ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਗਤੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥ dookh rog bhe gat tan te man niramal har har gun gaae | Pain and disease have left my body, and my mind has become pure; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਬ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਕਤ ਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ bhe anand mil saadhoo sang ab meraa man kat hee na jaae |1| I am in bliss, meeting with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and now, my mind does not go wandering. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝੀ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਮਾਇ ॥ tapat bujhee gurasabadee maae | My burning desires are quenched, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, O mother. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨਸਿ ਗਇਓ ਤਾਪ ਸਭ ਸਹਸਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ binas geo taap sabh sahasaa gur seetal milio sehaj subhaae |1| rahaau | The fever of doubt has been totally eliminated; meeting the Guru, I am cooled and soothed, with intuitive ease. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਾਵਤ ਰਹੇ ਏਕੁ ਇਕੁ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਆਇ ਬਸੇ ਅਬ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਥਾਇ ॥ dhaavat rahe ek ik boojhiaa aae base ab nihachal thaae | My wandering has ended, since I have realized the One and Only Lord; now, I have come to dwell in the eternal place. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਗਤੁ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਸੰਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਤ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਇ ॥੨॥ jagat udhaaran sant tumaare darasan pekhat rahe aghaae |2| Your Saints are the Saving Grace of the world; beholding the Blessed Vision of their Darshan, I remain satisfied. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਦੋਖ ਪਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਾਛੈ ਅਬ ਪਕਰੇ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਇ ॥ janam dokh pare mere paachhai ab pakare nihachal saadhoo paae | I have left behind the sins of countless incarnations, now that I have grasped the feet of the eternal Holy Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਮੰਗਲ ਮਨੂਆ ਅਬ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਫੁਨਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੩॥ sehaj dhun gaavai mangal manooaa ab taa kau fun kaal na khaae |3| My mind sings the celestial melody of bliss, and death shall no longer consume it. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ karan kaaran samarath hamaare sukhadaaee mere har har raae | My Lord, the Cause of all causes, is All-powerful, the Giver of peace; He is my Lord, my Lord King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਇ ॥੪॥੯॥ naam teraa jap jeevai naanak ot pot merai sang sahaae |4|9| Nanak lives by chanting Your Name, O Lord; You are my helper, with me, through and through. ||4||9|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 5 | Aasaa, Fifth Mehl: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਰੜਾਵੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ॥ ararraavai bilalaavai nindak | The slanderer cries out and bewails. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ paarabraham paramesar bisariaa apanaa keetaa paavai nindak |1| rahaau | He has forgotten the Supreme Lord, the Transcendent Lord; the slanderer reaps the rewards of his own actions. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਲੇ ਲਏ ਸਿਧਾਵੈ ॥ je koee us kaa sangee hovai naale le sidhaavai | If someone is his companion, then he shall be taken along with him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਅਜਗਰੁ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਏ ਨਿੰਦਕੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ anahodaa ajagar bhaar utthaae nindak aganee maeh jalaavai |1| Like the dragon, the slanderer carries his huge, useless loads, and burns in his own fire. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਜਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਤੀਤੈ ਸੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਵੈ ॥ paramesar kai duaarai ji hoe biteetai su naanak aakh sunaavai | Nanak proclaims and announces what happens at the Door of the Transcendent Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਇ ਬਿਗਸਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੦॥ bhagat janaa kau sadaa anand hai har keeratan gaae bigasaavai |2|10| The humble devotees of the Lord are forever in bliss; singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises, they blossom forth. ||2||10|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਉ ਮੈ ਕੀਓ ਸਗਲ ਸੀਗਾਰਾ ॥ jau mai keeo sagal seegaaraa | Even though I totally decorated myself, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਉ ਭੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਪਤੀਆਰਾ ॥ tau bhee meraa man na pateeaaraa | still, my mind was not satisfied. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਸੁਗੰਧਤ ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਵਉ ॥ anik sugandhat tan meh laavau | I applied various scented oils to my body, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵਉ ॥ ohu sukh til samaan nahee paavau | and yet, I did not obtain even a tiny bit of pleasure from this. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਐਸੀ ਆਸਾਈ ॥ man meh chitvau aisee aasaaee | Within my mind, I hold such a desire, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਦੇਖਤ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥੧॥ pria dekhat jeevau meree maaee |1| that I may live only to behold my Beloved, O my mother. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨ ਧੀਰੈ ॥ maaee kahaa krau ihu man na dheerai | O mother, what should I do? This mind cannot rest. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ pria preetam bairaag hirai |1| rahaau | It is bewitched by the tender love of my Beloved. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਿਭੂਖਨ ਸੁਖ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਿਸੇਖੈ ॥ basatr bibhookhan sukh bahut bisekhai | Garments, ornaments, and such exquisite pleasures - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਇ ਭੀ ਜਾਨਉ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਲੇਖੈ ॥ oe bhee jaanau kitai na lekhai | I look upon these as of no account. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਤਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਅਰੁ ਮਾਨੁ ਮਹਤੁ ॥ pat sobhaa ar maan mehat | Likewise, honor, fame, dignity and greatness, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥ aagiaakaaree sagal jagat | obedience by the whole world, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਾਲ ॥ grihu aisaa hai sundar laal | and a household as beautiful as a jewel. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵਾ ਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੨॥ prabh bhaavaa taa sadaa nihaal |2| If I am pleasing to God’s Will, then I shall be blessed, and forever in bliss. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿੰਜਨ ਭੋਜਨ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਰਕਾਰ ॥ binjan bhojan anik parakaar | With foods and delicacies of so many different kinds, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰੰਗ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ rang tamaase bahut bisathaar | and such abundant pleasures and entertainments, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਅਰੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਸਿ ॥ raaj milakh ar bahut furamaaeis | power and property and absolute command - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨ ਜਾਇਸਿ ॥ man nahee dhraapai trisanaa na jaaeis | with these, the mind is not satisfied, and its thirst is not quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਮਿਲਬੇ ਇਹੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥ bin milabe ihu din na bihaavai | Without meeting Him, this day does not pass. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤਾ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ milai prabhoo taa sabh sukh paavai |3| Meeting God, I find peace. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਇਹ ਸੋਇ ॥ khojat khojat sunee ih soe | By searching and seeking, I have heard this news, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਤਰਿਓ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ saadhasangat bin tario na koe | that without the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, no one swims across. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ jis masatak bhaag tin satigur paaeaa | One who has this good destiny written upon his forehead, finds the True Guru. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੂਰੀ ਆਸਾ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਇਆ ॥ pooree aasaa man tripataaeaa | His hopes are fulfilled, and his mind is satisfied. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਡੰਝਾ ॥ prabh miliaa taa chookee ddanjhaa | When one meets God, then his thirst is quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਧਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਮੰਝਾ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ naanak ladhaa man tan manjhaa |4|11| Nanak has found the Lord, within his mind and body. ||4||11|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
