ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ salok | Salok: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਨਿ ਮਿਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਚਲਨੋ ਲੋਗ ॥ gan min dekhahu manai maeh sarapar chalano log | See, that even by calculating and scheming in their minds, people must surely depart in the end. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਸ ਅਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਟੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਅਰੋਗ ॥੧॥ aas anit guramukh mittai naanak naam arog |1| Hopes and desires for transitory things are erased for the Gurmukh; O Nanak, the Name alone brings true health. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗਗਾ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹੁ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਪਿ ਨੀਤ ॥ gagaa gobid gun ravahu saas saas jap neet | GAGGA: Chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe with each and every breath; meditate on Him forever. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਦੇਹ ਕਾ ਬਿਲਮ ਨ ਕਰਿਹੋ ਮੀਤ ॥ kahaa bisaasaa deh kaa bilam na kariho meet | How can you rely on the body? Do not delay, my friend; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਨਹ ਜੋਬਨੈ ਨਹ ਬਿਰਧੀ ਕਛੁ ਬੰਧੁ ॥ neh baarik neh jobanai neh biradhee kachh bandh | there is nothing to stand in Death’s way - neither in childhood, nor in youth, nor in old age. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਓਹ ਬੇਰਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਜਉ ਆਇ ਪਰੈ ਜਮ ਫੰਧੁ ॥ oeh beraa neh boojheeai jau aae parai jam fandh | That time is not known, when the noose of Death shall come and fall on you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੇਖਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਹ ਠਾਇ ॥ giaanee dhiaanee chatur pekh rehan nahee ih tthaae | See, that even spiritual scholars, those who meditate, and those who are clever shall not stay in this place. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛਾਡਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਗਈ ਮੂੜ ਤਹਾ ਲਪਟਾਹਿ ॥ chhaadd chhaadd sagalee gee moorr tahaa lapattaeh | Only the fool clings to that, which everyone else has abandoned and left behind. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਜਾਹੂ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗ ॥ gur prasaad simarat rahai jaahoo masatak bhaag | By Guru’s Grace, one who has such good destiny written on his forehead remembers the Lord in meditation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਆਏ ਸਫਲ ਤੇ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅਹਿ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧੯॥ naanak aae safal te jaa kau prieh suhaag |19| O Nanak, blessed and fruitful is the coming of those who obtain the Beloved Lord as their Husband. ||19|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਘੋਖੇ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭ ਆਨ ਨ ਕਥਤਉ ਕੋਇ ॥ ghokhe saasatr bed sabh aan na kathtau koe | I have searched all the Shaastras and the Vedas, and they say nothing except this: - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦੀ ਹੁਣਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ aad jugaadee hun hovat naanak ekai soe |1| “In the beginning, throughout the ages, now and forevermore, O Nanak, the One Lord alone exists.” ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਘਘਾ ਘਾਲਹੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਏਹ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ghaghaa ghaalahu maneh eeh bin har doosar naeh | GHAGHA: Put this into your mind, that there is no one except the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਹੋਆ ਨਹ ਹੋਵਨਾ ਜਤ ਕਤ ਓਹੀ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥ neh hoaa neh hovanaa jat kat ohee samaeh | There never was, and there never shall be. He is pervading everywhere. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘੂਲਹਿ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਜਉ ਆਵਹਿ ਸਰਨਾ ॥ ghooleh tau man jau aaveh saranaa | You shall be absorbed into Him, O mind, if you come to His Sanctuary. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਤਤੁ ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਪੁਨਹਚਰਨਾ ॥ naam tat kal meh punahacharanaa | In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall be of any real use to you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘਾਲਿ ਘਾਲਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ॥ ghaal ghaal anik pachhutaaveh | So many work and slave continually, but they come to regret and repent in the end. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਹਾ ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥ bin har bhagat kahaa thit paaveh | Without devotional worship of the Lord, how can they find stability? - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਘੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਤਿਹ ਪੀਆ ॥ ghol mahaa ras amrit tih peea | They alone taste the supreme essence, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ॥੨੦॥ naanak har gur jaa kau deea |20| O Nanak, unto whom the Lord, the Guru, gives it. ||20|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਙਣਿ ਘਾਲੇ ਸਭ ਦਿਵਸ ਸਾਸ ਨਹ ਬਢਨ ਘਟਨ ਤਿਲੁ ਸਾਰ ॥ ngan ghaale sabh divas saas neh badtan ghattan til saar | He has counted all the days and the breaths, and placed them in people’s destiny; they do not increase or decrease one little bit. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੀਵਨ ਲੋਰਹਿ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਊ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੧॥ jeevan loreh bharam moh naanak teaoo gavaar |1| Those who long to live in doubt and emotional attachment, O Nanak, are total fools. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਙੰਙਾ ਙ੍ਰਾਸੈ ਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਹ ਜੋ ਸਾਕਤ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕੀਨ ॥ ngangaa ngraasai kaal tih jo saakat prabh keen | NGANGA: Death seizes those whom God has made into faithless cynics. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੀਨ ॥ anik jon janameh mareh aatam raam na cheen | They are born and they die, enduring countless incarnations; they do not realize the Lord, the Supreme Soul. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਙਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਤਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਆਏ ॥ ngiaan dhiaan taahoo kau aae | They alone find spiritual wisdom and meditation, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਹ ਆਪਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ॥ kar kirapaa jih aap divaae | whom the Lord blesses with His Mercy; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਙਣਤੀ ਙਣੀ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਊ ਛੂਟੈ ॥ nganatee nganee nahee koaoo chhoottai | no one is emancipated by counting and calculating. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਸਰਪਰ ਫੂਟੈ ॥ kaachee gaagar sarapar foottai | The vessel of clay shall surely break. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸੋ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਿਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਜਪਿਆ ॥ so jeevat jih jeevat japiaa | They alone live, who, while alive, meditate on the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਹ ਛਪਿਆ ॥੨੧॥ pragatt bhe naanak neh chhapiaa |21| They are respected, O Nanak, and do not remain hidden. ||21|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਚਿਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਚਰਣਾਰਬਿੰਦ ਊਧ ਕਵਲ ਬਿਗਸਾਂਤ ॥ chit chitvau charanaarabind aoodh kaval bigasaant | Focus your consciousness on His Lotus Feet, and the inverted lotus of your heart shall blossom forth. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਭਏ ਆਪਹਿ ਗੋੁਬਿੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਮਤਾਂਤ ॥੧॥ pragatt bhe aapeh guobind naanak sant mataant |1| The Lord of the Universe Himself becomes manifest, O Nanak, through the Teachings of the Saints. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਚਚਾ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ chachaa charan kamal gur laagaa | CHACHA: Blessed, blessed is that day, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਉਆ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਜੋਗ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥ dhan dhan uaa din sanjog sabhaagaa | when I became attached to the Lord’s Lotus Feet. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰਿ ਕੁੰਟ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ॥ chaar kuntt deh dis bhram aaeo | After wandering around in the four quarters and the ten directions, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਭਈ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤਬ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਓ ॥ bhee kripaa tab darasan paaeo | God showed His Mercy to me, and then I obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਾਰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਬਿਨਸਿਓ ਸਭ ਦੂਆ ॥ chaar bichaar binasio sabh dooaa | By pure lifestyle and meditation, all duality is removed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹੂਆ ॥ saadhasang man niramal hooaa | In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the mind becomes immaculate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਚਿੰਤ ਬਿਸਾਰੀ ਏਕ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੇਤਾ ॥ chint bisaaree ek drisattetaa | Anxieties are forgotten, and the One Lord alone is seen, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਿਹ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ॥੨੨॥ naanak giaan anjan jih netraa |22| O Nanak, by those whose eyes are anointed with the ointment of spiritual wisdom. ||22|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਛਾਤੀ ਸੀਤਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੁਖੀ ਛੰਤ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥ chhaatee seetal man sukhee chhant gobid gun gaae | The heart is cooled and soothed, and the mind is at peace, chanting and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਸਾਇ ॥੧॥ aisee kirapaa karahu prabh naanak daas dasaae |1| Show such Mercy, O God, that Nanak may become the slave of Your slaves. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੇ ਪਾਨੀਹਾਰੇ ॥ daas daasan ke paaneehaare | I am the water-carrier of the slave of Your slaves. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਛਛਾ ਛਾਰੁ ਹੋਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤਾ ॥ chhachhaa chhaar hot tere santaa | Chhachha: I long to become the dust under the feet of Your Saints. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
