ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਮਿਟੈ ਜਮ ਪੰਥ ਕੀ ਜਾਸੁ ਬਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ traas mittai jam panth kee jaas basai man naau | One whose heart is filled with the Name shall have no fear on the path of death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਠਾਉ ॥ gat paaveh mat hoe pragaas mahalee paaveh tthaau | He shall obtain salvation, and his intellect shall be enlightened; he will find his place in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾਹੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਧਨੁ ਚਲੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਬਨ ਨਹ ਰਾਜ ॥ taahoo sang na dhan chalai grih joban neh raaj | Neither wealth, nor household, nor youth, nor power shall go along with you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹੁ ਇਹੈ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਕਾਜ ॥ santasang simarat rahahu ihai tuhaarai kaaj | In the Society of the Saints, meditate in remembrance on the Lord. This alone shall be of use to you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਜਉ ਤਾਪ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ਆਪ ॥ taataa kachhoo na hoee hai jau taap nivaarai aap | There will be no burning at all, when He Himself takes away your fever. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮਹਿ ਆਪਹਿ ਮਾਈ ਬਾਪ ॥੩੨॥ pratipaalai naanak hameh aapeh maaee baap |32| O Nanak, the Lord Himself cherishes us; He is our Mother and Father. ||32|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਥਾਕੇ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਘਾਲਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਥ ॥ thaake bahu bidh ghaalate tripat na trisanaa laath | They have grown weary, struggling in all sorts of ways; but they are not satisfied, and their thirst is not quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੰਚਿ ਸੰਚਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥੧॥ sanch sanch saakat mooe naanak maaeaa na saath |1| Gathering in and hoarding what they can, the faithless cynics die, O Nanak, but the wealth of Maya does not go with them in the end. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਥਥਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਕੋਊ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਇ ਪਸਾਰਹੁ ਪਾਵ ॥ thathaa thir koaoo nahee kaae pasaarahu paav | T’HAT’HA: Nothing is permanent - why do you stretch out your feet? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਬੰਚ ਬਲ ਛਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਵ ॥ anik banch bal chhal karahu maaeaa ek upaav | You commit so many fraudulent and deceitful actions as you chase after Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥੈਲੀ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਥਾਕਿ ਪਰਹੁ ਗਾਵਾਰ ॥ thailee sanchahu sram karahu thaak parahu gaavaar | You work to fill up your bag, you fool, and then you fall down exhausted. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਕੈ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅੰਤੇ ਅਉਸਰ ਬਾਰ ॥ man kai kaam na aavee ante aausar baar | But this shall be of no use to you at all at that very last instant. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਸੰਤਹ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਲੇਹੁ ॥ thit paavahu gobid bhajahu santah kee sikh lehu | You shall find stability only by vibrating upon the Lord of the Universe, and accepting the Teachings of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਇਆ ਸਾਚਾ ਅਸਨੇਹੁ ॥ preet karahu sad ek siau eaa saachaa asanehu | Embrace love for the One Lord forever - this is true love! - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨੋ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਏਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥ kaaran karan karaavano sabh bidh ekai haath | He is the Doer, the Cause of causes. All ways and means are in His Hands alone. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਅਨਾਥ ॥੩੩॥ jit jit laavahu tith tit lageh naanak jant anaath |33| Whatever You attach me to, to that I am attached; O Nanak, I am just a helpless creature. ||33|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦਾਸਹ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥ daasah ek nihaariaa sabh kachh devanahaar | His slaves have gazed upon the One Lord, the Giver of everything. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੧॥ saas saas simarat raheh naanak daras adhaar |1| They continue to contemplate Him with each and every breath; O Nanak, the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is their Support. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦਦਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਕਉ ਦੇਵਨਹਾਰ ॥ dadaa daataa ek hai sabh kau devanahaar | DADDA: The One Lord is the Great Giver; He is the Giver to all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੇਂਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਅਗਨਤ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰ ॥ dende tott na aavee aganat bhare bhanddaar | There is no limit to His Giving. His countless warehouses are filled to overflowing. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੈਨਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨਹਾਰਾ ॥ dainahaar sad jeevanahaaraa | The Great Giver is alive forever. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਿਉ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਾਰਾ ॥ man moorakh kiau taeh bisaaraa | O foolish mind, why have you forgotten Him? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੋਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਮੀਤਾ ॥ dos nahee kaahoo kau meetaa | No one is at fault, my friend. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਬੰਧੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਤਾ ॥ maaeaa moh bandh prabh keetaa | God created the bondage of emotional attachment to Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਰਦ ਨਿਵਾਰਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਆਪੇ ॥ darad nivaareh jaa ke aape | He Himself removes the pains of the Gurmukh; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ॥੩੪॥ naanak te te guramukh dhraape |34| O Nanak, he is fulfilled. ||34|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਧਰ ਜੀਅਰੇ ਇਕ ਟੇਕ ਤੂ ਲਾਹਿ ਬਿਡਾਨੀ ਆਸ ॥ dhar jeeare ik ttek too laeh biddaanee aas | O my soul, grasp the Support of the One Lord; give up your hopes in others. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਕਾਰਜੁ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ naanak naam dhiaaeeai kaaraj aavai raas |1| O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, your affairs shall be resolved. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਧਧਾ ਧਾਵਤ ਤਉ ਮਿਟੈ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਾਸੁ ॥ dhadhaa dhaavat tau mittai santasang hoe baas | DHADHA: The mind’s wanderings cease, when one comes to dwell in the Society of the Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੁਰ ਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਉ ਹੋਇ ਮਨਹਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ dhur te kirapaa karahu aap tau hoe maneh paragaas | If the Lord is Merciful from the very beginning, then one’s mind is enlightened. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਤੇਊ ਸਚ ਸਾਹਾ ॥ dhan saachaa teaoo sach saahaa | Those who have the true wealth are the true bankers. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਸਾਹਾ ॥ har har poonjee naam bisaahaa | The Lord, Har, Har, is their wealth, and they trade in His Name. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧੀਰਜੁ ਜਸੁ ਸੋਭਾ ਤਿਹ ਬਨਿਆ ॥ dheeraj jas sobhaa tih baniaa | Patience, glory and honor come to those - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਜਿਹ ਸੁਨਿਆ ॥ har har naam sravan jih suniaa | who listen to the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਈ ॥ guramukh jih ghatt rahe samaaee | That Gurmukh whose heart remains merged with the Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਹ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੀ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੩੫॥ naanak tih jan milee vaddaaee |35| O Nanak, obtains glorious greatness. ||35|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੁ ਜਪਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ॥ naanak naam naam jap japiaa antar baahar rang | O Nanak, one who chants the Naam, and meditates on the Naam with love inwardly and outwardly, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿਆ ਨਰਕੁ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ॥੧॥ gur poorai upadesiaa narak naeh saadhasang |1| receives the Teachings from the Perfect Guru; he joins the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and does not fall into hell. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਨੰਨਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥ nanaa narak pareh te naahee | NANNA: Those whose minds and bodies are filled with the Naam, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬਸਾਹੀ ॥ jaa kai man tan naam basaahee | The Name of the Lord, shall not fall into hell. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋ ਜਪਤੇ ॥ naam nidhaan guramukh jo japate | Those Gurmukhs who chant the treasure of the Naam, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਨਾ ਓਇ ਖਪਤੇ ॥ bikh maaeaa meh naa oe khapate | are not destroyed by the poison of Maya. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨੰਨਾਕਾਰੁ ਨ ਹੋਤਾ ਤਾ ਕਹੁ ॥ nanaakaar na hotaa taa kahu | Those who have been given the Mantra of the Naam by the Guru, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਨੋ ਜਾ ਕਹੁ ॥ naam mantru gur deeno jaa kahu | Shall not be turned away. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
