ਏ ਮਨ ਰੂੜੑੇ ਰੰਗੁਲੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਇ ॥ e man roorrae rangule toon sachaa rang charraae | O beauteous and joyful mind, imbue yourself with your true color. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਰੂੜੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਜੇ ਰਪੈ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ roorree baanee je rapai naa ihu rang lahai na jaae |1| rahaau | If you imbue yourself with the Beauteous Word of the Guru’s Bani, then this color shall never fade away. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਮੈਲੇ ਅਤਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥ ham neech maile at abhimaanee doojai bhaae vikaar | I am lowly, filthy, and totally egotistical; I am attached to the corruption of duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪਾਰਸਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਹੋਏ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੨॥ gur paaras miliai kanchan hoe niramal jot apaar |2| But meeting with the Guru, the Philosopher’s Stone, I am transformed into gold; I am blended with the Pure Light of the Infinite Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰੰਗੀਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਰੰਗੁ ਚੜਾਉ ॥ bin gur koe na rangeeai gur miliai rang charraau | Without the Guru, no one is imbued with the color of the Lord’s Love; meeting with the Guru, this color is applied. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਸਿਫਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਉ ॥੩॥ gur kai bhai bhaae jo rate sifatee sach samaau |3| Those who are imbued with the Fear, and the Love of the Guru, are absorbed in the Praise of the True Lord. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਲਗਈ ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ bhai bin laag na lagee naa man niramal hoe | Without fear, the cloth is not dyed, and the mind is not rendered pure. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਠਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੪॥ bin bhai karam kamaavane jhootthe tthaau na koe |4| Without fear, the performance of rituals is false, and one finds no place of rest. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਰੰਗੇ ਸੁ ਰਪਸੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ jis no aape range su rapasee satasangat milaae | Only those whom the Lord imbues, are so imbued; they join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੫॥ poore gur te satasangat aoopajai sahaje sach subhaae |5| From the Perfect Guru, the Sat Sangat emanates, and one easily merges into the Love of the True One. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਸਭਿ ਐਸੇ ਰਹਹਿ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਸੁ ਢੋਰ ॥ bin sangatee sabh aise raheh jaise pas dtor | Without the Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all remain like beasts and animals. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿੑ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੑੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਚੋਰ ॥੬॥ jina keete tisai na jaananaee bin naavai sabh chor |6| They do not know the One who created them; without the Name, all are thieves. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹਾਝਹਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਵਿਕਣਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ eik gun vihaajheh aaugan vikaneh gur kai sehaj subhaae | Some purchase merits and sell off their demerits; through the Guru, they obtain peace and poise. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਵੁਠਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇ ॥੭॥ gur sevaa te naau paaeaa vutthaa andar aae |7| Serving the Guru, they obtain the Name, which comes to dwell deep within. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਇ ॥ sabhanaa kaa daataa ek hai sir dhandhai laae | The One Lord is the Giver of all; He assigns tasks to each and every person. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਇ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਸਬਦੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੮॥੯॥੩੧॥ naanak naame laae savaarian sabade le milaae |8|9|31| O Nanak, the Lord embellishes us with the Name; attached to the Word of the Shabad, we are merged into Him. ||8||9||31|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਭ ਨਾਵੈ ਨੋ ਲੋਚਦੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਏ ॥ sabh naavai no lochadee jis kripaa kare so paae | Everyone longs for the Name, but he alone receives it, unto whom the Lord shows His Mercy. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥੧॥ bin naavai sabh dukh hai sukh tis jis man vasaae |1| Without the Name, there is only pain; he alone obtains peace, whose mind is filled with the Name. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ toon beant deaal hai teree saranaaee | You are infinite and merciful; I seek Your Sanctuary. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur poore te paaeeai naame vaddiaaee |1| rahaau | From the Perfect Guru, the glorious greatness of the Naam is obtained. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥ antar baahar ek hai bahu bidh srisatt upaaee | Inwardly and outwardly, there is only the One Lord. He has created the world, with its many varieties. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਿਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥ hukame kaar karaaeidaa doojaa kis kaheeai bhaaee |2| According to the Order of His Will, He makes us act. What else can we talk about, O Siblings of Destiny? ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬੁਝਣਾ ਅਬੁਝਣਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਕੀਆ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ॥ bujhanaa abujhanaa tudh keea ih teree sir kaar | Knowledge and ignorance are all your making; You have control over these. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਨੑਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੇ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥੩॥ eikanaa bakhasihi mel laihi ik daragah maar kadte koorriaar |3| Some, You forgive, and unite with Yourself; while others, the wicked, you strike down and drive out of Your Court. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਵਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਹਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ eik dhur pavit paavan heh tudh naame laae | Some, from the very beginning, are pure and pious; You attach them to Your Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੪॥ gur sevaa te sukh aoopajai sachai sabad bujhaae |4| Serving the Guru, peace wells up; through the True Word of the Shabad, one comes to understand. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕਿ ਕੁਚਲ ਕੁਚੀਲ ਵਿਖਲੀ ਪਤੇ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਏ ॥ eik kuchal kucheel vikhalee pate naavahu aap khuaae | Some are crooked, filthy and vicious; the Lord Himself has led them astray from the Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾ ਓਨ ਸਿਧਿ ਨ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਨ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਉਤਵਤਾਏ ॥੫॥ naa on sidh na budh hai na sanjamee fireh utavataae |5| They have no intuition, no understanding and no self-discipline; they wander around delirious. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਭਾਵਨੀ ਲਾਏ ॥ nadar kare jis aapanee tis no bhaavanee laae | He grants faith to those whom He has blessed with His Glance of Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਇਹ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੬॥ sat santokh ih sanjamee man niramal sabad sunaae |6| This mind finds truth, contentment and self-discipline, hearing the Immaculate Word of the Shabad. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਲੇਖਾ ਪੜਿ ਨ ਪਹੂਚੀਐ ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ lekhaa parr na pahoocheeai kath kahanai ant na paae | By reading books, one cannot reach Him; by speaking and talking, His limits cannot be found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥ gur te keemat paaeeai sach sabad sojhee paae |7| Through the Guru, His value is found; through the True Word of the Shabad, understanding is obtained. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਸੋਧਿ ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ eihu man dehee sodh toon gur sabad veechaar | So reform this mind and body, by contemplating the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਸੁ ਦੇਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੧੦॥੩੨॥ naanak is dehee vich naam nidhaan hai paaeeai gur kai het apaar |8|10|32| O Nanak, within this body is the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it is found through the Love of the Infinite Guru. ||8||10||32|| - Guru Amardas Ji
