ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ so boojhai jis aap bujhaae | He alone understands, whom the Lord Himself inspires to understand. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥ gur parasaadee sev karaae |1| By Guru’s Grace, one serves Him. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ giaan ratan sabh sojhee hoe | With the jewel of spiritual wisdom, total understanding is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ gur parasaad agiaan binaasai anadin jaagai vekhai sach soe |1| rahaau | By Guru’s Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਏ ॥ mohu gumaan gur sabad jalaae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, attachment and pride are burnt away. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ poore gur te sojhee paae | From the Perfect Guru, true understanding is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ antar mehal gur sabad pachhaanai | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one realizes the Lord’s Presence within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਰਹੈ ਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥੨॥ aavan jaan rahai thir naam samaane |2| Then, one’s coming and going cease, and one becomes stable, absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਹੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ jaman maranaa hai sansaar | The world is tied to birth and death. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥ manamukh achet maaeaa mohu gubaar | The unconscious, self-willed manmukh is enveloped in the darkness of Maya and emotional attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਬਹੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ par nindaa bahu koorr kamaavai | He slanders others, and practices utter falsehood. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ visattaa kaa keerraa visattaa maeh samaavai |3| He is a maggot in manure, and into manure he is absorbed. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥ satasangat mil sabh sojhee paae | Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, total understanding is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥ gur kaa sabad har bhagat drirraae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, devotional love for the Lord is implanted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ bhaanaa mane sadaa sukh hoe | One who surrenders to the Lord’s Will is peaceful forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੯॥ naanak sach samaavai soe |4|10|49| O Nanak, he is absorbed into the True Lord. ||4||10||49|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਪੰਚਪਦੇ₂ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 3 panchapade₂ | Aasaa, Third Mehl, Panch-Padhay: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ॥ sabad marai tis sadaa anand | One who dies in the Word of the Shabad, finds eternal bliss. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ satigur bhette gur gobind | He is united with the True Guru, the Guru, the Lord God. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ naa fir marai na aavai jaae | He does not die any more, and he does not come or go. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥ poore gur te saach samaae |1| Through the Perfect Guru, he merges with the True Lord. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ॥ jina kau naam likhiaa dhur lekh | One who has the Naam, the Name of the Lord, written in his pre-ordained destiny, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸੇਖੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ te anadin naam sadaa dhiaaveh gur poore te bhagat visekh |1| rahaau | night and day, meditates forever on the Naam; he obtains the wondrous blessing of devotional love from the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੑ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ jina kau har prabh le milaae | Those, whom the Lord God has blended with Himself - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨੑ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ tina kee gehan gat kahee na jaae | their sublime state cannot be described. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦਿਤੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ poorai satigur ditee vaddiaaee | The Perfect True Guru has given the Glorious Greatness, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਊਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੨॥ aootam padavee har naam samaaee |2| of the most exalted order, and I am absorbed into the Lord’s Name. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥ jo kichh kare su aape aap | Whatever the Lord does, He does all by Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਕ ਘੜੀ ਮਹਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ॥ ek gharree meh thaap uthaap | In an instant, He establishes, and disestablishes. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣਾ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ keh keh kahanaa aakh sunaae | By merely speaking, talking, shouting and preaching about the Lord, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੇ ਸਉ ਘਾਲੇ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥ je sau ghaale thaae na paae |3| Even hundreds of times, the mortal is not approved. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਨੑ ਕੈ ਪੋਤੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ jina kai potai pun tinaa guroo milaae | The Guru meets with those, who take virtue as their treasure; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਚੁ ਬਾਣੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ sach baanee gur sabad sunaae | they listen to the True Word of the Guru’s Bani, the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਹਾਂ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸੈ ਤਹਾਂ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਏ ॥ jahaan sabad vasai tahaan dukh jaae | Pain departs, from that place where the Shabad abides. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥ giaan ratan saachai sehaj samaae |4| By the jewel of spiritual wisdom, one is easily absorbed into the True Lord. ||4|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਵੈ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ naavai jevadd hor dhan naahee koe | No other wealth is as great as the Naam. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ jis no bakhase saachaa soe | It is bestowed only by the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ poorai sabad man vasaae | Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, it abides in the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੧੧॥੫੦॥ naanak naam rate sukh paae |5|11|50| O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, peace is obtained. ||5||11||50|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਨਿਰਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਜਾਏ ॥ nirat kare bahu vaaje vajaae | One may dance and play numerous instruments; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥ eihu man andhaa bolaa hai kis aakh sunaae | but this mind is blind and deaf, so for whose benefit is this speaking and preaching? - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ॥ antar lobh bharam anal vaau | Deep within is the fire of greed, and the dust-storm of doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੀਵਾ ਬਲੈ ਨ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ deevaa balai na sojhee paae |1| The lamp of knowledge is not burning, and understanding is not obtained. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ guramukh bhagat ghatt chaanan hoe | The Gurmukh has the light of devotional worship within his heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aap pachhaan milai prabh soe |1| rahaau | Understanding his own self, he meets God. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥ guramukh nirat har laagai bhaau | The Gurmukh’s dance is to embrace love for the Lord; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੂਰੇ ਤਾਲ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ poore taal vichahu aap gavaae | to the beat of the drum, he sheds his ego from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ meraa prabh saachaa aape jaan | My God is True; He Himself is the Knower of all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥੨॥ gur kai sabad antar braham pachhaan |2| Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, recognize the Creator Lord within yourself. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ guramukh bhagat antar preet piaar | The Gurmukh is filled with devotional love for the Beloved Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ gur kaa sabad sehaj veechaar | He intuitively reflects upon the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ guramukh bhagat jugat sach soe | For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ paakhandd bhagat nirat dukh hoe |3| But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
