ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਇ ॥ jo man raate har rang laae | Those being whose minds are imbued and drenched with the Lord’s Love - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ tin kaa janam maran dukh laathaa te har daragah mile subhaae |1| rahaau |
- their pains of birth and death are taken away. They are automatically ushered into the Court of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਬਦੁ ਚਾਖੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ sabad chaakhai saachaa saad paae | One who has tasted the Shabad, obtains the true flavor. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ har kaa naam man vasaae | The Name of the Lord abides within his mind. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ har prabh sadaa rahiaa bharapoor | The Lord God is Eternal and All-pervading. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੨॥ aape nerrai aape door |2| He Himself is near, and He Himself is far away. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖੈ ਬਕੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ aakhan aakhai bakai sabh koe | Everyone talks and speaks through speech; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥ aape bakhas milaae soe | the Lord Himself forgives, and unites us with Himself. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਕਹਣੈ ਕਥਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥ kahanai kathan na paaeaa jaae | By merely speaking and talking, He is not obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੩॥ gur parasaad vasai man aae |3| By Guru’s Grace, He comes to abide in the mind. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥ guramukh vichahu aap gavaae | The Gurmukh eradicates his self-conceit from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇ ॥ har rang raate mohu chukaae | He is imbued with the Lord’s Love, having discarded worldly attachment. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ at niramal gurasabad veechaar | He contemplates the utterly Immaculate Word of the Guru’s Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥੪॥੪੩॥ naanak naam savaaranahaar |4|4|43| O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is our Salvation. ||4||4||43|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 3 | Aasaa, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ doojai bhaae lage dukh paaeaa | Attached to the love of duality, one only incurs pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥ bin sabadai birathaa janam gavaaeaa | Without the Word of the Shabad, one’s life is wasted away in vain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਹੋਇ ॥ satigur sevai sojhee hoe | Serving the True Guru, understanding is obtained, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ doojai bhaae na laagai koe |1| and then, one is not attached to the love of duality. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ mool laage se jan paravaan | Those who hold fast to their roots, become acceptable. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ anadin raam naam jap hiradai gurasabadee har eko jaan |1| rahaau | Night and day, they meditate within their hearts on the Lord’s Name; through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they know the One Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਡਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ ddaalee laagai nihafal jaae | One who is attached to the branch, does not receive the fruits. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅੰਧਂੀ ਕੰਮੀ ਅੰਧ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ andhanee kamee andh sajaae | For blind actions, blind punishment is received. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ manamukh andhaa tthaur na paae | The blind, self-willed manmukh finds no place of rest. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਕੀੜਾ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਪਚਾਇ ॥੨॥ bisattaa kaa keerraa bisattaa maeh pachaae |2| He is a maggot in manure, and in manure he shall rot away. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ gur kee sevaa sadaa sukh paae | Serving the Guru, everlasting peace is obtained. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ॥ santasangat mil har gun gaae | Joining the True Congregation, the Sat Sangat, the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ naame naam kare veechaar | One who contemplates the Naam, the Name of the Lord, - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ aap tarai kul udharanahaar |3| saves himself, and his family as well. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥ gur kee baanee naam vajaae | Through the Word of the Guru’s Bani, the Naam resounds; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ naanak mehal sabad ghar paae | O Nanak, through the Word of the Shabad, one finds the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence within the home of the heart. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨਾਇਆ ॥ guramat sat sar har jal naaeaa | Under Guru’s Instruction, bathe in the Pool of Truth, in the Water of the Lord; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਰਤੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੫॥੪੪॥ duramat mail sabh durat gavaaeaa |4|5|44| thus the filth of evil-mindedness and sin shall all be washed away. ||4||5||44|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ aasaa mahalaa 3 | Aasaa, Third Mehl: - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਵਿਗਾੜਹਿ ॥ manamukh mareh mar maran vigaarreh | The self-willed manmukhs are dying; they are wasting away in death. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਆਤਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਹਿ ॥ doojai bhaae aatam sanghaareh | In the love of duality, they murder their own souls. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ॥ meraa meraa kar kar vigootaa | Crying out, Mine, mine!, they are ruined. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਆਤਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੑੈ ਭਰਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥ aatam na cheenai bharamai vich sootaa |1| They do not remember their souls; they are asleep in superstition. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਰੁ ਮੁਇਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ mar mueaa sabade mar jaae | He alone dies a real death, who dies in the Word of the Shabad. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮ ਜਾਣਾਈ ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ausatat nindaa gur sam jaanaaee is jug meh laahaa har jap lai jaae |1| rahaau | The Guru has inspired me to realize, that praise and slander are one and the same; in this world, the profit is obtained by chanting the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਗਰਭ ਗਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥ naam vihoon garabh gal jaae | Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are dissolved within the womb. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇ ॥ birathaa janam doojai lobhaae | Useless is the birth of those who are lured by duality. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣੀ ਦੁਖਿ ਜਲੈ ਸਬਾਈ ॥ naam bihoonee dukh jalai sabaaee | Without the Naam, all are burning in pain. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੨॥ satigur poorai boojh bujhaaee |2| The Perfect True Guru has given me this understanding. ||2|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਮਨੁ ਚੰਚਲੁ ਬਹੁ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ ॥ man chanchal bahu chottaa khaae | The fickle mind is struck down so many times. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਏਥਹੁ ਛੁੜਕਿਆ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥ ethahu chhurrakiaa tthaur na paae | Having lost this opportunity, no place of rest shall be found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਵਿਸਟਾ ਕਾ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ garabh jon visattaa kaa vaas | Cast into the womb of reincarnation, the mortal lives in manure; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥ tit ghar manamukh kare nivaas |3| in such a home, the self-willed manmukh takes up residence. ||3|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥ apune satigur kau sadaa bal jaaee | I am forever a sacrifice to my True Guru; - Guru Amardas Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥ guramukh jotee jot milaaee | the light of the Gurmukh blends with the Divine Light of the Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥ niramal baanee nij ghar vaasaa | Through the Immaculate Bani of the Word, the mortal dwells within the home of his own inner self. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੪੫॥ naanak haumai maare sadaa udaasaa |4|6|45| O Nanak, he conquers his ego, and remains forever detached. ||4||6||45|| - Guru Amardas Ji
