ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ sahaje naam dhiaaeeai giaan paragatt hoe |1| Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with intuitive ease and poise, spiritual wisdom is revealed. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏ ਮਨ ਮਤ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਵੇਖੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ e man mat jaaneh har door hai sadaa vekh hadoor | O my mind, do not think of the Lord as being far away; behold Him ever close at hand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਸਦ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sad sunadaa sad vekhadaa sabad rahiaa bharapoor |1| rahaau | He is always listening, and always watching over us; the Word of His Shabad is all-pervading everywhere. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ guramukh aap pachhaaniaa tinaee ik man dhiaaeaa | The Gurmukhs understand their own selves; they meditate single-mindedly on the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਰਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ sadaa raveh pir aapanaa sachai naam sukh paaeaa |2| They enjoy their Husband Lord continually; through the True Name, they find peace. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏ ਮਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ e man teraa ko nahee kar vekh sabad veechaar | O my mind, no one belongs to you; contemplate the Shabad, and see this. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਭਜਿ ਪਉ ਪਾਇਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੩॥ har saranaaee bhaj pau paaeihi mokh duaar |3| So run to the Lord’s Sanctuary, and find the gate of salvation. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਸਚਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥ sabad suneeai sabad bujheeai sach rahai liv laae | Listen to the Shabad, and understand the Shabad, and lovingly focus your consciousness on the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਸਚੈ ਮਹਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੪॥ sabade haumai maareeai sachai mehal sukh paae |4| Through the Shabad, conquer your ego, and in the True Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, you shall find peace. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੋਭ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ eis jug meh sobhaa naam kee bin naavai sobh na hoe | In this age, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory; without the Name, there is no glory. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਚਾਰਿ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਜਾਦੀ ਬਿਲਮੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ eih maaeaa kee sobhaa chaar dihaarre jaadee bilam na hoe |5| The glory of this Maya lasts for only a few days; it disappears in an instant. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਮੁਏ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ jinee naam visaariaa se mue mar jaeh | Those who forget the Naam are already dead, and they continue dying. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਸਾਦੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੬॥ har ras saad na aaeo bisattaa maeh samaeh |6| They do not enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord’s taste; they sink into the manure. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ॥ eik aape bakhas milaaeian anadin naame laae | Some are forgiven by the Lord; He unites them with Himself, and keeps them attached to the Naam, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਹਹਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੭॥ sach kamaaveh sach raheh sache sach samaeh |7| They practice Truth, and abide in Truth; being truthful, they merge into Truth. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਜਗੁ ਬੋਲਾ ਅੰਨੑਾ ਭਰਮਾਇ ॥ bin sabadai suneeai na dekheeai jag bolaa anaa bharamaae | Without the Shabad, the world does not hear, and does not see; deaf and blind, it wanders around. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੮॥ bin naavai dukh paaeisee naam milai tisai rajaae |8| Without the Naam, it obtains only misery; the Naam is received only by His Will. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ jin baanee siau chit laaeaa se jan niramal paravaan | Those persons who link their consciousness with the Word of His Bani, are immaculately pure, and approved by the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੇ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੯॥੧੩॥੩੫॥ naanak naam tinaa kade na veesarai se dar sache jaan |9|13|35| O Nanak, they never forget the Naam, and in the Court of the Lord, they are known as true. ||9||13||35|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਬਦੌ ਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਜਿਨੑ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ sabadau hee bhagat jaapade jina kee baanee sachee hoe | Through the Word of the Shabad, the devotees are known; their words are true. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਾਉ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਸਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ vichahu aap geaa naau maniaa sach milaavaa hoe |1| They eradicate ego from within themselves; they surrender to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and meet with the True One. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ har har naam jan kee pat hoe | Through the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, His humble servants obtain honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਫਲੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਕਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨੑ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ safal tinaa kaa janam hai tina maanai sabh koe |1| rahaau | How blessed is their coming into the world! Everyone adores them. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ haumai meraa jaat hai at krodh abhimaan | Ego, self-centeredness, excessive anger and pride are the lot of mankind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ sabad marai taa jaat jaae jotee jot milai bhagavaan |2| If one dies in the Word of the Shabad, then he is rid of this, and his light is merged into the Light of the Lord God. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਸਫਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥ pooraa satigur bhettiaa safal janam hamaaraa | Meeting with the Perfect True Guru, my life has been blessed. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਵੈ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਰੇ ਅਖੁਟ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ naam navai nidh paaeaa bhare akhutt bhanddaaraa |3| I have obtained the nine treasures of the Naam, and my storehouse is inexhaustible, filled to overflowing. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਹਿ ਇਸੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀਏ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥ aaveh is raasee ke vaapaaree jinaa naam piaaraa | Those who love the Naam come as dealers in the merchandise of the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ guramukh hovai so dhan paae tinaa antar sabad veechaaraa |4| Those who become Gurmukh obtain this wealth; deep within, they contemplate the Shabad. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੑੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥ bhagatee saar na jaananaee manamukh ahankaaree | The egotistical, self-willed manmukhs do not appreciate the value of devotional worship. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧੁਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜੂਐ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੫॥ dhurahu aap khuaaeian jooai baajee haaree |5| The Primal Lord Himself has beguiled them; they lose their lives in the gamble. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥ bin piaarai bhagat na hovee naa sukh hoe sareer | Without loving affection, devotional worship is not possible, and the body cannot be at peace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਗਤੀ ਮਨ ਧੀਰਿ ॥੬॥ prem padaarath paaeeai gur bhagatee man dheer |6| The wealth of love is obtained from the Guru; through devotion, the mind becomes steady. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਏ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ jis no bhagat karaae so kare gurasabad veechaar | He alone performs devotional worship, whom the Lord so blesses; he contemplates the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੭॥ hiradai eko naam vasai haumai dubidhaa maar |7| The One Name abides in his heart, and he conquers his ego and duality. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਏਕੋੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ bhagataa kee jat pat ekuo naam hai aape le savaar | The One Name is the social status and honor of the devotees; the Lord Himself adorns them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੮॥ sadaa saranaaee tis kee jiau bhaavai tiau kaaraj saar |8| They remain forever in the Protection of His Sanctuary. As it pleases His Will, He arranges their affairs. ||8|| - Guru Amardas Ji
