ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 3 | Aasaa, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਸਾਦੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਾਈ ॥ aapai aap pachhaaniaa saad meetthaa bhaaee | Those who recognize their own selves, enjoy the sweet flavor, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਚਾਖਿਐ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਸਾਚੋ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ har ras chaakhiai mukat bhe jinaa saacho bhaaee |1| Those who drink in the sublime essence of the Lord are emancipated; they love the Truth. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਨਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥ har jeeo niramal niramalaa niramal man vaasaa | The Beloved Lord is the purest of the pure; He comes to dwell in the pure mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ guramatee saalaaheeai bikhiaa maeh udaasaa |1| rahaau | Praising the Lord, through the Guru’s Teachings, one remains unaffected by corruption. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਪਈ ਸਭ ਅੰਧੀ ਭਾਈ ॥ bin sabadai aap na jaapee sabh andhee bhaaee | Without the Word of the Shabad, they do not understand themselves -they are totally blind, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥ guramatee ghatt chaananaa naam ant sakhaaee |2| Through the Guru’s Teachings, the heart is illuminated, and in the end, only the Naam shall be your companion. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥ naame hee naam varatade naame varataaraa | They are occupied with the Naam, and only the Naam; they deal only in the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ antar naam mukh naam hai naame sabad veechaaraa |3| Deep within their hearts is the Naam; upon their lips is the Naam; they contemplate the Word of God, and the Naam. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ naam suneeai naam maneeai naame vaddiaaee | They listen to the Naam, believe in the Naam, and through the Naam, they obtain glory. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥ naam salaahe sadaa sadaa naame mehal paaee |4| They praise the Naam, forever and ever, and through the Naam, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥ naame hee ghatt chaananaa naame sobhaa paaee | Through the Naam, their hearts are illumined, and through the Naam, they obtain honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੫॥ naame hee sukh aoopajai naame saranaaee |5| Through the Naam, peace wells up; I seek the Sanctuary of the Naam. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ bin naavai koe na maneeai manamukh pat gavaaee | Without the Naam, no one is accepted; the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੬॥ jam pur baadhe maareeeh birathaa janam gavaaee |6| In the City of Death, they are tied down and beaten, and they lose their lives in vain. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੈ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ naamai kee sabh sevaa karai guramukh naam bujhaaee | Those Gurmukhs who realize the Naam, all serve the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਹੁ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥ naamahu hee naam maneeai naame vaddiaaee |7| So believe in the Naam, and only the Naam; through the Naam, glorious greatness is obtained. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ jis no devai tis milai guramatee naam bujhaaee | He alone receives it, unto whom it is given. Through the Guru’s Teachings, the Naam is realized. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੭॥੨੯॥ naanak sabh kichh naavai kai vas hai poorai bhaag ko paaee |8|7|29| O Nanak, everything is under the influence of the Naam; by perfect good destiny, a few obtain it. ||8||7||29|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੑੀ ਨ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਉ ॥ dohaaganee mehal na paaeinaee na jaanan pir kaa suaau | The deserted brides do not obtain the Mansion of their Husband’s Presence, nor do they know His taste. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਨਾ ਨਿਵਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥ fikaa boleh naa niveh doojaa bhaau suaau |1| They speak harsh words, and do not bow to Him; they are in love with another. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ॥ eihu manooaa kiau kar vas aavai | How can this mind come under control? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਠਾਕੀਐ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur parasaadee tthaakeeai giaan matee ghar aavai |1| rahaau | By Guru’s Grace, it is held in check; instructed in spiritual wisdom, it returns to its home. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੀਓਨੁ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ sohaaganee aap savaareeon laae prem piaar | He Himself adorns the happy soul-brides; they bear Him love and affection. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲਦੀਆ ਨਾਮੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ satigur kai bhaanai chaladeea naame sehaj seegaar |2| They live in harmony with the Sweet Will of the True Guru, naturally adorned with the Naam. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ sadaa raaveh pir aapanaa sachee sej subhaae | They enjoy their Beloved forever, and their bed is decorated with Truth. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮੋਹੀਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੩॥ pir kai prem moheea mil preetam sukh paae |3| They are fascinated with the Love of their Husband Lord; meeting their Beloved, they obtain peace. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਅਪਾਰੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥ giaan apaar seegaar hai sobhaavantee naar | Spiritual wisdom is the incomparable decoration of the happy soul-bride. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾ ਸਭਰਾਈ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੪॥ saa sabharaaee sundaree pir kai het piaar |4| She is so beautiful - she is the queen of all; she enjoys the love and affection of her Husband Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਸਚੈ ਅਲਖਿ ਅਪਾਰਿ ॥ sohaaganee vich rang rakhion sachai alakh apaar | The True Lord, the Unseen, the Infinite, has infused His Love among the happy soul-brides. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੫॥ satigur sevan aapanaa sachai bhaae piaar |5| They serve their True Guru, with true love and affection. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗੁਣ ਕਾ ਗਲਿ ਹਾਰੁ ॥ sohaaganee seegaar banaaeaa gun kaa gal haar | The happy soul-bride has adorned herself with the necklace of virtue. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਨਿ ਲਾਵਣਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੬॥ prem piramal tan laavanaa antar ratan veechaar |6| She applies the perfume of love to her body, and within her mind is the jewel of reflective meditation. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਊਤਮਾ ਜਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ bhagat rate se aootamaa jat pat sabade hoe | Those who are imbued with devotional worship are the most exalted. Their social standing and honor come from the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥ bin naavai sabh neech jaat hai bisattaa kaa keerraa hoe |7| Without the Naam, all are low class, like maggots in manure. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਦੀ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ hau hau karadee sabh firai bin sabadai hau na jaae | Everyone proclaims, “Me, me!”; but without the Shabad, the ego does not depart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਈ ਸਚੈ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੮॥੩੦॥ naanak naam rate tin haumai gee sachai rahe samaae |8|8|30| O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam lose their ego; they remain absorbed in the True Lord. ||8||8||30|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਐਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਪਦੇ ਆਗੈ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ aithai ghar ghar jaapade aagai jug jug paragatt hoe |1| Here, they are known in each and every home, and hereafter, they are famous throughout the ages. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
