ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ॥ pooraa gur pooree banat banaaee | The Perfect Guru has fashioned His perfect fashion. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੪॥੨੪॥ naanak bhagat milee vaddiaaee |4|24| O Nanak, the Lord’s devotees are blessed with glorious greatness. ||4||24|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬਨਾਵਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ॥ gur kai sabad banaavahu ihu man | I have shaped this mind in the mold of the Guru’s Word. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ॥੧॥ gur kaa darasan sanchahu har dhan |1| Beholding the Blessed Vision of the Guru’s Darshan, I have gathered the wealth of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਊਤਮ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੂੰ ਆਉ ॥ aootam mat merai ridai toon aau | O sublime understanding, come, enter into my mind, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਿਆਵਉ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦਾ ਅਤਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ dhiaavau gaavau gun govindaa at preetam mohi laagai naau |1| rahaau | that I may meditate and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, and love so dearly the Lord’s Name. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਵਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥ tripat aghaavan saachai naae | I am satisfied and satiated by the True Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਇ ॥੨॥ atthasatth majan sant dhooraae |2| My cleansing bath at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage is the dust of the Saints. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਏਕ ॥ sabh meh jaanau karataa ek | I recognize that the One Creator is contained in all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥੩॥ saadhasangat mil budh bibek |3| Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my understanding is refined. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਕਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥ daas sagal kaa chhodd abhimaan | I have become the servant of all; I have renounced my ego and pride. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਦਾਨੁ ॥੪॥੨੫॥ naanak kau gur deeno daan |4|25| The Guru has given this gift to Nanak. ||4||25|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 5 | Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੁਧਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪੂਰੀ ॥ budh pragaas bhee mat pooree | My intellect has been enlightened, and my understanding is perfect. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਰੀ ॥੧॥ taa te binasee duramat dooree |1| Thus my evil-mindedness, which kept me far from Him, has been removed. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸੀ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਅਲੇ ॥ aisee guramat paaeeale | Such are the Teachings which I have received from the Guru; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੂਡਤ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਮਹਿ ਨਿਕਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ booddat ghor andh koop meh nikasio mere bhaaee re |1| rahaau | while I was drowning in the pitch black well, I was saved, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਹਾ ਅਗਾਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਕਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ॥ mahaa agaah agan kaa saagar | The Guru is the boat to cross over the totally unfathomable ocean of fire; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਤਾਰੇ ਰਤਨਾਗਰੁ ॥੨॥ gur bohith taare ratanaagar |2| He is treasure of jewels. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਤਰ ਅੰਧ ਬਿਖਮ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ dutar andh bikham ih maaeaa | This ocean of Maya is dark and treacherous. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੩॥ gur poorai paragatt maarag dikhaaeaa |3| The Perfect Guru has revealed the way to cross over it. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਪ ਤਾਪ ਕਛੁ ਉਕਤਿ ਨ ਮੋਰੀ ॥ jaap taap kachh ukat na moree | I do not have the ability to chant or practice intense meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੨੬॥ gur naanak saranaagat toree |4|26| Guru Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||4||26|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ har ras peevat sad hee raataa | One who drinks in the Lord’s sublime essence is forever imbued with it, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ aan rasaa khin meh leh jaataa | while other essences wear off in an instant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥ har ras ke maate man sadaa anand | Intoxicated with the Lord’s sublime essence, the mind is forever in ecstasy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਮਹਿ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥੧॥ aan rasaa meh viaapai chind |1| Other essences bring only anxiety. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਲਮਸਤੁ ਮਤਵਾਰਾ ॥ har ras peevai alamasat matavaaraa | One who drinks in the Lord’s sublime essence, is intoxicated and enraptured; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਸਭਿ ਹੋਛੇ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aan rasaa sabh hochhe re |1| rahaau | all other essences have no effect. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ har ras kee keemat kahee na jaae | The value of the Lord’s sublime essence cannot be described. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਾਟਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ har ras saadhoo haatt samaae | The Lord’s sublime essence permeates the homes of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਲਾਖ ਕਰੋਰੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਨ ਕੇਹ ॥ laakh karoree milai na keh | One may spend thousands and millions, but it cannot be purchased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਦੇਹਿ ॥੨॥ jiseh paraapat tis hee dehi |2| He alone obtains it, who is so pre-ordained. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਖਿ ਭਏ ਬਿਸਮਾਦੁ ॥ naanak chaakh bhe bisamaad | Tasting it, Nanak is wonder-struck. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਸਾਦੁ ॥ naanak gur te aaeaa saad | Through the Guru, Nanak has obtained this taste. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਤ ਛੋਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ eet aoot kat chhodd na jaae | Here and hereafter, it does not leave him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੀਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੩॥੨੭॥ naanak geedhaa har ras maeh |3|27| Nanak is imbued and enraptured with the Lord’s subtle essence. ||3||27|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛੁਟਕੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ kaam krodh lobh mohu mittaavai chhuttakai duramat apunee dhaaree | If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥ hoe nimaanee sev kamaaveh taa preetam hoveh man piaaree |1| and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved’s Heart. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥ sun sundar saadhoo bachan udhaaree | Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖਮਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ dookh bhookh mittai tero sahasaa sukh paaveh toon sukhaman naaree |1| rahaau | Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਰਿ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਆਤਮ ਸੁਧੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਤਿਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥ charan pakhaar krau gur sevaa aatam sudh bikh tiaas nivaaree | Washing the Guru’s feet, and serving Him, the soul is sanctified, and the thirst for sin is quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਸਨ ਕੀ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਸਿ ਦਾਸਰੀ ਤਾ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥੨॥ daasan kee hoe daas daasaree taa paaveh sobhaa har duaaree |2| If you become the slave of the slave of the Lord’s slaves, then you shall obtain honor in the Court of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹੀ ਅਚਾਰ ਇਹੀ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਾਨਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥ eihee achaar ihee biauhaaraa aagiaa maan bhagat hoe tumaaree | This is right conduct, and this is the correct lifestyle, to obey the Command of the Lord’s Will; this is your devotional worship. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਇਹੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੩॥੨੮॥ jo ihu mantru kamaavai naanak so bhaujal paar utaaree |3|28| One who practices this Mantra, O Nanak, swims across the terrifying world-ocean. ||3||28|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
