ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸ੍ਰੇਸਟ ਊਤਮ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥ giaan sresatt aootam isanaan | The most sublime wisdom and purifying baths; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥ chaar padaarath kamal pragaas | the four cardinal blessings, the opening of the heart-lotus; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਧਿ ਸਗਲ ਤੇ ਉਦਾਸ ॥ sabh kai madh sagal te udaas | in the midst of all, and yet detached from all; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੁੰਦਰੁ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਤਤ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥ sundar chatur tat kaa betaa | beauty, intelligence, and the realization of reality; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥ samadarasee ek drisattetaa | to look impartially upon all, and to see only the One - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹ ਫਲ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕੈ ਮੁਖਿ ਭਨੇ ॥ eih fal tis jan kai mukh bhane |
- these blessings come to one who, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਬਚਨ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਨੇ ॥੬॥ gur naanak naam bachan man sune |6| through Guru Nanak, chants the Naam with his mouth, and hears the Word with his ears. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨਿ ਕੋਇ ॥ eihu nidhaan japai man koe | One who chants this treasure in his mind - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ sabh jug meh taa kee gat hoe | in every age, he attains salvation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਮ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ gun gobind naam dhun baanee | In it is the Glory of God, the Naam, the chanting of Gurbani. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਬਖਾਣੀ ॥ simrit saasatr bed bakhaanee | The Simritees, the Shaastras and the Vedas speak of it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਮਤਾਂਤ ਕੇਵਲ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥ sagal mataant keval har naam | The essence of all religion is the Lord’s Name alone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਗਤ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ॥ gobind bhagat kai man bisraam | It abides in the minds of the devotees of God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੋਟਿ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟੈ ॥ kott apraadh saadhasang mittai | Millions of sins are erased, in the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੁਟੈ ॥ sant kripaa te jam te chhuttai | By the Grace of the Saint, one escapes the Messenger of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ jaa kai masatak karam prabh paae | Those, who have such pre-ordained destiny on their foreheads, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਆਏ ॥੭॥ saadh saran naanak te aae |7| O Nanak, enter the Sanctuary of the Saints. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਲਾਇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ jis man basai sunai laae preet | One, within whose mind it abides, and who listens to it with love - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥ tis jan aavai har prabh cheet | that humble person consciously remembers the Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦੂਖੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ janam maran taa kaa dookh nivaarai | The pains of birth and death are removed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਤਤਕਾਲ ਉਧਾਰੈ ॥ dulabh deh tatakaal udhaarai | The human body, so difficult to obtain, is instantly redeemed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥ niramal sobhaa amrit taa kee baanee | Spotlessly pure is his reputation, and ambrosial is his speech. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥ ek naam man maeh samaanee | The One Name permeates his mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭੈ ਭਰਮ ॥ dookh rog binase bhai bharam | Sorrow, sickness, fear and doubt depart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ॥ saadh naam niramal taa ke karam | He is called a Holy person; his actions are immaculate and pure. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬਨੀ ॥ sabh te aooch taa kee sobhaa banee | His glory becomes the highest of all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਗੁਣਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ॥੮॥੨੪॥ naanak ih gun naam sukhamanee |8|24| O Nanak, by these Glorious Virtues, this is named Sukhmani, Peace of mind. ||8||24|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥ jal thal maheeal pooriaa suaamee sirajanahaar | The Creator Lord and Master is pervading the water, the land, and the sky. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ anik bhaant hoe pasariaa naanak ekankaar |1| In so many ways, the One, the Universal Creator has diffused Himself, O Nanak. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਏਕਮ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਰਉ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥ ekam ekankaar prabh krau bandanaa dhiaae | The first day of the lunar cycle: Bow in humility and meditate on the One, the Universal Creator Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ gun gobind gupaal prabh saran prau har raae | Praise God, the Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World; seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੁਖ ਜਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ taa kee aas kaliaan sukh jaa te sabh kachh hoe | Place your hopes in Him, for salvation and peace; all things come from Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਓ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ chaar kuntt deh dis bhramio tis bin avar na koe | I wandered around the four corners of the world and in the ten directions, but I saw nothing except Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸੁਨੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਉ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ bed puraan simrit sune bahu bidh krau beechaar | I listened to the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees, and I pondered over them in so many ways. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਭੈ ਹਰਨ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ॥ patit udhaaran bhai haran sukh saagar nirankaar | The Saving Grace of sinners, the Destroyer of fear, the Ocean of peace, the Formless Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਦੇਨਹਾਰੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ daataa bhugataa denahaar tis bin avar na jaae | The Great Giver, the Enjoyer, the Bestower - there is no place at all without Him. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਚਾਹਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥ jo chaaheh soee milai naanak har gun gaae |1| You shall obtain all that you desire, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਨੀਤ ॥ gobind jas gaaeeai har neet | Sing the Praises of the Lord, the Lord of the Universe, each and every day. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਿਲਿ ਭਜੀਐ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ mil bhajeeai saadhasang mere meet |1| rahaau | Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and vibrate, meditate on Him, O my friend. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਕਰਉ ਬੰਦਨਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਵਾਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪਰਉ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥ krau bandanaa anik vaar saran prau har raae | Bow in humility to the Lord, over and over again, and enter the Sanctuary of the Lord, our King. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਾਉ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੨॥ bhram katteeai naanak saadhasang duteea bhaau mittaae |2| Doubt is eradicated, O Nanak, in the Company of the Holy, and the love of duality is eliminated. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦੁਤੀਆ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਿ ਨੀਤ ॥ duteea duramat door kar gur sevaa kar neet | The second day of the lunar cycle: Get rid of your evil-mindedness, and serve the Guru continually. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਬਸੈ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੀਤ ॥ raam ratan man tan basai taj kaam krodh lobh meet | The jewel of the Lord’s Name shall come to dwell in your mind and body, when you renounce sexual desire, anger and greed, O my friend. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਰਣੁ ਮਿਟੈ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਬਿਨਸਹਿ ਸਗਲ ਕਲੇਸ ॥ maran mittai jeevan milai binaseh sagal kales | Conquer death and obtain eternal life; all your troubles will depart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੁ ਤਜਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਭਾਉ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਰਵੇਸ ॥ aap tajahu gobind bhajahu bhaau bhagat paraves | Renounce your self-conceit and vibrate upon the Lord of the Universe; loving devotion to Him shall permeate your being. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
