ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਾਣ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ jau lag jeeo paraan sach dhiaaeeai | As long as there is the breath of life, meditate on the True Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ laahaa har gun gaae milai sukh paaeeai |1| rahaau | You shall receive the profit of singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and find peace. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਾਰ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲ ਤੂੰ ॥ sachee teree kaar dehi deaal toon | True is Your Service; bless me with it, O Merciful Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਤੂੰ ॥੨॥ hau jeevaa tudh saalaeh mai ttek adhaar toon |2| I live by praising You; You are my Anchor and Support. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦਰਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਰਵਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਹੀ ॥ dar sevak daravaan darad toon jaanahee | I am Your servant, the gate-keeper at Your Gate; You alone know my pain. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੈਰਾਨੁ ਦਰਦੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੀ ॥੩॥ bhagat teree hairaan darad gavaavahee |3| How wonderful is Your devotional worship! It removes all pains. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਦਰਗਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਦੂਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਣਸੀ ॥ daragah naam hadoor guramukh jaanasee | The Gurmukhs know that by chanting the Naam, they shall dwell in His Court, in His Presence. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਸੀ ॥੪॥ velaa sach paravaan sabad pachhaanasee |4| True and acceptable is that time, when one recognizes the Word of the Shabad. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਉ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੇਇ ॥ sat santokh kar bhaau tosaa har naam see | Those who practice Truth, contentment and love, obtain the supplies of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਨਹੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਦੇਇ ॥੫॥ manahu chhodd vikaar sachaa sach dee |5| So banish corruption from your mind, and the True One will grant you Truth. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੇ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ sache sachaa nehu sachai laaeaa | The True Lord inspires true love in the truthful. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੬॥ aape kare niaau jo tis bhaaeaa |6| He Himself administers justice, as it pleases His Will. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਚੇ ਸਚੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੈ ॥ sache sachee daat dehi deaal hai | True is the gift of the True, Compassionate Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲੁ ਹੈ ॥੭॥ tis sevee din raat naam amol hai |7| Day and night, I serve the One whose Name is priceless. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੂੰ ਉਤਮੁ ਹਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਆ ॥ toon utam hau neech sevak kaandteea | You are so sublime, and I am so lowly, but I am called Your slave. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਹੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚੁ ਵਾਂਢੀਆ ॥੮॥੨੧॥ naanak nadar karehu milai sach vaandteea |8|21| Please, shower Nanak with Your Glance of Grace, that he, the separated one, may merge with You again, O Lord. ||8||21|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੈ ਕਿਉ ਮੇਲਾ ਹੋਈ ॥ aavan jaanaa kiau rahai kiau melaa hoee | How can coming and going, the cycle of reincarnation be ended? And how can one meet the Lord? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਣੋ ਨਿਤ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੋਈ ॥੧॥ janam maran kaa dukh ghano nit sahasaa doee |1| The pain of birth and death is so great, in constant skepticism and duality. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕਿਆ ਜੀਵਨਾ ਫਿਟੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥ bin naavai kiaa jeevanaa fitt dhrig chaturaaee | Without the Name, what is life? Cleverness is detestable and cursed. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ satigur saadh na seviaa har bhagat na bhaaee |1| rahaau | One who does not serve the Holy True Guru, is not pleased by devotion to the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਵਣੁ ਤਉ ਰਹੈ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ aavan jaavan tau rahai paaeeai gur pooraa | Coming and going is ended only when one finds the True Guru. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਦੇਇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੨॥ raam naam dhan raas dee binasai bhram kooraa |2| He gives the wealth and capital of the Lord’s Name, and false doubt is destroyed. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਏ ॥ sant janaa kau mil rahai dhan dhan jas gaae | Joining the humble Saintly beings, let us sing the blessed, blessed Praises of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ aad purakh aparanparaa guramukh har paae |3| The Primal Lord, the Infinite, is obtained by the Gurmukh. ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਟੂਐ ਸਾਂਗੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਬਾਜੀ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ nattooai saang banaaeaa baajee sansaaraa | The drama of the world is staged like the show of a buffoon. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਉਝਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੪॥ khin pal baajee dekheeai ujharat nahee baaraa |4| For an instant, for a moment, the show is seen, but it disappears in no time at all. ||4|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਉਮੈ ਚਉਪੜਿ ਖੇਲਣਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥ haumai chauparr khelanaa jhootthe ahankaaraa | The game of chance is played on the board of egotism, with the pieces of falsehood and ego. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹਾਰੈ ਸੋ ਜਿਣੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੫॥ sabh jag haarai so jinai gurasabad veechaaraa |5| The whole world loses; he alone wins, who reflects upon the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||5|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਟੋਹਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥ jiau andhulai hath ttohanee har naam hamaarai | As is the cane in the hand of the blind man, so is the Lord’s Name for me. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਉਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥੬॥ raam naam har ttek hai nis daut savaarai |6| The Lord’s Name is my Support, night and day and morning. ||6|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਉ ਰਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥ jiau toon raakheh tiau rahaa har naam adhaaraa | As You keep me, Lord, I live; the Lord’s Name is my only Support. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥ ant sakhaaee paaeaa jan mukat duaaraa |7| It is my only comfort in the end; the gate of salvation is found by His humble servants. ||7|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਮੇਟਿਆ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥ janam maran dukh mettiaa jap naam muraare | The pain of birth and death is removed, by chanting and meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਰੇ ॥੮॥੨੨॥ naanak naam na veesarai pooraa gur taare |8|22| O Nanak, one who does not forget the Naam, is saved by the Perfect Guru. ||8||22|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਾਸਤੁ ਬੇਦੁ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸੁਰਸਰੀ ਚਰਣ ਸਮਾਣੀ ॥ saasat bed sinmrit sar teraa surasaree charan samaanee | The Shaastras, the Vedas and the Simritees are contained in the ocean of Your Name; the River Ganges is held in Your Feet. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾਖਾ ਤੀਨਿ ਮੂਲੁ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਵੈ ਤੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੧॥ saakhaa teen mool mat raavai toon taan sarab viddaanee |1| The intellect can understand the world of the three modes, but You, O Primal Lord, are totally astounding. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਤੇਤੀਸ ਕਰੋੜੀ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੇ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥ tetees karorree daas tumaare ridh sidh praan adhaaree | Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. You bestow wealth, and the supernatural powers of the Siddhas; You are the Support of the breath of life. - Guru Amardas Ji
