ਸੁਣਿ ਨਾਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀਉ ਏਕਲੜੀ ਬਨ ਮਾਹੇ ॥ sun naah prabhoo jeeo ekalarree ban maahe | Hear me, O my Dear Husband God - I am all alone in the wilderness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਉ ਧੀਰੈਗੀ ਨਾਹ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥ kiau dheeraigee naah binaa prabh veparavaahe | How can I find comfort without You, O my Carefree Husband God? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਧਨ ਨਾਹ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਬਿਖਮ ਰੈਣਿ ਘਣੇਰੀਆ ॥ dhan naah baajhahu reh na saakai bikham rain ghanereea | The soul-bride cannot live without her Husband; the night is so painful for her. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਹ ਨੀਦ ਆਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥ neh need aavai prem bhaavai sun benantee mereea | Sleep does not come. I am in love with my Beloved. Please, listen to my prayer! - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਬਾਝਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸਾਰੇ ਏਕਲੜੀ ਕੁਰਲਾਏ ॥ baajhahu piaare koe na saare ekalarree kuralaae | Other than my Beloved, no one cares for me; I cry all alone in the wilderness. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੧॥ naanak saa dhan milai milaaee bin preetam dukh paae |1| O Nanak, the bride meets Him when He causes her to meet Him; without her Beloved, she suffers in pain. ||1|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਿਰਿ ਛੋਡਿਅੜੀ ਜੀਉ ਕਵਣੁ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥ pir chhoddiarree jeeo kavan milaavai | She is separated from her Husband Lord - who can unite her with Him? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਰਸਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਮਿਲੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥ ras prem milee jeeo sabad suhaavai | Tasting His Love, she meets Him, through the Beautiful Word of His Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਬਦੇ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਦੀਪਕ ਦੇਹ ਉਜਾਰੈ ॥ sabade suhaavai taa pat paavai deepak deh ujaarai | Adorned with the Shabad, she obtains her Husband, and her body is illuminated with the lamp of spiritual wisdom. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੈ ॥ sun sakhee sahelee saach suhelee saache ke gun saarai | Listen, O my friends and companions - she who is at peace dwells upon the True Lord and His True Praises. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਾ ਪਿਰਿ ਰਾਵੀ ਬਿਗਸੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ satigur melee taa pir raavee bigasee amrit baanee | Meeting the True Guru, she is ravished and enjoyed by her Husband Lord; she blossoms forth with the Ambrosial Word of His Bani. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਤਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਵੇ ਜਾ ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੀ ॥੨॥ naanak saa dhan taa pir raave jaa tis kai man bhaanee |2| O Nanak, the Husband Lord enjoys His bride when she is pleasing to His Mind. ||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਨੀਘਰੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਕੂੜਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਕੂੜਿਆਰੇ ॥ maaeaa mohanee neeghareea jeeo koorr mutthee koorriaare | Fascination with Maya made her homeless; the false are cheated by falsehood. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਕਿਉ ਖੂਲੈ ਗਲ ਜੇਵੜੀਆ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ kiau khoolai gal jevarreea jeeo bin gur at piaare | How can the noose around her neck be untied, without the Most Beloved Guru? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਾ ਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ har preet piaare sabad veechaare tis hee kaa so hovai | One who loves the Beloved Lord, and reflects upon the Shabad, belongs to Him. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਨਾਵਣ ਕਿਉ ਅੰਤਰ ਮਲੁ ਧੋਵੈ ॥ pun daan anek naavan kiau antar mal dhovai | How can giving donations to charities and countless cleansing baths wash off the filth within the heart? - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਗਤਿ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਹਠਿ ਨਿਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਬੇਬਾਣੈ ॥ naam binaa gat koe na paavai hatth nigreh bebaanai | Without the Naam, no one attains salvation. Stubborn self-discipline and living in the wilderness are of no use at all. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚ ਘਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਕਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥੩॥ naanak sach ghar sabad siyaapai dubidhaa mehal ki jaanai |3| O Nanak, the home of Truth is attained through the Shabad. How can the Mansion of His Presence be known through duality? ||3|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਜੀਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚਾ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥ teraa naam sachaa jeeo sabad sachaa veechaaro | True is Your Name, O Dear Lord; True is contemplation of Your Shabad. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤੇਰਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਸਚਾ ਜੀਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ ॥ teraa mehal sachaa jeeo naam sachaa vaapaaro | True is the Mansion of Your Presence, O Dear Lord, and True is trade in Your Name. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਅਨਦਿਨੋ ॥ naam kaa vaapaar meetthaa bhagat laahaa anadino | Trade in Your Name is very sweet; the devotees earn this profit night and day. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਾਝੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੋ ॥ tis baajh vakhar koe na soojhai naam levahu khin khino | Other than this, I can think of no other merchandise. So chant the Naam each and every moment. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਪਰਖਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਨਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ parakh lekhaa nadar saachee karam poorai paaeaa | The account is read; by the Grace of the True Lord and good karma, the Perfect Lord is obtained. - Guru Nanak Dev Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੨॥ naanak naam mahaa ras meetthaa gur poorai sach paaeaa |4|2| O Nanak, the Nectar of the Name is so sweet. Through the Perfect True Guru, it is obtained. ||4||2|| - Guru Nanak Dev Ji

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ॥ saa dhan binau kare jeeo har ke gun saare | The soul-bride offers her prayers to her Dear Lord; she dwells upon His Glorious Virtues. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥ khin pal reh na sakai jeeo bin har piaare | She cannot live without her Beloved Lord, for a moment, even for an instant. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ bin har piaare reh na saakai gur bin mehal na paaeeai | She cannot live without her Beloved Lord; without the Guru, the Mansion of His Presence is not found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਜੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਈਐ ॥ jo gur kahai soee par keejai tisanaa agan bujhaaeeai | Whatever the Guru says, she should surely do, to extinguish the fire of desire. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ har saachaa soee tis bin avar na koee bin seviai sukh na paae | The Lord is True; there is no one except Him. Without serving Him, peace is not found. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧॥ naanak saa dhan milai milaaee jis no aap milaae |1| O Nanak, that soul-bride, whom the Lord Himself unites, is united with Him; He Himself merges with her. ||1|| - Guru Amardas Ji
ਧਨ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੜੀਏ ਜੀਉ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ dhan rain suhelarree jeeo har siau chit laae | The life-night of the soul-bride is blessed and joyful, when she focuses her consciousness on her Dear Lord. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇ ਜੀਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ satigur seve bhaau kare jeeo vichahu aap gavaae | She serves the True Guru with love; she eradicates selfishness from within. - Guru Amardas Ji
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਭਾਓ ॥ vichahu aap gavaae har gun gaae anadin laagaa bhaao | Eradicating selfishness and conceit from within, and singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, she is in love with the Lord, night and day. - Guru Amardas Ji
