’s Grace, peace is obtained. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਚੂਕੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥ har kee bhagat rate bairaagee chooke moh piaasaa | The renunciates remain absorbed in devotional worship to the Lord; they are rid of emotional attachment and desire. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਤੀਣੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੩॥ naanak haumai maar pateene virale daas udaasaa |4|3| O Nanak, how rare is that unattached servant, who conquers his ego, and remains pleased with the Lord. ||4||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
