ਨਾਮੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ naame trisanaa agan bujhai naam milai tisai rajaaee |1| rahaau | Through the Naam, the fire of desire is extinguished; the Naam is obtained by His Will. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥ kal keerat sabad pachhaan | In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, realize the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ ehaa bhagat chookai abhimaan | By this devotional worship, egotism is eliminated. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥ satigur seviai hovai paravaan | Serving the True Guru, one becomes approved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਆਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ jin aasaa keetee tis no jaan |2| So know the One, who created hope and desire. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ tis kiaa deejai ji sabad sunaae | What shall we offer to one who proclaims the Word of the Shabad? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ kar kirapaa naam man vasaae | By His Grace, the Naam is enshrined within our minds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ eihu sir deejai aap gavaae | Offer your head, and shed your self-conceit. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ hukamai boojhe sadaa sukh paae |3| One who understands the Lord’s Command finds lasting peace. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥ aap kare tai aap karaae | He Himself does, and causes others to do. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ aape guramukh naam vasaae | He Himself enshrines His Name in the mind of the Gurmukh. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ aap bhulaavai aap maarag paae | He Himself misleads us, and He Himself puts us back on the Path. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥ sachai sabad sach samaae |4| Through the True Word of the Shabad, we merge into the True Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ sachaa sabad sachee hai baanee | True is the Shabad, and True is the Word of the Lord’s Bani. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ guramukh jug jug aakh vakhaanee | In each and every age, the Gurmukhs speak it and chant it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੋਲਾਣੀ ॥ manamukh mohi bharam bholaanee | The self-willed manmukhs are deluded by doubt and attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਉਰਾਣੀ ॥੫॥ bin naavai sabh firai bauraanee |5| Without the Name, everyone wanders around insane. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ teen bhavan meh ekaa maaeaa | Throughout the three worlds, is the one Maya. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੂਰਖਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥ moorakh parr parr doojaa bhaau drirraaeaa | The fool reads and reads, but holds tight to duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ bahu karam kamaavai dukh sabaaeaa | He performs all sorts of rituals, but still suffers terrible pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ satigur sev sadaa sukh paaeaa |6| Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ amrit meetthaa sabad veechaar | Reflective meditation upon the Shabad is such sweet nectar. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਗੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ anadin bhoge haumai maar | Night and day, one enjoys it, subduing his ego. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ sehaj anand kirapaa dhaar | When the Lord showers His Mercy, we enjoy celestial bliss. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੭॥ naam rate sadaa sach piaar |7| Imbued with the Naam, love the True Lord forever. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ har jap parreeai gurasabad veechaar | Meditate on the Lord, and read and reflect upon the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ har jap parreeai haumai maar | Subdue your ego and meditate on the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਭਇ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥ har japeeai bhe sach piaar | Meditate on the Lord, and be imbued with fear and love of the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥੨੫॥ naanak naam guramat ur dhaar |8|3|25| O Nanak, enshrine the Naam within your heart, through the Guru’s Teachings. ||8||3||25|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ gur te saant aoopajai jin trisanaa agan bujhaaee | Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ gur te naam paaeeai vaddee vaddiaaee |1| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ eko naam chet mere bhaaee | Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jagat jalandaa dekh kai bhaj pe saranaaee |1| rahaau | Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord’s Sanctuary. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ gur te giaan aoopajai mahaa tat beechaaraa | Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru; reflect upon the supreme essence of reality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥ gur te ghar dar paaeaa bhagatee bhare bhanddaaraa |2| Through the Guru, the Lord’s Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ guramukh naam dhiaaeeai boojhai veechaaraa | The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ guramukh bhagat salaah hai antar sabad apaaraa |3| The Gurmukh is the Lord’s devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ guramukh sookh aoopajai dukh kade na hoee | Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥ guramukh haumai maareeai man niramal hoee |4| The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥ satigur miliai aap geaa tribhavan sojhee paaee | Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥ niramal jot pasar rahee jotee jot milaaee |5| The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one’s light merges into the Light. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥ poorai gur samajhaaeaa mat aootam hoee | The Perfect Guru instructs, and one’s intellect becomes sublime. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥ antar seetal saant hoe naame sukh hoee |6| A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥ pooraa satigur taan milai jaan nadar kareee | One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥ kilavikh paap sabh katteeeh fir dukh bighan na hoee |7| All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
