ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭ ਸਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਪਾਸਾ ਢਾਲਣਿ ਆਪਿ ਲਗਾ ॥੨੬॥ jeea jant sabh saaree keete paasaa dtaalan aap lagaa |26| He made all beings and creatures his chessmen, and He Himself threw the dice. ||26|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਭੈ ਭਾਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਭਉ ਪਇਆ ॥ bhabhai bhaaleh se fal paaveh gur parasaadee jina kau bhau peaa | Bhabha: Those who search, find the fruits of their rewards; by Guru’s Grace, they live in the Fear of God. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਫੇਰੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੨੭॥ manamukh fireh na cheteh moorre lakh chauraaseeh fer peaa |27| The self-willed manmukhs wander around, and they do not remember the Lord; the fools are consigned to the cycle of 8.4 million incarnations. ||27|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮੰਮੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਤਬ ਚੇਤਵਿਆ ॥ mamai mohu maran madhusoodan maran bheaa tab chetaviaa | Mamma: In emotional attachment, he dies; he only thinks of the Lord, the Love of Nectar, when he dies. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਾਇਆ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਅਵਰੋ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੰਮਾ ਅਖਰੁ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੨੮॥ kaaeaa bheetar avaro parriaa mamaa akhar veesariaa |28| As long as the body is alive, he reads other things, and forgets the letter ‘m’, which stands for marnaa - death. ||28|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਯਯੈ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਕਦ ਹੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ yayai janam na hovee kad hee je kar sach pachhaanai | Yaya: He is never reincarnated again, if he recognizes the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਖੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੨੯॥ guramukh aakhai guramukh boojhai guramukh eko jaanai |29| The Gurmukh speaks, the Gurmukh understands, and the Gurmukh knows only the One Lord. ||29|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਰੈ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਜੰਤਾ ॥ raarai rav rahiaa sabh antar jete kee jantaa | Rarra: The Lord is contained among all; He created all beings. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਸਭ ਲਾਏ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੩੦॥ jant upaae dhandhai sabh laae karam hoaa tin naam leaa |30| Having created His beings, He has put them all to work; they alone remember the Naam, upon whom He bestows His Grace. ||30|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲਲੈ ਲਾਇ ਧੰਧੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਮੀਠਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ lalai laae dhandhai jin chhoddee meetthaa maaeaa mohu keea | Lalla: He has assigned people to their tasks, and made the love of Maya seem sweet to them. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਸਹਣਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਇਆ ॥੩੧॥ khaanaa peenaa sam kar sahanaa bhaanai taa kai hukam peaa |31| We eat and drink; we should endure equally whatever occurs, by His Will, by His Command. ||31|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵਵੈ ਵਾਸੁਦੇਉ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਵੇਖਣ ਕਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਵੇਸੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ vavai vaasudeo paramesar vekhan kau jin ves keea | Wawa: The all-pervading Transcendent Lord beholds the world; He created the form it wears. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵੇਖੈ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੩੨॥ vekhai chaakhai sabh kichh jaanai antar baahar rav rahiaa |32| He beholds, tastes, and knows everything; He is pervading and permeating inwardly and outwardly. ||32|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ੜਾੜੈ ਰਾੜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਜਿ ਅਮਰੁ ਹੋਆ ॥ rraarrai raarr kareh kiaa praanee tiseh dhiaavahu ji amar hoaa | Rarra: Why do you quarrel, O mortal? Meditate on the Imperishable Lord, - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ਓਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥੩੩॥ tiseh dhiaavahu sach samaavahu os vittahu kurabaan keea |33| and be absorbed into the True One. Become a sacrifice to Him. ||33|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਾਹੈ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੀਅ ਉਪਾਇ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਦੀਆ ॥ haahai hor na koee daataa jeea upaae jin rijak deea | Haha: There is no other Giver than Him; having created the creatures, He gives them nourishment. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਹੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੀਆ ॥੩੪॥ har naam dhiaavahu har naam samaavahu anadin laahaa har naam leea |34| Meditate on the Lord’s Name, be absorbed into the Lord’s Name, and night and day, reap the Profit of the Lord’s Name. ||34|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਇੜੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥ aaeirrai aap kare jin chhoddee jo kichh karanaa su kar rahiaa | Airaa: He Himself created the world; whatever He has to do, He continues to do. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਇਰ ਇਵ ਕਹਿਆ ॥੩੫॥੧॥ kare karaae sabh kichh jaanai naanak saaeir iv kahiaa |35|1| He acts, and causes others to act, and He knows everything; so says Nanak, the poet. ||35||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਅਯੋ ਅੰਙੈ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਆਇਆ ਕਾਖੈ ਘੰਙੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਭਇਆ ॥ ayo angai sabh jag aaeaa kaakhai ghangai kaal bheaa | Ayo, Angai: The whole world which was created - Kaahkai, Ghangai: It shall pass away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਰੀਰੀ ਲਲੀ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਪੜਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ reeree lalee paap kamaane parr avagan gun veesariaa |1| Reeree, Laalee: People commit sins, and falling into vice, forget virtue. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਐਸਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਪੜਿਆ ॥ man aisaa lekhaa toon kee parriaa | O mortal, why have you studied such an account, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੇਖਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ lekhaa denaa terai sir rahiaa |1| rahaau | which shall call you to answer for payment? ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਿਧੰਙਾਇਐ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨੰਨੈ ਨਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ॥ sidhangaaeiai simareh naahee nanai naa tudh naam leaa | Sidhan, Ngaayiyai: You do not remember the Lord. Nanna: You do not take the Lord’s Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਛਛੈ ਛੀਜਹਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਮੂੜੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਜਮਿ ਪਾਕੜਿਆ ॥੨॥ chhachhai chheejeh ahinis moorre kiau chhootteh jam paakarriaa |2| Chhachha: You are wearing away, every night and day; you fool, how will you find release? You are held in the grip of death. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਬੈ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਆ ॥ babai boojheh naahee moorre bharam bhule teraa janam geaa | Babba: You do not understand, you fool; deluded by doubt, you are wasting your life. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਇਓ ਪਾਧਾ ਅਵਰਾ ਕਾ ਭਾਰੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਲਇਆ ॥੩॥ anahodaa naau dharaaeo paadhaa avaraa kaa bhaar tudh leaa |3| Without justification, you call yourself a teacher; thus you take on the loads of others. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਜੈ ਜੋਤਿ ਹਿਰਿ ਲਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿਗਾ ॥ jajai jot hir lee teree moorre ant geaa pachhutaavahigaa | Jajja: You have been robbed of your Light, you fool; in the end, you shall have to depart, and you shall regret and repent. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਚੀਨਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੂਨੀ ਆਵਹਿਗਾ ॥੪॥ ek sabad toon cheeneh naahee fir fir joonee aavahigaa |4| You have not remembered the One Word of the Shabad, and so you shall have to enter the womb over and over again. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੁਧੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੋ ਪੜੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਅਵਰਾ ਨੋ ਨ ਸਿਖਾਲਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ॥ tudh sir likhiaa so parr panddit avaraa no na sikhaal bikhiaa | Read that which is written on your forehead, O Pandit, and do not teach wickedness to others. - Guru Amardas Ji
