ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਏਕੈ ॥ karan karaavan sabh kichh ekai | The One Lord is the Creator of all things, the Cause of causes. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਆਪੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੈ ॥ aape budh beechaar bibekai | He Himself is wisdom, contemplation and discerning understanding. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦੂਰਿ ਨ ਨੇਰੈ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਾ ॥ door na nerai sabh kai sangaa | He is not far away; He is near at hand, with all. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਾ ॥੮॥੧॥ sach saalaahan naanak har rangaa |8|1| So praise the True One, O Nanak, with love! ||8||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ gur sevaa te naame laagaa | Serving the Guru, one is committed to the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥ tis kau miliaa jis masatak bhaagaa | It is received only by those who have such good destiny inscribed upon their foreheads. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥ tis kai hiradai raviaa soe | The Lord dwells within their hearts. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ man tan seetal nihachal hoe |1| Their minds and bodies become peaceful and stable. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥ aisaa keeratan kar man mere | O my mind, sing such Praises of the Lord, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਜੋ ਕਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ eehaa aoohaa jo kaam terai |1| rahaau | which shall be of use to you here and hereafter. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਭਉ ਅਪਦਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ jaas japat bhau apadaa jaae | Meditating on Him, fear and misfortune depart, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਧਾਵਤ ਮਨੂਆ ਆਵੈ ਠਾਇ ॥ dhaavat manooaa aavai tthaae | and the wandering mind is held steady. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੂਖੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ jaas japat fir dookh na laagai | Meditating on Him, suffering shall never again overtake you. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੨॥ jaas japat ih haumai bhaagai |2| Meditating on Him, this ego runs away. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਵਸਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਪੰਚਾ ॥ jaas japat vas aaveh panchaa | Meditating on Him, the five passions are overcome. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੰਚਾ ॥ jaas japat ridai amrit sanchaa | Meditating on Him, Ambrosial Nectar is collected in the heart. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬੁਝੈ ॥ jaas japat ih trisanaa bujhai | Meditating on Him, this desire is quenched. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਸਿਝੈ ॥੩॥ jaas japat har daragah sijhai |3| Meditating on Him, one is approved in the Court of the Lord. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਅਪਰਾਧ ॥ jaas japat kott mitteh aparaadh | Meditating on Him, millions of mistakes are erased. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਸਾਧ ॥ jaas japat har hoveh saadh | Meditating on Him, one becomes Holy, blessed by the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ jaas japat man seetal hovai | Meditating on Him, the mind is cooled and soothed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮਲੁ ਸਗਲੀ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੪॥ jaas japat mal sagalee khovai |4| Meditating on Him, all filth is washed away. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਰਤਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ॥ jaas japat ratan har milai | Meditating on Him, the jewel of the Lord is obtained. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਛੋਡੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਿਲੈ ॥ bahur na chhoddai har sang hilai | One is reconciled with the Lord, and shall not abandon Him again. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਈ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਵਾਸੁ ॥ jaas japat kee baikuntth vaas | Meditating on Him, many acquire a home in the heavens. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੫॥ jaas japat sukh sehaj nivaas |5| Meditating on Him, one abides in intuitive peace. ||5|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਅਗਨਿ ਨ ਪੋਹਤ ॥ jaas japat ih agan na pohat | Meditating on Him, one is not affected by this fire. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਜੋਹਤ ॥ jaas japat ihu kaal na johat | Meditating on Him, one is not under the gaze of Death. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਮਾਥਾ ॥ jaas japat teraa niramal maathaa | Meditating on Him, your forehead shall be immaculate. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸਗਲਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਾਥਾ ॥੬॥ jaas japat sagalaa dukh laathaa |6| Meditating on Him, all pains are destroyed. ||6|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਮੁਸਕਲੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਨੈ ॥ jaas japat musakal kachhoo na banai | Meditating on Him, no difficulties are encountered. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਸੁਣਿ ਅਨਹਤ ਧੁਨੈ ॥ jaas japat sun anahat dhunai | Meditating on Him, one hears the unstruck melody. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਇਹ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਇ ॥ jaas japat ih niramal soe | Meditating on Him, one acquires this pure reputation. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਮਲੁ ਸੀਧਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੭॥ jaas japat kamal seedhaa hoe |7| Meditating on Him, the heart-lotus is turned upright. ||7|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਗੁਰਿ ਸੁਭ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਕਰੀ ॥ gur subh drisatt sabh aoopar karee | The Guru has bestowed His Glance of Grace upon all, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੇ ਹਰੀ ॥ jis kai hiradai mantru de haree | within whose hearts the Lord has implanted His Mantra. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਅਖੰਡ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਚੂਰਾ ॥ akhandd keeratan tin bhojan chooraa | The unbroken Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises is their food and nourishment. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੮॥੨॥ kahu naanak jis satigur pooraa |8|2| Says Nanak, they have the Perfect True Guru. ||8||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ gur kaa sabad rid antar dhaarai | Those who implant the Word of the Guru’s Shabad within their hearts - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਪੰਚ ਜਨਾ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੈ ॥ panch janaa siau sang nivaarai | cut their connections with the five passions. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਵਾਸਿ ॥ das indree kar raakhai vaas | They keep the ten organs under their control; - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਆਤਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ taa kai aatamai hoe paragaas |1| their souls are enlightened. ||1|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਐਸੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹੋਇ ॥ aisee drirrataa taa kai hoe | They alone acquire such stability, - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਦਇਆ ਮਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ jaa kau deaa meaa prabh soe |1| rahaau | whom God blesses with His Mercy and Grace. ||1||Pause|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਾਜਨੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਏਕ ਸਮਾਨੈ ॥ saajan dusatt jaa kai ek samaanai | Friend and foe are one and the same to them. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇਤਾ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਗਿਆਨੈ ॥ jetaa bolan tetaa giaanai | Whatever they speak is wisdom. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇਤਾ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਤੇਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ jetaa sunanaa tetaa naam | Whatever they hear is the Naam, the Name of the Lord. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਜੇਤਾ ਪੇਖਨੁ ਤੇਤਾ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੨॥ jetaa pekhan tetaa dhiaan |2| Whatever they see is meditation. ||2|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਜਾਗਣੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਸੋਇ ॥ sahaje jaagan sahaje soe | They awaken in peace and poise; they sleep in peace and poise. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਤਾ ਜਾਇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ sahaje hotaa jaae su hoe | That which is meant to be, automatically happens. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਸਨਾ ॥ sehaj bairaag sahaje hee hasanaa | In peace and poise, they remain detached; in peace and poise, they laugh. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਚੂਪ ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੩॥ sahaje choop sahaje hee japanaa |3| In peace and poise, they remain silent; in peace and poise, they chant. ||3|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਾਉ ॥ sahaje bhojan sahaje bhaau | In peace and poise they eat; in peace and poise they love. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਰਾਉ ॥ sahaje mittio sagal duraau | The illusion of duality is easily and totally removed. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗੁ ॥ sahaje hoaa saadhoo sang | They naturally join the Saadh Sangat, the Society of the Holy. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥੪॥ sehaj milio paarabraham nisang |4| In peace and poise, they meet and merge with the Supreme Lord God. ||4|| - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
ਸਹਜੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥ sahaje grih meh sehaj udaasee | They are at peace in their homes, and they are at peace while detached. - Guru Arjan Dev Ji
