ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਲਖਣੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥ taa ke roop na jaahee lakhane kiaa kar aakh veechaaree |2| His beauteous forms cannot be comprehended; what can anyone accomplish by discussing and debating? ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੀਨਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਜੁਗ ਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚਾਰੇ ਤੇਰੀਆ ਖਾਣੀ ॥ teen gunaa tere jug hee antar chaare tereea khaanee | Throughout the ages, You are the three qualities, and the four sources of creation. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਕਥੇ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ ॥੩॥ karam hovai taa param pad paaeeai kathe akath kahaanee |3| If You show Your Mercy, then one obtains the supreme status, and speaks the Unspoken Speech. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥ toon karataa keea sabh teraa kiaa ko kare paraanee | You are the Creator; all are created by You. What can any mortal being do? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਅਪਣੀ ਸਾਈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੪॥ jaa kau nadar kareh toon apanee saaee sach samaanee |4| He alone, upon whom You shower Your Grace, is absorbed into the Truth. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਲੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ naam teraa sabh koee let hai jetee aavan jaanee | Everyone who comes and goes chants Your Name. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੋਰ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਇਆਣੀ ॥੫॥ jaa tudh bhaavai taa guramukh boojhai hor manamukh firai eaanee |5| When it is pleasing to Your Will, then the Gurmukh understands. Otherwise, the self-willed manmukhs wander in ignorance. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਚਾਰੇ ਵੇਦ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਕਉ ਦੀਏ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ chaare ved brahame kau dee parr parr kare veechaaree | You gave the four Vedas to Brahma, for him to read and read continually, and reflect upon. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸੁਰਗਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥੬॥ taa kaa hukam na boojhai bapurraa narak surag avataaree |6| The wretched one does not understand His Command, and is reincarnated into heaven and hell. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗਹ ਕੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੀਏ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ॥ jugah jugah ke raaje kee gaaveh kar avataaree | In each and every age, He creates the kings, who are sung of as His Incarnations. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥ tin bhee ant na paaeaa taa kaa kiaa kar aakh veechaaree |7| Even they have not found His limits; what can I speak of and contemplate? ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਸਾਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ toon sachaa teraa keea sabh saachaa dehi ta saach vakhaanee | You are True, and all that You do is True. If You bless me with the Truth, I will speak on it. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਹਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੨੩॥ jaa kau sach bujhaaveh apanaa sahaje naam samaanee |8|1|23| One whom You inspire to understand the Truth, is easily absorbed into the Naam. ||8||1||23|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ satigur hamaraa bharam gavaaeaa | The True Guru has dispelled my doubts. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥ har naam niranjan man vasaaeaa | He has enshrined the Immaculate Name of the Lord within my mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ sabad cheen sadaa sukh paaeaa |1| Focusing on the Word of the Shabad, I have obtained lasting peace. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਤਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ sun man mere tat giaan | Listen, O my mind, to the essence of spiritual wisdom. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ devan vaalaa sabh bidh jaanai guramukh paaeeai naam nidhaan |1| rahaau | The Great Giver knows our condition completely; the Gurmukh obtains the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ satigur bhette kee vaddiaaee | The great glory of meeting the True Guru is - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨਿ ਮਮਤਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥ jin mamataa agan trisanaa bujhaaee | that it has quenched the fire of possessiveness and desire; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥ sahaje maataa har gun gaaee |2| imbued with peace and poise, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ vin gur poore koe na jaanee | Without the Perfect Guru, no one knows the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਣੀ ॥ maaeaa mohi doojai lobhaanee | Attached to Maya, they are engrossed in duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥੩॥ guramukh naam milai har baanee |3| The Gurmukh receives the Naam, and the Bani of the Lord’s Word. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਪਾਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਤਪੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥ gur sevaa tapaan sir tap saar | Service to the Guru is the most excellent and sublime penance of penances. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ har jeeo man vasai sabh dookh visaaranahaar | The Dear Lord dwells in the mind, and all suffering departs. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥੪॥ dar saachai deesai sachiaar |4| Then, at the Gate of the True Lord, one appears truthful. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur sevaa te tribhavan sojhee hoe | Serving the Guru, one comes to know the three worlds. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ aap pachhaan har paavai soe | Understanding his own self, he obtains the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ saachee baanee mehal paraapat hoe |5| Through the True Word of His Bani, we enter the Mansion of His Presence. ||5|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥ gur sevaa te sabh kul udhaare | Serving the Guru, all of one’s generations are saved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ ॥ niramal naam rakhai ur dhaare | Keep the Immaculate Naam enshrined within your heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੬॥ saachee sobhaa saach duaare |6| In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be adorned with True Glory. ||6|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਾਏ ॥ se vaddabhaagee ji gur sevaa laae | How very fortunate are they, who are committed to the Guru’s service. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ anadin bhagat sach naam drirraae | Night and day, they are engaged in devotional worship; the True Name is implanted within them. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਉਧਰੇ ਕੁਲ ਸਬਾਏ ॥੭॥ naame udhare kul sabaae |7| Through the Naam, all of one’s generations are saved. ||7|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ naanak saach kahai veechaar | Nanak chants the true thought. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ har kaa naam rakhahu ur dhaar | Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined within your heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥੮॥੨॥੨੪॥ har bhagatee raate mokh duaar |8|2|24| Imbued with devotion to the Lord, the gate of salvation is found. ||8||2||24|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਆਸਾ ਆਸ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ aasaa aas kare sabh koee | Everyone lives, hoping in hope. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ hukamai boojhai niraasaa hoee | Understanding His Command, one becomes free of desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੁਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਈ ॥ aasaa vich sute kee loee | So many are asleep in hope. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਾਗਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ so jaagai jaagaavai soee |1| He alone wakes up, whom the Lord awakens. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੁਝਾਇਆ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥ satigur naam bujhaaeaa vin naavai bhukh na jaaee | The True Guru has led me to understand the Naam, the Name of the Lord; without the Naam, hunger does not go away. - Guru Amardas Ji
