ਜੈਸੇ ਮੀਠੈ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੋਭਾਏ ਝੂਠ ਧੰਧਿ ਦੁਰਗਾਧੇ ॥੨॥ jaise meetthai saad lobhaae jhootth dhandh duragaadhe |2| The sweet flavors tempt you, and you are occupied by your false and filthy business. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਅਰੁ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਇਹ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਰਸਿ ਲਪਟਾਧੇ ॥ kaam krodh ar lobh moh ih indree ras lapattaadhe | Your senses are beguiled by sensual pleasures of sex, by anger, greed and emotional attachment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੀਈ ਭਵਾਰੀ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਬਿਧਾਤੈ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਜਨਮਾਧੇ ॥੩॥ deeee bhavaaree purakh bidhaatai bahur bahur janamaadhe |3| The All-powerful Architect of Destiny has ordained that you shall be reincarnated over and over again. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਉ ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਤਉ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਲਾਧੇ ॥ jau bheo kripaal deen dukh bhanjan tau gur mil sabh sukh laadhe | When the Destroyer of the pains of the poor becomes merciful, then, as Gurmukh, you shall find absolute peace. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਉ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਾਢੀ ਸਗਲ ਉਪਾਧੇ ॥੪॥ kahu naanak din rain dhiaavau maar kaadtee sagal upaadhe |4| Says Nanak, meditate on the Lord, day and night, and all your sickness shall be banished. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਉ ਜਪਿਓ ਭਾਈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥ eiau japio bhaaee purakh bidhaate | Meditate in this way, O Siblings of Destiny, on the Lord, the Architect of Destiny. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੨੬॥ bheo kripaal deen dukh bhanjan janam maran dukh laathe |1| rahaau doojaa |4|4|126| The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful; He has removed the pains of birth and death. ||1||Second Pause||4||4||126|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨਿਮਖ ਕਾਮ ਸੁਆਦ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਦਿਨਸ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ nimakh kaam suaad kaaran kott dinas dukh paaveh | For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥ gharee muhat rang maaneh fir bahur bahur pachhutaaveh |1| For an instant, you may savor pleasure, but afterwards, you shall regret it, again and again. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅੰਧੇ ਚੇਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ andhe chet har har raaeaa | O blind man, meditate on the Lord, the Lord, your King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਪਲਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਭੂਲੋ ਆਕ ਨੀਮ ਕੋ ਤੂੰਮਰੁ ॥ palak drisatt dekh bhoolo aak neem ko toonmar | You are deceived, beholding with your eyes, the bitter melon and swallow-wort. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੈਸਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਸਿਉ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਇਹੁ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ॥੨॥ jaisaa sang biseear siau hai re taiso hee ihu par grihu |2| But, like the companionship of a poisonous snake, so is the desire for another’s spouse. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੈਰੀ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਤਾ ਬਸਤੁ ਰਹੀ ਅਮਾਨਾ ॥ bairee kaaran paap karataa basat rahee amaanaa | For the sake of your enemy, you commit sins, while you neglect the reality of your faith. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛੋਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੀ ਸਾਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਬੈਰਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ chhodd jaeh tin hee siau sangee saajan siau bairaanaa |3| Your friendship is with those who abandon you, and you are angry with your friends. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਇਹੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਸੋ ਉਬਰਿਓ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥ sagal sansaar ihai bidh biaapio so ubario jis gur pooraa | The entire world is entangled in this way; he alone is saved, who has the Perfect Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਭਏ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੨੭॥ kahu naanak bhav saagar tario bhe puneet sareeraa |4|5|127| Says Nanak, I have crossed over the terrifying world-ocean; my body has become sanctified. ||4||5||127|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਲੂਕਿ ਕਮਾਨੋ ਸੋਈ ਤੁਮੑ ਪੇਖਿਓ ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧ ਮੁਕਰਾਨੀ ॥ look kamaano soee tuma pekhio moorr mugadh mukaraanee | O Lord, You behold whatever we do in secrecy; the fool may stubbornly deny it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪ ਕਮਾਨੇ ਕਉ ਲੇ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ aap kamaane kau le baandhe fir paachhai pachhutaanee |1| By his own actions, he is tied down, and in the end, he regrets and repents. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਨੀ ॥ prabh mere sabh bidh aagai jaanee | My God knows, ahead of time, all things. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੇ ਮੂਸੇ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਤ ਪਰਦਾ ਪਾਛੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bhram ke moose toon raakhat paradaa paachhai jeea kee maanee |1| rahaau | Deceived by doubt, you may hide your actions, but in the end, you shall have to confess the secrets of your mind. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਰੈ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥ jit jit laae tith tit laage kiaa ko karai paraanee | Whatever they are attached to, they remain joined to that. What can any mere mortal do? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ॥੨॥੬॥੧੨੮॥ bakhas laihu paarabraham suaamee naanak sad kurabaanee |2|6|128| Please, forgive me, O Supreme Lord Master. Nanak is forever a sacrifice to You. ||2||6||128|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਆਪੇ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥ apune sevak kee aape raakhai aape naam japaavai | He Himself preserves His servants; He causes them to chant His Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਕਾਜ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੀ ਤਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਉਠਿ ਧਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ jeh jeh kaaj kirat sevak kee tahaa tahaa utth dhaavai |1| Wherever the business and affairs of His servants are, there the Lord hurries to be. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਨਿਕਟੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ॥ sevak kau nikattee hoe dikhaavai | The Lord appears near at hand to His servant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਹੈ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਹੋਇ ਆਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jo jo kahai tthaakur peh sevak tatakaal hoe aavai |1| rahaau | Whatever the servant asks of his Lord and Master, immediately comes to pass. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ tis sevak kai hau balihaaree jo apane prabh bhaavai | I am a sacrifice to that servant, who is pleasing to his God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੋਇ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਸਣਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੨੯॥ tis kee soe sunee man hariaa tis naanak parasan aavai |2|7|129| Hearing of his glory, the mind is rejuvenated; Nanak comes to touch his feet. ||2||7||129|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੁਖਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ anik jon bhramio bhram bheetar sukheh naahee paravesaa re |1| The soul wanders through countless incarnations in doubt, but it does not come to dwell in peace. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
