ਗਉੜੀ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀ ॥ gaurree kabeer jee | Gauree, Kabeer Jee: - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਸੁਖਿ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਸੋਈ ਹੈ ॥ andhakaar sukh kabeh na soee hai | In the darkness, no one can sleep in peace. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਰਾਜਾ ਰੰਕੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਲਿ ਰੋਈ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ raajaa rank doaoo mil roee hai |1| The king and the pauper both weep and cry. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਜਉ ਪੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਹਿਬੋ ॥ jau pai rasanaa raam na kahibo | As long as the tongue does not chant the Lord’s Name, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਉਪਜਤ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਰੋਵਤ ਰਹਿਬੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ aupajat binasat rovat rahibo |1| rahaau | the person continues coming and going in reincarnation, crying out in pain. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਜਸ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਤਰਵਰ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥ jas dekheeai taravar kee chhaaeaa | It is like the shadow of a tree; - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਗਏ ਕਹੁ ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ praan ge kahu kaa kee maaeaa |2| when the breath of life passes out of the mortal being, tell me, what becomes of his wealth? ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਜਸ ਜੰਤੀ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥ jas jantee meh jeeo samaanaa | It is like the music contained in the instrument; - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਮੂਏ ਮਰਮੁ ਕੋ ਕਾ ਕਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ mooe maram ko kaa kar jaanaa |3| how can anyone know the secret of the dead? ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਹੰਸਾ ਸਰਵਰੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥ hansaa saravar kaal sareer | Like the swan on the lake, death hovers over the body. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਪੀਉ ਰੇ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੮॥ raam rasaaein peeo re kabeer |4|8| Drink in the Lord’s sweet elixir, Kabeer. ||4||8|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਜੋਤਿ ਕੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਕੀ ਜੋਤੀ ॥ jot kee jaat jaat kee jotee | The creation is born of the Light, and the Light is in the creation. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੇ ਕੰਚੂਆ ਫਲ ਮੋਤੀ ॥੧॥ tit laage kanchooaa fal motee |1| It bears two fruits: the false glass and the true pearl. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਵਨੁ ਸੁ ਘਰੁ ਜੋ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਕਹੀਐ ॥ kavan su ghar jo nirbhau kaheeai | Where is that home, which is said to be free of fear? - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਭਉ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਇ ਅਭੈ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ bhau bhaj jaae abhai hoe raheeai |1| rahaau | There, fear is dispelled and one lives without fear. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਟਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥ tatt teerath nahee man pateeae | On the banks of sacred rivers, the mind is not appeased. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਚਾਰ ਅਚਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਉਰਝਾਇ ॥੨॥ chaar achaar rahe urajhaae |2| People remain entangled in good and bad deeds. ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੁਇ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨ ॥ paap pun due ek samaan | Sin and virtue are both the same. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੁਨ ਆਨ ॥੩॥ nij ghar paaras tajahu gun aan |3| In the home of your own being, is the Philosopher’s Stone; renounce your search for any other virtue. ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਬੀਰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਨ ਰੋਸੁ ॥ kabeer niragun naam na ros | Kabeer: O worthless mortal, do not lose the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਇਸੁ ਪਰਚਾਇ ਪਰਚਿ ਰਹੁ ਏਸੁ ॥੪॥੯॥ eis parachaae parach rahu es |4|9| Keep this mind of yours involved in this involvement. ||4||9|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਜੋ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਿਤਿ ਪਰਮਨੁ ਜਾਨਾ ॥ jo jan paramit paraman jaanaa | He claims to know the Lord, who is beyond measure and beyond thought; - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਬਾਤਨ ਹੀ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ baatan hee baikuntth samaanaa |1| by mere words, he plans to enter heaven. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਨਾ ਜਾਨਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕਹਾ ਹੀ ॥ naa jaanaa baikuntth kahaa hee | I do not know where heaven is. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਜਾਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ਸਭਿ ਕਹਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jaan jaan sabh kaheh tahaa hee |1| rahaau | Everyone claims that he plans to go there. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਹਨ ਕਹਾਵਨ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਅਈ ਹੈ ॥ kehan kahaavan neh pateeaee hai | By mere talk, the mind is not appeased. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਈ ਹੈ ॥੨॥ tau man maanai jaa te haumai jee hai |2| The mind is only appeased, when egotism is conquered. ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥ jab lag man baikuntth kee aas | As long as the mind is filled with the desire for heaven, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਬ ਲਗੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਹੀ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੩॥ tab lag hoe nahee charan nivaas |3| he does not dwell at the Lord’s Feet. ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਾਹਿ ॥ kahu kabeer ih kaheeai kaeh | Says Kabeer, unto whom should I tell this? - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੈ ਆਹਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥ saadhasangat baikuntthai aaeh |4|10| The Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is heaven. ||4||10|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਉਪਜੈ ਨਿਪਜੈ ਨਿਪਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ aupajai nipajai nipaj samaaee | We are born, and we grow, and having grown, we pass away. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਨੈਨਹ ਦੇਖਤ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ nainah dekhat ihu jag jaaee |1| Before our very eyes, this world is passing away. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਲਾਜ ਨ ਮਰਹੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਘਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥ laaj na marahu kahahu ghar meraa | How can you not die of shame, claiming, This world is mine? - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬਾਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ant kee baar nahee kachh teraa |1| rahaau | At the very last moment, nothing is yours. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਪਾਲੀ ॥ anik jatan kar kaaeaa paalee | Trying various methods, you cherish your body, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਮਰਤੀ ਬਾਰ ਅਗਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਜਾਲੀ ॥੨॥ maratee baar agan sang jaalee |2| but at the time of death, it is burned in the fire. ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਚੋਆ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਮਰਦਨ ਅੰਗਾ ॥ choaa chandan maradan angaa | You apply sandalwood oil to your limbs, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਕਾਠ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥੩॥ so tan jalai kaatth kai sangaa |3| but that body is burned with the firewood. ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਗੁਨੀਆ ॥ kahu kabeer sunahu re guneea | Says Kabeer, listen, O virtuous people: - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਬਿਨਸੈਗੋ ਰੂਪੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਦੁਨੀਆ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ binasaigo roop dekhai sabh duneea |4|11| your beauty shall vanish, as the whole world watches. ||4||11|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਅਵਰ ਮੂਏ ਕਿਆ ਸੋਗੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥ avar mooe kiaa sog kareejai | Why do you cry and mourn, when another person dies? - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਉ ਕੀਜੈ ਜਉ ਆਪਨ ਜੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ tau keejai jau aapan jeejai |1| Do so only if you yourself are to live. ||1|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਮੈ ਨ ਮਰਉ ਮਰਿਬੋ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥ mai na mrau maribo sansaaraa | I shall not die as the rest of the world dies, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਅਬ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਹੈ ਜੀਆਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ab mohi milio hai jeeaavanahaaraa |1| rahaau | for now I have met the life-giving Lord. ||1||Pause|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਇਆ ਦੇਹੀ ਪਰਮਲ ਮਹਕੰਦਾ ॥ eaa dehee paramal mahakandaa | People anoint their bodies with fragrant oils, - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਤਾ ਸੁਖ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੨॥ taa sukh bisare paramaanandaa |2| and in that pleasure, they forget the supreme bliss. ||2|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕੂਅਟਾ ਏਕੁ ਪੰਚ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥ kooattaa ek panch panihaaree | There is one well, and five water-carriers. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਟੂਟੀ ਲਾਜੁ ਭਰੈ ਮਤਿ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥ ttoottee laaj bharai mat haaree |3| Even though the rope is broken, the fools continue trying to draw water. ||3|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥ kahu kabeer ik budh beechaaree | Says Kabeer, through contemplation, I have obtained this one understanding. - Bhagat Kabir Ji
ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਕੂਅਟਾ ਨਾ ਪਨਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੨॥ naa ohu kooattaa naa panihaaree |4|12| There is no well, and no water-carrier. ||4||12|| - Bhagat Kabir Ji

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ anik janam kee bahu rangaa |1|
