ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥ tan man arape satigur saranaaee | He dedicates his mind and body to the True Guru, and seeks His Sanctuary. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥ hiradai naam vaddee vaddiaaee | His greatest greatness is that the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is in his heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥ sadaa preetam prabh hoe sakhaaee |1| The Beloved Lord God is his constant companion. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋ ਲਾਲਾ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ॥ so laalaa jeevat marai | He alone is the Lord’s slave, who remains dead while yet alive. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੋਗੁ ਹਰਖੁ ਦੁਇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਉਧਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sog harakh due sam kar jaanai gur parasaadee sabad udharai |1| rahaau | He looks upon pleasure and pain alike; by Guru’s Grace, he is saved through the Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਰ ਧੁਰਹੁ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ॥ karanee kaar dhurahu furamaaee | He does his deeds according to the Lord’s Primal Command. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕੋ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ bin sabadai ko thaae na paaee | Without the Shabad, no one is approved. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਰਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥ karanee keerat naam vasaaee | Singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises, the Naam abides within the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਢਿਲ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੨॥ aape devai dtil na paaee |2| He Himself gives His gifts, without hesitation. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥ manamukh bharam bhulai sansaar | The self-willed manmukh wanders around the world in doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਕਰੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥ bin raasee koorraa kare vaapaar | Without any capital, he makes false transactions. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਣੁ ਰਾਸੀ ਵਖਰੁ ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ vin raasee vakhar palai na paae | Without any capital, he does not obtain any merchandise. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭੁਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥੩॥ manamukh bhulaa janam gavaae |3| The mistaken manmukh wastes away his life. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਸੁ ਲਾਲਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ satigur seve su laalaa hoe | One who serves the True Guru is the Lord’s slave. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਊਤਮ ਜਾਤੀ ਊਤਮੁ ਸੋਇ ॥ aootam jaatee aootam soe | His social status is exalted, and his reputation is exalted. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਭ ਦੂ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ gur paurree sabh doo aoochaa hoe | Climbing the Guru’s Ladder, he becomes the most exalted of all. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੬॥ naanak naam vaddaaee hoe |4|7|46| O Nanak, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord, greatness is obtained. ||4||7||46|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 3 | Aasaa, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਝੂਠੋ ਝੂਠੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥ manamukh jhoottho jhootth kamaavai | The self-willed manmukh practices falsehood, only falsehood. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਖਸਮੈ ਕਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ khasamai kaa mehal kade na paavai | He never attains the Mansion of the Lord Presence. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ॥ doojai lagee bharam bhulaavai | Attached to duality, he wanders, deluded by doubt. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਮਤਾ ਬਾਧਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ mamataa baadhaa aavai jaavai |1| Entangled in worldly attachments, he comes and goes. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਕਾ ਮਨ ਦੇਖੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ dohaaganee kaa man dekh seegaar | Behold, the decorations of the discarded bride! - Guru Amardas Ji
ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤਿ ਧਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ਝੂਠੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਾਖੰਡ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ putr kalat dhan maaeaa chit laae jhootth mohu paakhandd vikaar |1| rahaau | Her consciousness is attached to children, spouse, wealth, and Maya, falsehood, emotional attachment, hypocrisy and corruption. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ sadaa sohaagan jo prabh bhaavai | She who is pleasing to God is forever a happy soul-bride. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਵੈ ॥ gurasabadee seegaar banaavai | She makes the Word of the Guru’s Shabad her decoration. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੇਜ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਵੈ ॥ sej sukhaalee anadin har raavai | Her bed is so comfortable; she enjoys her Lord, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ mil preetam sadaa sukh paavai |2| Meeting her Beloved, the obtains eternal peace. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ saa sohaagan saachee jis saach piaar | She is a true, virtuous soul-bride, who enshrines love for the True Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪਣਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ apanaa pir raakhai sadaa ur dhaar | She keeps her Husband Lord always clasped to her heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨੇੜੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥ nerrai vekhai sadaa hadoor | She sees Him near at hand, ever-present. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੩॥ meraa prabh sarab rahiaa bharapoor |3| My God is all-pervading everywhere. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ aagai jaat roop na jaae | Social status and beauty will not go with you hereafter. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤੇਹਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੇਹੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ tehaa hovai jehe karam kamaae | As are the deeds done here, so does one become. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ sabade aoocho aoochaa hoe | Through the Word of the Shabad, one becomes the highest of the high. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੭॥ naanak saach samaavai soe |4|8|47| O Nanak, he is absorbed in the True Lord. ||4||8||47|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਭਗਤਿ ਰਤਾ ਜਨੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ bhagat rataa jan sehaj subhaae | The Lord’s humble servant is imbued with devotional love, effortlessly and spontaneously. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਭੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ gur kai bhai saachai saach samaae | Through awe and fear of the Guru, he is truly absorbed in the True One. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ bin gur poore bhagat na hoe | Without the Perfect Guru, devotional love is not obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਰੁੰਨੇ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥ manamukh rune apanee pat khoe |1| The self-willed manmukhs lose their honor, and cry out in pain. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ mere man har jap sadaa dhiaae | O my mind, chant the Lord’s Name, and meditate on Him forever. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋਈ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ sadaa anand hovai din raatee jo ichhai soee fal paae |1| rahaau | You shall always be in ecstasy, day and night, and you shall obtain the fruits of your desires. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur poore te pooraa paae | Through the Perfect Guru, the Perfect Lord is obtained, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ hiradai sabad sach naam vasaae | and the Shabad, the True Name, is enshrined in the mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਏ ॥ antar niramal amrit sar naae | One who bathes in the Pool of Ambrosial Nectar becomes immaculately pure within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਦਾ ਸੂਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੨॥ sadaa sooche saach samaae |2| He becomes forever sanctified, and is absorbed in the True Lord. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ har prabh vekhai sadaa hajoor | He sees the Lord God ever-present. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ gur parasaad rahiaa bharapoor | By Guru’s Grace, he sees the Lord permeating and pervading everywhere. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜਹਾ ਜਾਉ ਤਹ ਵੇਖਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ jahaa jaau teh vekhaa soe | Wherever I go, there I see Him. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥ gur bin daataa avar na koe |3| Without the Guru, there is no other Giver. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥ gur saagar pooraa bhanddaar | The Guru is the ocean, the perfect treasure, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਊਤਮ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ aootam ratan javaahar apaar | the most precious jewel and priceless ruby. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥ gur parasaadee devanahaar | By Guru’s Grace, the Great Giver blesses us; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸੇ ਬਖਸਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੮॥ naanak bakhase bakhasanahaar |4|9|48| O Nanak, the Forgiving Lord forgives us. ||4||9||48|| - Guru Amardas Ji

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ poorai bhaag gur sevaa hoe | Through perfect good destiny, one serves the Guru. - Guru Amardas Ji
