ਆਪਣੈ ਹਥਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਏ ॥ aapanai hath vaddiaaeea de naame laae | Glory is in His Hands; He bestows His Name, and attaches us to it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਪਾਏ ॥੮॥੪॥੨੬॥ naanak naam nidhaan man vasiaa vaddiaaee paae |8|4|26| O Nanak, the treasure of the Naam abides within the mind, and glory is obtained. ||8||4||26|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ sun man man vasaae toon aape aae milai mere bhaaee | Listen, O mortal: enshrine His Name within your mind; He shall come to meet with you, O my Sibling of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ anadin sachee bhagat kar sachai chit laaee |1| Night and day, center your consciousness on true devotional worship of the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ eko naam dhiaae toon sukh paaveh mere bhaaee | Meditate on the One Naam, and you shall find peace, O my Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ haumai doojaa door kar vaddee vaddiaaee |1| rahaau | Eradicate egotism and duality, and your glory shall be glorious. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਸੁ ਭਗਤੀ ਨੋ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਚਦੇ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਾਈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eis bhagatee no sur nar mun jan lochade vin satigur paaee na jaae | The angels, humans and silent sages long for this devotional worship, but without the True Guru, it cannot be attained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਦੇ ਜੋਤਿਕੀ ਤਿਨ ਬੂਝ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ panddit parrade jotikee tin boojh na paae |2| The Pandits, the religious scholars, and the astrologers read their books, but they do not understand. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੈ ਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ aapai thai sabh rakhion kichh kehan na jaaee | He Himself keeps all in His Hand; nothing else can be said. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੩॥ aape dee su paaeeai gur boojh bujhaaee |3| Whatever He gives, is received. The Guru has imparted this understanding to me. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ jeea jant sabh tis de sabhanaa kaa soee | All beings and creatures are His; He belongs to all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖੀਐ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ mandaa kis no aakheeai je doojaa hoee |4| So who can we call bad, since there is no other? ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕੋ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਏਕਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰਾ ॥ eiko hukam varatadaa ekaa sir kaaraa | The Command of the One Lord is pervading throughout; duty to the One Lord is upon the heads of all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਭਵਾਲੀ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੫॥ aap bhavaalee diteean antar lobh vikaaraa |5| He Himself has led them astray, and placed greed and corruption within their hearts. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਕ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੀਤਿਅਨੁ ਬੂਝਨਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ eik aape guramukh keetian boojhan veechaaraa | He has sanctified those few Gurmukhs who understand Him, and reflect upon Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਭੀ ਓਨਾ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੀਅਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੬॥ bhagat bhee onaa no bakhaseean antar bhanddaaraa |6| He grants devotional worship to them, and within them is the treasure. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨੀਆ ਨੋ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ giaaneea no sabh sach hai sach sojhee hoee | The spiritual teachers know nothing but the Truth; they obtain true understanding. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਓਇ ਭੁਲਾਏ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੇ ਨ ਭੁਲਨੑੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੭॥ oe bhulaae kisai de na bhulanaee sach jaanan soee |7| They are led astray by Him, but they do not go astray, because they know the True Lord. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਪੰਚ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਪੰਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ ghar meh panch varatade panche veechaaree | Within the homes of their bodies, the five passions are pervading, but here, the five are well-behaved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਨੑੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੫॥੨੭॥ naanak bin satigur vas na aavanaee naam haumai maaree |8|5|27| O Nanak, without the True Guru, they are not overcome; through the Naam, the ego is conquered. ||8||5||27|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਵਥੁ ਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ gharai andar sabh vath hai baahar kichh naahee | Everything is within the home of your own self; there is nothing beyond it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ gur parasaadee paaeeai antar kapatt khulaahee |1| By Guru’s Grace, it is obtained, and the doors of the inner heart are opened wide. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਭਾਈ ॥ satigur te har paaeeai bhaaee | From the True Guru, the Lord’s Name is obtained, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਦਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ antar naam nidhaan hai poorai satigur deea dikhaaee |1| rahaau | The treasure of the Naam is within; the Perfect True Guru has shown this to me. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਗਾਹਕੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਲਏ ਪਾਏ ਰਤਨੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ har kaa gaahak hovai so le paae ratan veechaaraa | One who is a buyer of the Lord’s Name, finds it, and obtains the jewel of contemplation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਲੈ ਦਿਬ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ andar kholai dib disatt dekhai mukat bhanddaaraa |2| He opens the doors deep within, and through the Eyes of Divine Vision, beholds the treasure of liberation. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲ ਅਨੇਕ ਹਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੇ ਵਸੇਰਾ ॥ andar mehal anek heh jeeo kare vaseraa | There are so many mansions within the body; the soul dwells within them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਫੇਰਾ ॥੩॥ man chindiaa fal paaeisee fir hoe na feraa |3| He obtains the fruits of his mind’s desires, and he shall not have to go through reincarnation again. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਾਰਖੀਆ ਵਥੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਲਈ ਗੁਰ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ paarakheea vath samaal lee gur sojhee hoee | The appraisers cherish the commodity of the Name; they obtain understanding from the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਅਮੁਲੁ ਸਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੪॥ naam padaarath amul saa guramukh paavai koee |4| The wealth of the Naam is priceless; how few are the Gurmukhs who obtain it. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਾਹਰੁ ਭਾਲੇ ਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਲਹੈ ਵਥੁ ਘਰੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਭਾਈ ॥ baahar bhaale su kiaa lahai vath gharai andar bhaaee | Searching outwardly, what can anyone find? The commodity is deep within the home of the self, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥੫॥ bharame bhoolaa sabh jag firai manamukh pat gavaaee |5| The entire world is wandering around, deluded by doubt; the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਛੋਡੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਝੂਠਾ ਜਾਈ ॥ ghar dar chhodde aapanaa par ghar jhootthaa jaaee | The false one leaves his own hearth and home, and goes out to another’s home. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚੋਰੈ ਵਾਂਗੂ ਪਕੜੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਈ ॥੬॥ chorai vaangoo pakarreeai bin naavai chottaa khaaee |6| Like a thief, he is caught, and without the Naam, he is beaten and struck down. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੑੀ ਘਰੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਭਾਈ ॥ jinaee ghar jaataa aapanaa se sukhee bhaaee | Those who know their own home, are happy, O Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੭॥ antar braham pachhaaniaa gur kee vaddiaaee |7| They realize God within their own hearts, through the glorious greatness of the Guru. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖੀਐ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ aape daan kare kis aakheeai aape dee bujhaaee | He Himself gives gifts, and He Himself bestows understanding; unto whom can we complain? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂੰ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਈ ॥੮॥੬॥੨੮॥ naanak naam dhiaae toon dar sachai sobhaa paaee |8|6|28| O Nanak, meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and you shall obtain glory in the True Court. ||8||6||28|| - Guru Amardas Ji
