ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ braham giaanee aap nirankaar | The God-conscious being is himself the Formless Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਨੀ ॥ braham giaanee kee sobhaa braham giaanee banee | The glory of the God-conscious being belongs to the God-conscious being alone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ aur dhaarai jo antar naam | One who enshrines the Naam within the heart, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥ sarab mai pekhai bhagavaan | who sees the Lord God in all, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥ nimakh nimakh tthaakur namasakaarai | who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਅਪਰਸੁ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ naanak ohu aparas sagal nisataarai |1|
- O Nanak, such a one is the true ‘touch-nothing Saint’, who emancipates everyone. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਪਰਸ ॥ mithiaa naahee rasanaa paras | One whose tongue does not touch falsehood; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਰਸ ॥ man meh preet niranjan daras | whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ॥ par tria roop na pekhai netr | whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others’ wives, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥ saadh kee ttehal santasang het | who serves the Holy and loves the Saints’ Congregation, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸੁਨੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥ karan na sunai kaahoo kee nindaa | whose ears do not listen to slander against anyone, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੰਦਾ ॥ sabh te jaanai aapas kau mandaa | who deems himself to be the worst of all, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥ gur prasaad bikhiaa paraharai | who, by Guru’s Grace, renounces corruption, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥ man kee baasanaa man te ttarai | who banishes the mind’s evil desires from his mind, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥ eindree jit panch dokh te rehat | who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਐਸਾ ਅਪਰਸ ॥੧॥ naanak kott madhe ko aisaa aparas |1|
- O Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely one such ‘touch-nothing Saint’. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਸੁਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ॥ baisano so jis aoopar suprasan | The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥ bisan kee maaeaa te hoe bhin | He dwells apart from Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥ karam karat hovai nihakaram | Performing good deeds, he does not seek rewards. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥ tis baisano kaa niramal dharam | Spotlessly pure is the religion of such a Vaishnaav; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥ kaahoo fal kee ichhaa nahee baachhai | he has no desire for the fruits of his labors. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥ keval bhagat keeratan sang raachai | He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord’s Glory. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ man tan antar simaran gopaal | Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥ sabh aoopar hovat kirapaal | He is kind to all creatures. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥ aap drirrai avarah naam japaavai | He holds fast to the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹੁ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ naanak ohu baisano param gat paavai |2| O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains the supreme status. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥ bhgautee bhagavant bhagat kaa rang | The true Bhagaautee, the devotee of Adi Shakti, loves the devotional worship of God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗੁ ॥ sagal tiaagai dusatt kaa sang | He forsakes the company of all wicked people. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਰਮੁ ॥ man te binasai sagalaa bharam | All doubts are removed from his mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ॥ kar poojai sagal paarabraham | He performs devotional service to the Supreme Lord God in all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਲੁ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ saadhasang paapaa mal khovai | In the Company of the Holy, the filth of sin is washed away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ tis bhgautee kee mat aootam hovai | The wisdom of such a Bhagaautee becomes supreme. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥ bhagavant kee ttehal karai nit neet | He constantly performs the service of the Supreme Lord God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥ man tan arapai bisan pareet | He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥ har ke charan hiradai basaavai | The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in his heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ naanak aisaa bhgautee bhagavant kau paavai |3| O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains the Lord God. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਜੋ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥ so panddit jo man parabodhai | He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥ raam naam aatam meh sodhai | He searches for the Lord’s Name within his own soul. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰੁ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥ raam naam saar ras peevai | He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord’s Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਵੈ ॥ aus panddit kai upades jag jeevai | By that Pandit’s teachings, the world lives. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥ har kee kathaa hiradai basaavai | He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ so panddit fir jon na aavai | Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥ bed puraan simrit boojhai mool | He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲੁ ॥ sookham meh jaanai asathool | In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ॥ chahu varanaa kau de upades | He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸੁ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸੁ ॥੪॥ naanak us panddit kau sadaa ades |4| O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ beej mantru sarab ko giaan | The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ chahu varanaa meh japai koaoo naam | Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ jo jo japai tis kee gat hoe | Whoever chants it, is emancipated. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ saadhasang paavai jan koe | And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ kar kirapaa antar ur dhaarai | By His Grace, He enshrines it within. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪਸੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਮੁਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥ pas pret mughad paathar kau taarai | Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ sarab rog kaa aaukhad naam | The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਮ ॥ kaliaan roop mangal gun gaam | Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਹੂ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਧਰਮਿ ॥ kaahoo jugat kitai na paaeeai dharam | It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥ naanak tis milai jis likhiaa dhur karam |5| O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥ jis kai man paarabraham kaa nivaas | One whose mind is a home for the Supreme Lord God - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
